A friendly hotel with wonderful reception staff

Reviewed Jan 14, 2023
After misplacing my passport I stayed at the Trade Winds Hotel for 8 days. I cannot praise the recption staff highly enough, as a pensioner with only basic IT skills they cheerfully helped organise a replacement for me. My room was spotless and comfortable, and the grounds beautifully maintained. A lovely restaurant overlooking Dickenson Bay, with well presented food. Despite my stressful personal circumstances the staff went out of their way to ensure I was comfortable at all times. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to travellers on a mid range budget

Travelled here on business, requested a change of room for better access for mobility and medical reasons. Daveniel could not have been more helpful. She was courteous, polite and accommodating. Upon my return later that evening, she had sorted me out a room which fit all my requests and even asked the following morning if the room was all ok for me. Kind, caring and an asset to the hotel, she is very attentive to her guests requests and needs :)

A fabulous welcome from all the staff, friendly & helpful. Rooms spacious with balcony looking out to wonderful views. Restaurant was relaxing and food tasty. There was a pool as well. Would recommend this hotel as nice & breezy. The staff went out of their way as it was my granddaughters 18 th birthday so really grateful to them all 🥰

Room tip: The hotel is positioned on a hill but the hotel did provide a shuttle bus to a wonderful beach

This hotel is situated on a hilltop 15 mins walk above the beach and so has great views, particularly at sunset.
I have been coming here for over 25 years with work and it has failed to keep up with standards. The plumbing in the rooms is pretty poor, with the showers being almost unusable - either a pathetic drip reminiscent of an old man with prostate problems, or if there is sufficient water, then the temperature hard or impossible to get to a bearable range.
The staff are a little on the abrupt side at times, although in this part of the world, that seems to be the norm.
Food in the restaurant is not too bad, but service can be very slow. I have fallen asleep at the table before waiting for food.
If a hotel in Antigua cannot offer a beach, then everything else needs to be at the top of its game. Unfortunately not the case here.

Room tip: Higher elevation rooms seem to suffer from low water pressure. The lower the room number, the better the pressure in my experience.
