The location was absolutely perfect - right in the center of the action and facing the water. We saw other people staying at hotels up the street who had to drag their bags uphill, but Hotel Residence is right on the main street, so the cab was able to drop us off right in front of the hotel, and it was only half a block from the buses for the next leg of our trip.
Our room was nice, and we had a balcony with a great view of the water. Again, perfect location.
Breakfast was included. The restaurant is fancy and does serve dinner, but we did not eat dinner there. For breakfast, there was a nice menu to choose from, and the waiters/waitresses bring the food to you (not a buffet). The pancakes were delicious.
Overall, we were very happy with this hotel and would definitely stay again.
I fell so in love with this town that I'm hoping I can stay the same week in the same room next year. Thank you Hotel Residence for making my third stay in Italy, first time in Amalfi amazing and a dream.
When we checked in, we got given a voucher for a welcome drink in the bar which was a nice touch. Reception also arranged a couple of transfers for us, which needed to be paid in cash.
We had a room which fronted onto another building, but sea/main square view from either side. Would have been good to have a table and chairs on the balcony.
The room itself was large and spacious, with a safe and a fridge (asked hotel to empty minibar, so we could use for our drinks). Bathroom was a bit on the small side and my Husband couldn’t turn round in the shower!
The common areas around the restaurant are stunning. Breakfast is not buffet style and the choices got a bit repetitive after 5 days, however eating it on the terrace looking at the sea was special.
Would definitely come back for the location, which can’t be beaten!
We spent five nights here and were well ready to move on. Our bedroom was large but sparsely furnished with furniture in poor condition. The mattress could well have been from the 18th century and filled with horse hair. The en-suite badly needs updating, we were climbing in and out of a corner bath and having to sit down to shower with a handheld shower head head because there was no curtain or shower head holder, not a great experience and how anyone older than ourselves manage, God only knows. The breakfast was most disappointing, worst 4 star offering we have ever come across. Three choices of bread, two types of pastry’s, small box of CoCo Pops or fruit salad consisting of apple, apple and oh yes…apple. Three fruit juices, tea & Coffee. Your only choice of hot food was freshly cooked eggs, boiled or fried! We were allowed out onto the exterior breakfast balcony one day out of the five. “Happy to help” staff would have been nice, don’t get me wrong, they did what we asked but it seemed to us that it hurt them to do it. Four star position with 2 star interior.
