Montage Palmetto Bluff garners praise for its striking grounds and opulent rooms, offering a variety of activities that captivate travelers. Nestled in a picturesque location that guests frequently laud, the hotel delivers a blend of Southern charm and contemporary amenities. While the spacious and well-kept accommodations are generally celebrated, some visitors suggest that certain aspects could benefit from refreshing. Although the hotel's rates and extra charges are sometimes seen as steep, impacting its value proposition, the overall sentiment towards the service and atmosphere is positive, despite occasional service hiccups and the need for sporadic touch-ups.

Hotel's Favourite
We loved it so much we came back two summers in a row! First, I should say that we live in coastal southern California, so we are lucky to have natural beauty on a daily basis, but there is something about the tranquility in this locale that draws us in. Montage is unbeatable. The rooms are beautifully decorated and have every possible thoughtful detail and convenience, and we especially love the larger bathroom size. All dining options are outstanding, and housekeeping is impeccable (and I am very hard to please on that one.) The pool area is beautiful and has a great vibe, and our favorite on-property is electric bikes for miles and miles of safe and beautiful trails in and out of the residential area and golf course. I always think it's weird when people comment on employees at a hotel because it seems pretentious, but I would be remiss not to mention Richard (valet), Zulfira (front desk), and Firoze (rooms) who are all three so devoted and passionate about the property, it's contagious! They do not miss an opportunity to make guests feel welcome and spoiled. MPB is so close to Savannah Airport, and a super easy drive up to Charleston for a day or two on either end of your trip. If you are on the fence about trying this property, DO IT - you will not be disappointed.

Palmetto Bluff is a private community (be sure to read the history before you arrive) and pretty much the Montage owns all of it except for the single family homes (they own the lots).

Upon entry, you drive past RT's market, the cutest little market for all your needs especially if you are renting a private home like we did. Very nice selection of wine, beer, snacks and even fresh tuna, filets and shrimp cocktail if you choose to cook. This is also where the tennis courts are located.

If you are staying at the hotel about half mile away, here is where you can find guest rooms in the main building but highly recommend a private cottage, most with water views. Very adorable.

The main building features their main restaurant and bar, Octagon (very good and with both indoor and outdoor seating), spa, and shops. If you are staying in a private home, I recommend buying a gift card so you can use it anywhere as all the restaurants and services are owned by Montage.

The main town square is where the fun is including complimentary nightly s'mores from 7-10PM. They have three giant fire pits, one with chairs to hang out and enjoy. The square is also home to one of the best restaurants, Buffalo's, and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (weekends features live music outdoors).

Other restaurants include Canoe Club (overrated, dark and disappointing) and Cole's (barbecue joint that is very busy (make reservations in advance at all restaurants) and has very good food.

If you are a golfer, you will enjoy the historic golf club and course.

On the lake there are sunset cruises from 5:30-7:00PM (check times) and we loved it. Complimentary beer and wine and great views of Bluffton and of course, the sun setting.

Perhaps the best part of Palmetto Bluff is not needing your car and bike riding everywhere. So much fun. We even had a golf cart which was really nice going to Cole's which is about 3 miles from the lodge.

Actually the best part is the adult lap pool and fitness center. Beautiful 3 lane pool, plenty of chairs and towels and a decent fitness center with one Peloton bike. There is also a family pool center which is fabulous if you have kids along with another fitness center and grill open for lunch.

Overall, the Montage has done a great job taking over Palmetto Bluff and making it one of the best destinations for relaxation in the USA.

I loved almost everything about the Montage Palmetto Bluff! We stayed in October 2020 for our one year anniversary and we felt super safe the entire time. We took advantage of the bikes, shooting clays, spa, and golf. All were great especially the shooting clays. It was just us shooting so it felt very special and private especially for a beginner like myself. Not sure if it’s always like that but it was so fun. The golf was in my husbands opinion not worth that price but he has been able to play many amazing courses prior to our visit. The spa I’m sure is top notch but it was very restricted at the time of our visit but I still enjoyed! We stayed in the main hotel overlooking the adult pool and while we chose probably the least expensive room available it was plenty big and had the same southern feel of the hotel. We spent time at the adult pool and service was fantastic! The nature at this place is worth looking for. We saw a bald eagle and many dolphins while exploring the property. We also took a sunset cruise on the grace. The staff was extremely knowledgeable of any topic and made the cruise relaxing and fun! My only complaint and reason for 4 stars is the food. We tried every restaurant but canoe club and every single meal was very expensive and so disappointing. I wish we would have gone off site to eat but because of Covid we selected this resort because we wouldn’t have to. I would go back in a heartbeat but I wouldn’t eat there.

My wife and I stayed at this property for our Honeymoon and from the moment we arrived service was excellent. We were greeted by Joshua and Anthony, who were both very welcoming and assisted with our arrival. Joshua took us inside, provided a quick and easy check-in then proceeded to give us a brief tour of the main building. Anthony arrived with luggage just as we walked into our beautiful room overlooking the water and we continued to see him throughout the week, always had a smile! We were able to experience a large majority of the restaurants and bars on site at the Montage and found that each night the food got better and better. Overall our experiences dining were fantastic. Silke our waitress at Coles was amazing and really went above and beyond to create a welcoming (and entertaining) atmosphere. We enjoyed drinks at the bar and Victor does a great cocktail. Breakfast in the mornings at Octagon was excellent with great service from Andrei and Fred. Our interactions with others on property such as Sam, Rory, Heather and Lily were all excellent and each went above and beyond to assist in whatever capacity required. Overall I would highly recommend this property to others and we will definitely be visiting again soon. Thank you all for a great week.

The experience at Montage Palmetto Bluff is unlike anything we have ever experienced. From the time you cross the front gate to the time you leave you feel relaxed. The amenities are top notch and the customer service was even better. We stayed in one of the cottages and it was wonderful. The friendliest staff I have ever come across and they took the time to greet us at every crossing and even learned our names. Complimentary bikes to get around the resort were a great touch and the staff is always willing to pick you up via golf cart/shuttle to take you around too.
Everyone on staff was extremely friendly but the ones that stuck out the most to my wife and myself were: Caroline (concierge) she was so nice and helpful in planning our trip and setting us up with dinner reservations/spa/golf. Josh (golf cart transportation) was also very nice and extremely knowledgeable about the history of the property. Highly recommend taking a tour with him as I think he knows every blade of grass on property. Hudson (waitress) & Paul (bartender) at Canoe Club. This was our favorite dining experience and both Hudson & Paul made it that much better. They are both very funny and took great care of us all night. Hudson made the best recommendations and Paul makes the best chocolate martini drink you've ever had. Eric & Victor (bartenders at Octagon) we had a great time at the bar with them as they were very attentive and made great drinks. They also made us laugh and held great conversations with us. Each of these individuals are

Even in the cold and rain of January (temps between 45-65) our visit to Montage Palmetto Bluff was the perfect antidote to lockdown woes. The staff are warm, kind and super sensitive towards guests and cleanliness.
The setting is Megical and truly transports you to an idyllic time with wholesome values that create family memories of togetherness. Activies are abundant any time of year, and we found ourselves wishing we stayed longer. My kids were literally choosing from a menu of almost 50 outings daily. They are not cheap but well worth the cost with super skilled team members that actually teach life long skills in whatever activity you choose. So many learning opportunities too from eco tours in the marsh to sustainability inmersions along the river and estuary. There is no bad room in the resort though renting a home with the family is the way to go. Spacious. Fresh. Charming and oozing with personality. Staff make you feel special everywhere, with true warmth and concern. There is so much soul here that you will leave feeling like part of a family. The resort is part of a residential community right out of a movie set and, as a guest, you feel like a privileged insider to a magical world.

Just now heading home from a five night stay at this beautiful property. Not only are the surroundings and accommodations outstanding but the staff truly stand out. Since we like so many others had to cancel planned vacations due to Covid we splurged during this trip getting massages, going horseback riding, taking a private boat tour and playing golf. We dined on property several times and were really well taken care of by Kerry Ann and Beverly (lovely ladies from Jamaica) at Buffalos along with Gavin at Canoe Club. We also had a driver take us into Bluffton for dinner twice and into Savannah once. We loved the serenity of the entire property. Kirsten at the River View adults pool makes a delicious spicy margarita and Kayla at stables went above and beyond to make sure we made it to our trail ride on time. We truly enjoyed our private ride with Rachel on Phoenix and Bravo, their amazing horses. Captain Mac did a terrific job on our boat tour and we learned a lot about the area. All in all we would highly recommend a visit and can’t wait to return.

This is a wonderful property. From your first moment to your last the service is incredible. Sam S. at the front desk goes out of her way to make sure you have everything you need. She figures out exactly what you are looking for and without asking takes care of it for the rest of your stay. I'm a frequent vistor at the montage resorts and this property delievers that service model and experience. The SPA is also worth noting and has a large steam room, sauna, and jacuzzi to utilize after a long day. Great property!

Let’s get it out of the way first - it is expensive and all the activities and food are expensive. That being said, the cottage we stayed in might be the most beautiful room we have ever stayed in and the bicycles outside are a great touch. Rooms are well designed and well appointed from the fireplace, soaking tub and steam shower. Pools are good size but tend to get crowded. Downside are few dining options, with the few there expensive and not great selections of food. Another gripe is no small store the grab a soda, bag of chips, banana, etc; at what you are paying it seems like a club to the head to pay $45 for a breakfast buffet if you just wants a bagel. Every staff we ran into were cheerful and helpful. Overall some hiccups but an amazing property I look forward to revisiting.

Visited Palmetto Bluff to celebrate a decade birthday of my wife. It was a Covid driven decision given international travel is sketchy, but we were looking forward to it, having heard about it for years. It is obviously a nice property and the staff was overall very friendly and accommodating. The grounds are beautiful and the location is spectacular if you like the Lowcountry.

While some of the architecture is interesting, I found the Inn and cottages pretty uninspiring. I was expecting more for the rates being charged. Same for the dining options, which were predictable and expensive. We had five lunches/dinners on our visit and ate off property, in Bluffton and Hilton Head, three of those five meals. (I didn't mention breakfasts because I tuned out at $28 pancakes and $21 scrambled eggs.). That gets to the heart of the problem which is that when you are there, the Montage has you captive and while the facilities are fine and the food is good enough, every tike I turned around I felt I was being charged too much. At $800/night plus, I expected a lot more (our room was not even serviced before 3:00 PM which alone was a deal breaker.). If I had to do it all over again I would go to the Cloisture or even the Sanctuary at Kiawah. For the same level of pricing the facilities and the service at both places feel much more special.

We did Hilton Head and our stay at Montage separately and it worked really well for us. We wanted more beach time so we decided to stay on Hilton Head before we went to Montage. We stayed for three nights and it felt like the perfect amount of time and relax but still do things. Definitely recommend the sunset river dolphin cruise.
