The lodge has recently been renovated and the rooms are spacious and modern and have good air-con units with additional fans to cope with the heat at this time of the year. The staff are knowledgeable and go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. We have made four trips to Sth Luangwe Game Reserve & we have visited many game parks in Africa and would rate this one of the best parks for game viewing. This trip was made even better by the local guide who took us out twice per day and we also undertook a game walk which was very informative. We also had the privilege of viewing elephant who come right into the lodge grounds to eat fruit from a tree.
I would highly recommend this lodge for serious game viewing which is mixed with good meals and good service.

We have visited Mfuwe Lodge, and several of their bush camps, several times over the last few years, both as a couple then with our first born (when an 8 month old), then second child (when eldest 3 and youngest 6 months). All visits have been special for their own reasons, and I will focus on safari here with a toddler, for which I think Mfuwe Lodge is uniquely special.

We spent a week at Mfuwe Lodge in October 2019 with our two boys (3 and 6 months). We could not have been made to feel more at home, and the two children were welcomed and treated as much a part of the family of the Lodge as anyone else. We stayed in a single lodge, with a cot for the baby and bed for the toddler. We were cautious not to let either child onto the balcony unsupervised (for obvious reasons), and took a small inflatable bath to use in the shower for washing the baby, but otherwise everything was straightforward.

Food was straightforward, with the kitchen happy to prepare whatever we needed for the kids (in practice, children's portions for the toddler, and puree for the baby), milk when needed, snacks to take on safari. The 3 year old is allergic to peanuts and this was not an issue. Meals themselves were delicious, varied and served beautifully.

We booked a private guide for safari so we could go out as a family, but equally could have booked staff to babysit one or both of the children if we wanted to go out without them. This worked really well, with the kids often napping on the drives, and us able to do full game drives and sundowners. The older child was interested in the experience, and the baby was often happy to be held and played with. Having travelled around Southern Africa, this is by far the best safari location we have visited, and could not recommend it strongly enough.

By far, the most important, and best part of the visit, was the experience of visiting such a spectacular place as a family. The staff were friendly, welcoming and we felt like we were at a home from home. We would (and will) go back in a heartbeat.

From start to finish the staff looked after us and tended to your every need , fresh ideas at meal times and a wonderful setting all made this a wonderful 4 day break. The main lodge area is inviting and the large swimming pool kept the children entertained for hours on end. Our room “ Giraffe “ was clean and kitted with everything we needed, with a huge main bed upstairs, the unit is modern and has upmarket finishes.
Our game guide Sugzo had a wealth of knowledge and made the game drives all the more interesting even when the big game was hiding the little gems were spotted , elephant shrew , genet, verreaux eagle owl and the tiniest little chameleons , general game is in abundance and we were also lucky enough to see leopard and lion

We will certainly visit here again in the dry season

We spent 3 nights at the Lodge and had an excellent stay. The room was very clean, comfortable and well equipped and you can sit on your balcony or by the pool when not on a game drive and watch animals come to the lagoon beside the lodge. All the staff are really welcoming, friendly and do everything they can to ensure you have a great stay and the food is varied, fresh ( all the vegetables are grown on Lodge's farm) and very tasty.
Our guide, Shadrick, was excellent - very knowledgable about all the animals, birds and the flora/fauna and the wildlife is varied and plentiful - we had lots of great sightings.

Couldn’t wait to be back to our home from home and as soon as the covid restrictions were relaxed we booked up and oh my life I’m so glad we did, the emotions I feel when I step off the plane is always amazing it’s the same when you arrive at the lodge, it’s like seeing old friends again. The staff are always so accommodating and attend to your every need. The rooms have had a make over and look really fresh and welcoming after a long trip or game drive, the food was amazing as always, bush breakfast was an added bonus along with the very unexpected Easter egg hunt for the little ones. As for the game drives we couldn’t of asked for more, our guide Peter was great and involved our ten year old in every sighting we had, his knowledge is exceptional, and the detail he went into blows you away. Just want to say a massive thanks to Andy, Ian, Amy and their team and hopefully we will be back very soon.

From the initial booking experience to the greeting and orientation upon arrival, the staff and management make you feel like more than a valued guest. Our guide, Patson, was knowledgable, caring and warm. The meals and service were far beyond expectation and if you go away hungry, something is wrong with you. The rooms are as beautiful as they are spotlessly clean. The property, full of park wildlife in and of itself, is comfortable, clean and has a sense of open integration with the park. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Mfuwe Lodge to anyone wanting an African safari and holiday escape. For the safari itself, the park itself is 9,000 sq. meters of spectacular. Safaris are punctuated by stops by the South Luangwa for morning tea and evening cocktails. We were even surprised to have a beautiful brunch in the bush on our last day. I honestly can't say enough good things about Mfuwe Lodge.

Very nice lodge in beautiful South Luangwa
We stayed in Mfuwe three nights and the lodge was our first stop in South Luangwa - the other was Chindeni .
The lodge is a little big bigger than the usual lodges to which we are used but it is very well organised and managed and absolutely lovely . The thatched chalet was really fine : modern , with anything you needed and very comfortable .
The communal area overlooking a lagoon , where we often saw wildlife moving around, was also very nice.
The food absolutely good and varied .
There was a library where books about nature were available to read.
All the staff was friendly , cheerful and caring : It was like being in a big family.
Amy , the manager, was very accommodating and cooperative : we had Elaja as a guide here and as we liked staying with him we asked wether it was possible to keep him when moving from Mfuwe to Chindeni and she worked to meet our requirement , satisfying it . we really appreciated it
We always had private safari during our stay ,
The area around is full of wildlife and ,incredibly, we saw five leopards and two pride of lions which were absolutely the highlights of our trip.

The best food I’ve tasted in zambia: spit roasted lamb, bespoke wraps, carrot cake, key lime pie, smoked salmon bagels, and cheese platters we have been spoilt! Our chalet was sparkling clean whilst in the middle of the bush and we had wildlife on the doorstep- hippos and monkeys. Our guide- James taught us a lot about the area and it’s inhabitants and we were lucky enough to see leopards and lions almost every day. Mfuwe is a special place right inside the park and we’ll be going back one of these Octobers to see the elephants in the lobby! Thank you for the gorgeous trip of a life time and all the fantastic surprises you gave us when we thought things couldn’t even get better!

We spent 3 nights at Mfuwe Lodge and we had the most amazing time. It was good to venture out on a holiday after a large part of the year was spent mostly cooped up at home. The lodge is making an effort to implement Covid safety measures while still creating a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere.

We had excellent game drives with our safari guide Fannuel. He is one of the most knowledgeable and personable guides we've ever had. He welcomed all our questions and shared his vast knowledge about the animals and the landscape with us. He was also excellent with our 2 year old son keeping him engaged during game drives and also giving him some lessons about the bush during our stops.

We had brilliant sightings of leopard, wild dog, lion and elephant to mention a few. The food and the service was amazing and the staff and managers were all so friendly and welcoming. We especially loved how special everyone made our 2 year old son feel. He had the best time.

We wish we could have stayed longer and would definitely love to return to do an on foot safari or see how the rainy season changes the landscape. Or even better, see the elephants walk through the reception area to get to the mango trees in November.

We highly recommend going to South Luangwa national park and staying Mfuwe Lodge.

Thankyou to the amazing staff and guides at Mfuwe lodge, our Christmas was complete with a bush Santa, great animal sightings, night game drives, breakfast in the wild and fun songs/dancing - true Christmas spirit. This holiday experience was top notch as there was attention to every detail from the food, game drives, sundowners, knowledgeable guides and amazing views from the rooms. Hearing the lions roar at night, walking to breakfast as warthogs graze along the path, watching the elephant stroll into the parking bay as we left the lodge are just some of the amazing memories we also carry with us.

Thankyou for this once in a lifetime experience. We shall be back!!

This may seem like a silly question - how 'reasonable' are bar charges?

I live and work in London, which is pricey at the best of times and I found their prices were not too high af the lodge. I was expecting them to be, however they were fine and we didn’t end up spending as much additional money on the bar as we thought we might as drinks at lunch etc are included. Do make the best of your sundowners however!

Hi there! The end of September is a great time for game-viewing. It is dry here then, so game tends to concentrate around the waterholes. Regarding your other question, there are advantages to booking through an agent, but the decision is ultimately up to you!

i am so sorry, i didnt see this msg. you can do that for sure.. just contact the lodges and they will arrange transfers for you. they usually do it with their own vehicles.. just tell them where you want to go... each lodge can get you to the next. that is how i always do it.. on my own.
