Nestled near the airport with stunning beachfront views, Royalton Antigua garners appreciation for its prime location, despite some feelings of isolation. The rooms, often described as spacious and offering beautiful vistas, have received mixed reviews regarding service and upkeep. While many guests commend the resort's cleanliness and range of amenities, including the much-discussed Diamond Club, others point out service inconsistencies. The hotel's atmosphere strikes a balance between excitement and serenity, although for some, the ambiance is occasionally marred by loud music and noise disturbances. Service quality varies, with commendations for staff friendliness but also critiques of inefficiency.

We had a wonderful vacation at the Royalton. There was 13 of us. I read so many bad review's I was a little apprehensive about staying there. I have to say our experience was great. The resort was beautiful. We ate at all the restaurant and we enjoyed the meals at each one. Since there was 13 of us it was a little difficult because they didn't take reservations for the restaurants. So one of the ladies in our group would go and talk to the restaurant the day before telling them how many people we had and that we didn't have to sit together as long as we could eat at the same time and they went out of their way to sit at at the same time. There was always a nice selection of food at the buffet and we had excellent service at all places. I do have to say if they corrected anything it would be nice if you could make reservations in the restaurants. At the pool If you wanted to exercise they always had an exercise program everyday and different activities at the pool. They always had Lively music and always had fun things to do even if you didn't want to participate it was fun watching. Everybody made it a lot of fun and everybody was very very nice there. I have to give a shout out to Ruth who was our housekeeper she always had the room clean with plenty of towels and washcloths and we had a chance to talk to her and she was very sweet. Another nice thing they had they put a wristband on your arm and that opened your door every day you didn't have to worry about having a card or a key to get in your room. I'm going to keep everything positive. There are always things that can be made better at a new resort and they know what they are but I have to say just from my experience it was a very nice.

This is a new hotel rated 5* with all of the facilities expected at a top hotel. We upgraded to Diamond Club with a swim up. The room and all of the public areas are immaculate, tastefully decorated to a high standard offering every comfort both within the hotel and at the beach. The Diamond club facility provides a personal butler, room service, priority booking at the 4 restaurants, access to the diamond club lounge, upgraded International drinks and trips, taxis etc arranged. The swim up was out of the sun and the main walkway to the beach just metres away so it lacked privacy and could be noisy. The landscaping hasn't had time to mature, so there may be some screening in time. The staff are eager to please, very friendly and attentive. The beach buffet, beach grill and sports bar provide fast food, all cooked to order and hot. The main buffet, has a different theme each evening with plenty of choice. However the plates are cold and food luke warm at best, if not taken from the show cooking stations. The Hunters Grill requires a reservation, steaks, salmon fillet etc cooked to order and food very good. However some of the other guests were so noisy, that on one occasion we actually left our meal. We spoke to other couples who also felt intimidated by the behaviour of other diners. There is no dress code at any of the restaurants, so shorts, flip flops, T shirts and thing goes. We feel that this hotel is probobly more suited to younger people and families. The atmosphere is totally relaxed, there is a teen area, children's club, most of the dining options would appeal to young people. This is not the place for guests who like to dress for dinner and enjoy fine dining in a quiet, relaxing atmosphere.

The Royalton Antigua Resort And Spa is a reasonable hotel, the grounds are very spaced out which means a lot of walking is involved from bedrooms to restaurant or the beach which we didn't mind as good exercise.
Our room was ok with good air conditioning throughout the night and has a walk-in wet room with two overhead showers and a hand shower. A good size TV which also has all the hotel information on it as well. Two double beds meant we could spread out and both have a good night’s sleep. Our balcony looked out on a tree embankment , we didn’t spend time out there because of the bad kitchen smells wafting up all the time.
The hotel staff were very friendly which made it feel like a relaxing place to be. There is a central coffee shop to get all sorts of beverages plus ice cream on-tap.
A reasonable beach area with sun beds available for residents including swimming pools and a Jacuzzi plus daily towels available.
The food in the restaurants was ok but basic and could have done with more choice.
There are a couple of hotel shops with basic items but if you needed more you have to get a taxi to St Johns (no hotel shuttle bus).
So overall we found it relaxing to sit around and read when not going out on trips but we think it should be a 4 star rating rather than 5 stars.

Traveled with a large corporate group end of January beginning of Feb. so lets start with the good!
The beach was amazing, sparkling clear water with shades of blue, calm with fantastic views.
Entertainment staff worked hard to keep everyone moving, big shout out to Mario he was just a sweetheart.
Sevice: there were some great people that really cared about their job and you can tell they enjoy dealing with people. Edgar i think he was the manager of the service staff, always had a smile on his face and worked endless hours.
once we met our butlers Tony and Kanna they were great, checked in everyday and helped with the anything we needed.

the bad: It is truly unfortunate that this resort seems to of skipped some corners in the rebuild. I understand that this was and older hotel that was gutted and rebuild, but there were issue with the water, leaking showers, unsecured toilets, broken tiles in main areas without hazard signs blocking it off. Water in the rooms worked some days other days nope..some days the water was brown and did not change even after running it.
The Diamond Club upgrade is NOT worth a penny so do not spend your money on it. most of the bars did not have any upgraded alcohol and the diamond lounge seemed to be on the timing of when the staff wanted to work. it stated it was open till 11pm but we were kicked out at 10:40 one night and then told the bar closed at 10 another...
the absolutely disgusting!! with the water issues most of the public bathrooms did not work, they were backed up and people were pooping in the guys urinals the bathrooms were not maintained and I felt they were unsanitary. pee stains on the floor for days sinks barely hanging on the wall, toilet seats that were stained, this truly made me sick, even our own room the floors were not swept nor the carpet vacuumed. I had a dead bug on my floor for 5 days in the same spot. (i actually went home sick and it would not surprise me if it was from the lack of cleanliness within the resort)
Food: was just okay nothing special the hunter steak house was good IF you received your steak at the right temp.
Caribbean restaurant was okay very small portions and were other resort provide you lobster for free they charge 45 - 45 USD even for diamond club members so again not sure what the diamond club gives you
Italian was okay, pizza was very good,
Buffett had a lot of choices and probably your best bet for eating!

I spent 9 nights in this hotel and I found it to be poor

Firstly the positives. The beach is beautiful, the rooms are big and quiet, some of the staff are genuinely lovely and provide good service.

Now the negatives....

The food is plentiful and varied but bland, luke warm and inconsistent. I had dinner in the Caribbean restaurant and the food had been pre cooked and was heated up / luke warm. I asked for it to be heated up and the waiter came back with it. It was luke warm and when I sent it back for the second time he was aggressive towards me and told me he had seen the chef heat it up himself. He basically told me I was wrong! 5 star service? I don't think so.

The steak restaurant was fantastic one night. Fast service and a hot, delicious steak and chips. The second time I tried it the service was slow and the food was cold/ had been left on the pass for far too long.

The buffet was varied but the food was luke warm. The bacon was nice (I ate loads of it!) and the lady who did the smoothies (Joy) was lovely and friendly. The food over all was tasteless including the desserts.

There was an extreme smell of damp in the first room I stayed in (Room 11501) and when I complained about it I was told it would be looked into and to come back tomorrow. To be fair to the hotel when I told them it would affect my health if I stayed in the room any longer they moved me to a room which did not smell of damp.

My main problem with the hotel was the loud music everywhere!! At meal times sometimes the music was so loud I couldn't hear my family speak. You would ask for it to be turned down 4-5 times and it would eventually happen. Loud house music was played by the pool most of the day which you could hear on the beach even when you had headphones on. I complained about it and sometimes it was turned down for 5 minutes only to be turned up again. It was most unrelaxing. The foam parties were not my thing at all. It was more of a frat party vibe than a five star hotel. The entertainment was ear piercingly loud in the bar at night. The problem was they had one speaker for a large space and it was just unpleasant.

I made the best of it and had a lovely time with my family but I can't recommend this hotel and will never stay at a Royalton hotel again. I's a shame as the island is beautiful but the standard of hotels is not up to the hotels in Europe for the high price you pay to visit from the UK and this Royalton is more three star than five star in my opinion.

We visited this hotel just before the Convid 19 pandemic broke out. After being told the hotel would be running like normal as there were no cases on the island.
Upon arrival 1 the restaurants were told to close early. This was only the start by the end of our 9night stay we had a limited menu and 1 restaurant open. On the day they would chose which restaurant it would be and would notify us. Leaving guests guessing. We were unable to get basic foods such as apples, bananas, cucumbers, toast and many more as they said they couldn’t get the food. All markets in the town were full of fresh produce.
The children’s pool was switched off and sun beds and umbrellas packed away with 4 days still left to stay. My child could there then not use this facility. On this day many of the staff were told not to return to work this then left the beach bar being surrounded by staff enjoying the alcohol and not serving paying guests. The next day the main pool filters then were also off. Making it unsafe for any pools to be used.
Staff were packing up the hotel around us not even leaving sun beds or umbrellas for any guests. Managers and staff would laugh about this hiding round corners I find that behaviour disgraceful. Not once did any member of management apologise or inform us of the facilities closing.
Not only this our room was broken into whist out for dinner and we were moved to another room which front door which could be pushed open from the outside. Maintenance was meant to arrive and fix but at 4pm still no sign of it being fixed.
Our room was missed 3 times off being cleaned and again trying to find staff to notify as they did not make there selfs present.
Would not recommend this hotel to anyone the staffs behaviour was disgraceful. Completely disappointed and disgusted by the way these issues were handle and the management in the hotel couldn’t not even apologise for the staff or their behaviour.
Would not recommend this hotel to anyone, yes the beach and pool area is beautiful, but guests should feel welcome not uncomfortable like they are being pushed out of the door.

Four couples traveled to Antigua and stayed at the Royalton from January 22 to 29. We were told it is a 5 star hotel. It's not. Upon arrival, there was no welcome drink, nor much of a welcome. We each had a different check-in person and each got different information. Our rooms and the grounds were very nice. We were told we had a $300 credit per room that could be used for dining, spas, etc. That was actually a coupon book where we would receive a small discount for services at the spa, renting a cabana, or eating at the "Experience" restaurant. Of the four couples, we received different coupons books and one received two books. They were pretty much worthless as far as I was concerned because I wasn't going to buy a bottle of wine at an all-inclusive or spend $150 for a massage. The pool bar was out of beer for at least one day. At other times there was no coconut cream, no chocolate, no dark rum. The pool was leaking so for a day and half it was only 3 feet deep with no water circulation. There were floor tiles missing from pool near the swim-up bar. We waiting over an hour for our food at the beach bar as we watched them take plate after plate over to the Diamond Club area. We were told that people were served in the order they came in, but we watched Diamond Club people come in after us and sit down, eat and leave before we ever saw our food. I could go on, but you get the idea.

Also, there was a note that said we should not book excursions with anyone outside of the hotel, specifically on the beach. The Island Tour offered by Sun Tours inside the hotel was $130/person. Eddie was the "guy on the beach" who offered tours with his family's taxi company. The Island Tour was $85 and we could add whatever stops we wanted. We took that tour and it was excellent. He also gave us a better rate for the ride to the Shirley Heights BBQ. Eddie was extremely diligent at making sure we knew all of the detail and that we were happy with the trips. At Shirley Heights he made sure to let us know that his taxi was leaving and made arrangements for ours to leave at the time we requested. We highly recommend using Eddie for your next tour.

Just returned from Royalton Antigua. Staying here was highly disappointing. From all the beautiful pictures and a Facebook group posts I was excited, but reality is that the pictures and posts are deceiving. Our room was the “mountain view” which is really just a hill overgrown with trees, what you see is the service area, garbage trucks, a green sheet metal monster running the length of the hotel and it’s loud with workers coming and going and everything that entails the running of the place. In the early evening they fog the place for bugs which sends you into the room, where the the fog gets sucked into the outdoor air handler and into your room. No hiding from the fog machine lol. The Mountain View rooms face west, from 1-3 it’s scorching hot on your balcony, ice in your drink melts quicker then you can drink 🍹
I will give a A+ for the quickest room service and the best way to order (from your TV)
Food is a bland mix of cafe style meals. This is a huge F I can go anywhere in my home country for the food they serve and it tastes a lot better, they don’t serve up any local culture foods but your told about them in the pamphlet they give you. Highly disappointed. We had under cooked food at times during the week we were there. Good luck getting salt out of the shakers, they definitely need to invest in salt grinders instead of shaker style.
Our room was not updated and lacked counter tops, it was dirty, the shower had cracked and broken tiles, the door leaked so water gushed out onto the floor. We happened to come back one day just after they cleaned the room, the floor was just mopped so I had to use a towel to make it less slippery to walk, the white towel was black afterwards, it was disgusting.
The spa is great, highly recommend getting a massage, it was the best I have ever had, or at least the first one was, the second visit (different lady) was just average.
The grounds were well kept by not amazing landscaping.
The pool area was small and crowded, the cabanas had potential but there was no water in one cabana area, 2 cabanas share a common “hot tub” style pool, and so if the group next to you parties to the puking point your day is done also ( yes this happened while we were there) the beach is ok but I have seen better, again the pictures are deceiving which is very disappointing. A lot of people talk about the small things that are going wrong, yes they happened and you deal with it but know that this place has definitely opened without being even 1/2 ready. The workers are doing the best they can with what they have to work with, they are very friendly and always greeting you with a smile.

This was our first holiday abroad since we’ve had our little boy, he’s 9 months old so we’re moving into the family holiday phase of our lives.

On arrival the staff were polite and helpful and as we’d got diamond club we were transported to the diamond club check in which overlooks the lake in front of the hotel. A very pleasant experience indeed, we were offered a drink and snacks and I was very impressed.

We were introduced to one of our butlers Jessica who took us up to our room (our cases were delivered a little later) and first impressions were good, the view towards the lake then beyond to sea was nice, looking to the left we could see the bay/beach further away and while it’s not as close as you’d like it’s all a very nice outlook. We were on the top (9th) floor so lower down might not be quite as good.

During our stay we ate at the buffet restaurant, hunter steakhouse as well as the Italian and Caribbean themed restaurants down by the beach. In all cases staff were friendly and helpful, the food generally is good, but often it was more lukewarm rather than piping hot. An area for improvement for sure.

On the 2nd day we met our other butler Natalia, she was like Jessica brilliant and especially took to our 9 month old which was super cute. Later in our stay she looked after him for an hour allowing us to visit the spa briefly which was a fantastic unexpected bonus for us on a family holiday.

The room wasn’t always as clean as we’d like, I think this is another area for improvement, the shower leaked and the toilet roll holder was hanging off. A bit of maintenance needed. I suspect the refit of the hotel may have cut a few corners and so a round of repairs and things will be much better. That said, housekeeping kept us stocked with towels and the fridge was always re-stocked with drinks, sometimes snacks (not always) and a few beers. We also enjoyed a complimentary bottle of Gordon’s gin which went down well in the evenings looking out to sea as cruise ships sometimes passed.

The beach and bay are lovely, the bar staff sometimes seemed a little unhappy when you asked for a drink but others were very happy all the time. We tried the Caribbean restaurant at lunch time a couple of times, service was slow and the food was really not very hot, in fact almost cold sometimes. So that’s one to miss so far as we’re concerned.

Overall the resort is lovely, with some room for improvement which shouldn’t be too difficult to achieve. The location is perfect and the facilities are great. The staff almost all of them are friendly and helpful and especially Jessica and Natalia our butlers were brilliant. I’d recommend this as a 4 star hotel rather than the 5 star hotel it’s advertised as, but the groundwork is there for it to step up. Thank you for a very pleasant stay for our family.

We have just returned from 2 weeks at this hotel. The promotional video lead us to believe that this was a modern sophisticated hotel with a good standard of room and facilities.

The rooms were of a good standard and there are many facilities available, but sadly the poor service and noisy corporate atmosphere dampened our enthusiasm.

On arrival, no welcome drink, over an hour for our cases to be delivered to our room and the bombardment by the concierge of sales , trips and the “diamond” club.

Booking a table in any of the restaurants is ‘not allowed’ unless you have paid your subscription the the “diamond” club , those that did, felt totally duped. Sadly the food in all of the restaurants was of a mediocre quality and meals were often served cold. The self service buffet was of a higher standard and wonderful choice of food.

The main criticism and actually ruined our holiday was the incessant noise on the beach around the pool area. The “Vibe” team spent the whole day advertising on loud speakers their naff events including bingo, karaoke, pop quizzes, aqua fitness and the dreaded childish foam parties for adults. This was interspersed with the constant booming of so called music delivered by their in house DJ! There is no peace anywhere on the beach or in the gardens where you can relax and read a book or enjoy a quiet swim in the sea or pool. We complained to the management on numerous occasions but they were ineffective. We hired a car for a week in order to escape to quieter beaches as a move to another hotel proved to be far too expensive at half term.

The resort has been developed around an 80’s tower block, this has been upgraded and the foyer and the main public areas are attractive but the long corridors to rooms are soulless , completely devoid of any artwork to soften the appearance. The nine storey tower is clad with insulated panels (hopefully not the Grenfell type) that were starting to look tatty at the joints. We often found our lighting was on at all times despite the fact that we turned everything off as we left.

We would rate this as a corporate party hotel, catering for the masses. If you enjoy the competition to reserve a bed every day ,and if successful, to lie like sardines in very noisy surroundings, this is the hotel for you.

You have to provide a credit/debit card to secure a deposit, they tell you that the funds will not be withdrawn and held. However, when I returned home 200 USD had been withdrawn the 2nd day of my stay, and it took me 3 weeks to get it refunded, at a loss, Wish I had checked before I checked out. I would avoid this hotel, their customer service and aftercare is non-existent.

It happened to us!! Despite being DC and splurging on a Junior Suite Bay View, my jacket was still taken from the wardrobe!! Follow up has been been existent. Would recommend you lock away anything you would like to see again!! I only reported my jacket missing - but items of make up were also missing from the bathroom! Only people with access to our room could have taken my items. Housekeeping Our butlers Fridge top up Difficult to prove without evidence hence that's why these things are happening Good luck, hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones
