This motel is clean and quiet (ask for a room at the rear of the motel), which is all I really expect when on a road trip in Northern Ontario. You're not going to get a fancy experience in small towns!
The owner is lovely to speak with - very friendly.

After being turned away from an overbooked motel at another city, we happened upon this motel. The room was clean and had added touches such as a nice comforter and nice decorative items around the room. The paint scheme and furniture gave it more of a boutique feel and the artwork around the property was unique. There were rags in the room provided to clean our motorcycles. It is obvious that the owner really cares about the place and wants you to be comfortable.
The owner was very pleasant to deal with and went out of his way to make us feel comfortable. There were wedding guests also staying there and for a brief period they got loud. The owner quieted them down promptly and went out of his way the next morning to apologize to us (even though the noise wasn't that bad) and make sure we had a good stay. He was very knowledgeable about the area and was extremely helpful.
I recommend this place!

Those were the days where there were decent "drive to the door" motels!
One must compare apples to apples and not apples to oranges!
As a motor motel it is just fine! If you are expecting a Travellodge stay in either Sudbury or the Sault.
The place is well kept and no lingering musty smells that so many of the ground level motels have...especially in the off season if the rooms are not used much.
I read reference to the block party walls. By the looks of the one thumbnail picture on this site, there maybe is a room with acoustic baffles in place. I hope the owners are attempting to sound proof the rooms in that manner. Unfortunately, we happened to have someone on the other side of our wall with a cold and you could hear every breath the person was taking!!
I am not sure how that happened as it was the off season with only a few rooms booked :(..
If you are planning to book the Mohawk...go right ahead, take heed from the other reviews and stop prior to Massey at a grocery store and make yourself a nice picnic. Back in the day, no one expected continental breakfast and travelled with their coolers of food. Also I would recommend asking if there IS a room available where the block wall is covered....'can't hurt to ask..and the lovely owners may get the hint that thats what people really need...but if your alarm clock is set for 6am and the other rooms goes off at 5am...you will be thanking me !! Enjoy the north...our stay was a matter of convienence as we are just 2 hours to home but had to partake of the services of the auto repair shop!! All and all always ask ahead of time for anything you are worried a place may not provide.......but it sure brings back the memories of the nice motels you could just drive to the door and ask for a room with out the big bother of booking(online) credit card in hand!

Indeed, Mohawk and its service lived up to the many good reviews that we read before booking. Would definitely recommend this lodging if you are anywhere in the area!

This is not the "boutique hotel" advertised and pictured on the web page. We were charged $93 for a very old, dingy, noisy room right on Hwy 17. Don't rush to book on the internet - look at the room first. No sign of jacuzzi, fluffy towels or fresh flowers in our room - just a tired old bar fridge and a threadbare carpet, sagging old double beds.
One look around and I went and asked for our money back. Got thrown out for my efforts (I'm 5 feet 2 inches - a real threat). An interesting experience - one I've never had before, so I guess we got our money's worth of entertainment. Not exactly "boutique hotel" management either.

As everyone knows – every story has two sides to it. If a customer books online they definitely have the chance to read about the available amenities of the room they book. One stated fact is that not every room has a Jacuzzi. If you want the amenities of a Boutique Luxury Room as offered, which is equipped with a “private” Jacuzzi (not an outside hot tub ) the customer has to pay $ 155 and not $93! It still is a miracle to us how someone who didn’t even made it to stay with us can judge one of our rooms. We are a small motel with at least 80% customer return, many of whom advise others to stay with us. The loyalty, greatly appreciated by ourselves, is not something that can be earned by the standards described in this review. We serve our customers for almost 10 years and proudly stand by the quality of our rooms. So far we only had one customer to whom we had to point out that their inappropriate behaviour is recorded on our security camera, which resulted in them to leave.

We're regulars at the Mohawk. They're our only choice when we're travelling on hwy 17. These guys go well beyond the norm. Other places we've seen on the highway say things like "well we offer clean rooms," and we're thinking to ourselves: well good for you, but we'd rather stay where we're already past that and on to things like the original artwork in the motel.
Last time we decided to try out their new "deluxe jacuzzi room" which was pretty impressive, since decor was at the level of class as a four-star hotel in old-Montreal we stayed in last year.
We snapped a couple shots to illustrate...

I was very surprised by this place - the website did not promise too much (as is often the case with small motels)!
The Mohawk Motel has a great atmosphere and is extremely clean. I found lot of perks I didn't expect from a motel (even the chains don't have these), i.e. fridge and microwave, hairdryer, awesome service ..... This place offers great rooms for little money.
Definitely where I'll be staying again next time I make a trip West!

Stayed here while in the area, the motel was clean and comfortable. Checkin was a breeze, bed was comfortable, LCD TV with cable, clean bathroom, nice water temp for shower. Across the street from newly open Back Home Bistro which was great for breakfast, not your typical small town diner fare, one of the best vegetarian omelette's I've ever had, great spot for breakfast or lunch. Recommended.

Mohawk Motel has an artsy feel to it.....and fine sculptural art works decorate the front "lawn".
Super clean, smartly selected wall colours give a tranquil feel to the room. Great breakfast
and chats with the local woman sitting in for the owner. Found out she trades rides to school
for the local Mennonite children in return for winter wood. Liked the town. Even has an
ancient jewish cemetery for its pioneers. Good family restaurant across the street. Fine
dining at the Dragonfly. The whole experience was a delightful surprise.
Thanks Trip Advisor travellers for steering us to this little gem.
