There are times that I’d like to write a review that “trashes” a place not because of a bad experience but to hide a gem. But then I realize that’s being selfish. So, here’s my review of Villa Renaissance. The facility is very old and run down, no one goes there anymore. (The truth) Yes the resort is older than some of the others surrounding it but management is super attentive and keeps everything in proper working order. The condos are dirty, noisy, and very uncomfortable. (The truth) Ok, it’s the exact opposite. The house keeping staff keeps everything clean and fresh. They are also magical. We were always surprised when we returned to our unit to find everything cleaned and re-organized just like when we arrived the first day. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the only noise at night was my snoring. The Happy Hour drinks are watered-down messes. (The truth) Wow, tasty and potent, better take it easy. The pool was crowded and the water cold. (The truth) The resort was completely booked. We never had a problem securing a lounge chair and umbrella. I don’t think there was more that 8-10 people in the large pool at any one time. And, the water was just like my wife likes it - in the 80’s. The beach area was crowded and lounges were unavailable. (The truth) Once again, we never had an issue getting lounges and umbrellas when we wanted to stay on the beach. Of course Grace Bay Beach is huge and never crowded. You do have to walk a tiring 70 feet to get to the beach from the resort though. The staff is rude and unfriendly. (The truth) We didn’t meet anyone that wasn’t pleasant and helpful. In fact, one of the staff a gentleman named Taylor, became our own island advisor. Whenever we met, he asked what were doing that day and gave us lots of very helpful information. We could tell that was Taylor’s true and friendly nature. The resort is located in a remote section of the island making it difficult getting to many of the island’s restaurants. (The truth) It’s actually in the heart of Grace Bay and you can walk to several fine restaurants. We had a unit that only looked out on a little garden area. (The truth) Actually, this one is true. I’ve got to tell you, even though we didn’t have a view of the ocean, I loved my setting. OK, now you know what to tell other people and you now the truth about Villa Renaissance, so shhhhh.
