LEGOLAND Castle Hotel captivates guests with its enchanting, family-friendly atmosphere and themed rooms that are a hit with kids, as noted by reviewers. While the cleanliness and maintenance of the hotel earn praise from many travelers, some have reported housekeeping concerns. Opinions on service are divided; some guests commend the staff's friendliness, yet others point out organizational issues. Although the amenities are tailored for families and include an acclaimed breakfast, there are suggestions for service enhancements. Despite being appreciated for their cleanliness, the rooms have drawn criticism for noisy A/C units. The hotel's value proposition has been questioned by guests who feel it may not justify the cost, although specific packages are recognized as worthwhile by some.

Lots of pros and a few cons about this hotel. We also stayed at the original Legoland Hotel a couple of years ago so it was good to compare the two.
Pros:
The Legoland Castle Hotel is newer and it's apparent in the common areas and in the rooms.
The rooms are very well set up for kids and adults (same as Legoland). Kids have a separate sleeping area (now with a curtain for privacy) with bunk beds, their own TV, and with a trundle bed so you could sleep 3 kids in a room. Adults have the other end of the room with a bathroom that separates the kids and adults areas.
You still get the codes every day to unlock the safe and find the new lego goodies.
There are very good food options in the buffet for adults. And kids also have a variety of healthy choices as well. The breakfast buffet is in the Castle Hotel but the dinner buffet is only in the old (Legoland) hotel. If you're doing the whole 30 diet, there are hard boiled eggs, salad, fruit, made to order omelettes that are available for breakfast plus non-healthy stuff like pastries and biscuits and gravy, fried rice.
The old hotel is somewhat chaotic because all the activities are inside. For the Castle Hotel, they have a cool slide that takes you from the 1st floor down to the lobby. But other than that, the activities are outside so you get a quieter hotel inside. There's a great play area outside plus an area where you can watch Lego movies plus another area with a stage where they sometimes put on shows. And past all that, you have a nice big pool and decent sized hot tub.
There is a fitness room for adults but it's pretty basic. It looks like they converted a room (without a bathroom) to a fitness room.
If you do need a break from the limited dining options, you can walk 10m to the Costco nearby. In that little strip mall, there's a very good burger place, a Starbucks, a Nothing Bundt Cakes.
Con:
Short staffing. We wanted to have dinner at the restaurant in the hotel. We got there at 5pm and were told that all the tables were reserved until 7:30pm. But we walked by several times between 5 and 7:30pm and the restaurant had several empty tables. My guess is that they didn't have enough staff so they just controlled the number of people until more staff were available. We also noticed on Monday evening that the pool simply had a sign that said "Closed" without any times. On Tuesday it had a sign that said "Open from 9-7"
WiFi: The Castle Hotel charges a $28 resort fee which includes "wireless internet access throughout the property and in-room". But when you sign up to access it on your phone, you're asked to fill in your name, birth date, email, phone and told that your information will be collected, and asked to sign up for marketing emails. So I pay for something and in return, you can collect all the information on my phone?

Hello RoadWarrior71, Thank you for your rating and feedback. We’re glad that you enjoyed the hotel room, buffet, and outside play areas. We are sorry that our staffing levels were not as expected. I am not aware of any reason for tables to be empty in the restaurant. Reservations are held for a time even when the Guests are late. Unexpected pool closures can occur if there has been a safety or hazardous concern. The hotel front desk can always assist you in finding the most current availability and hours. I apologize for the inconvenience you experienced. We appreciate your comments and will share them with the Resort Hotel Team. Linda Guest Experience Team

Almost everyone at the hotel was friendly and anxious to help whenever we had a problem. You can't beat the location of the hotel for access to the park. The included breakfast buffet was easy and fast. It gave us plenty of time to get into the park before the 10:00 public opening.

• As of 3/13/20, there are no signs or staff directing guests at the buffet to use a clean plate for each visit. I watched a man scrape the rice serving spoon across his soiled plate, through his partially eaten food, and place it back in the rice.

• The pool has the opposite spectrum of safety rules. All guests under 48" tall must wear a life vest...even though the majority of the pool, especially behind the rope separating the deep end from the shallow end, is only 18" deep. My six-year-old is 44" tall and had to wear a life vest in water that was barely over his knees. There is a waiver parents can sign but then one parent has to be in the pool with the child. Don't let them tell you that you have to be within arm's length. They tried to tell us we had to be, but it wasn't anywhere in the waiver. We probably would not have rented the cabana had we known about that policy up front.

I would probably not stay at this hotel again. The best part is the proximity to the park itself.

Dear aagarciafw, Thank you for leaving a review in regards to your most recent visit to the LEGOLAND Hotel. We are glad that you enjoyed our friendly and assistive staff as well as how close the hotel is to the park. We are saddened to hear that not everything met up to your expectations. The guidelines regarding life vests for children at the pool are to ensure guests' safety. It is our top priority that our guests staying with us are safe during their visit with us. The waiver is not meant to replace the life jacket entirely, but rather to again ensure our guests are safe. As for the buffet, our hostess and wait staff to their best remind guests to replace their plate every time they go up to get more food. Your feedback will be forwarded to our management team for further review. Warm Regards, Tori Guest Experienece Managing Team

We visited the Legoland Castle hotel the weekend of April 10th for my daughter's birthday. Upon arrival the front desk had the proper plastic partitions and hand sanitizing area setup. Being this our first time at the resort we were expecting some guidance from their part in locating our rooms or at least indicating an area where we should walk to, this was not the case. We walked around for 15minutes trying to figure out where our room was at, eventually made our way back to the front desk which pointed towards the end of a corridor and told us it would be towards the furthest part of the building. We made it to our room which was exactly as described. At the pool the lifeguards were acting more as security guards with their authoritarian demeanor towards the children. Definitely would not let my kids go unnatended with the two male lifeguards around, if you can even call them that. We ate offsite the 1st night and decided to tryout the dragon's den restaurant for breakfast. I noticed there are two types of staff here, the ones who are frustrated by not having any direction to try and assist you and those who look away rather not to help you out. We checked in for breakfast and they asked for our drink orders, we never saw those drinks. They moved us along like an elementary cafetería style feeding, with horrible tasting food. I asked the men at the omellete station for a simple scrambled egg for my daughter rather than the powered eggs they scrambled up to feed you, his response was "sorry, i only make omelletes" I understand they are busy, but you are in the hospitality business, be hospitable. A young food busser was cleaning up a soiled table for us to sit at and he had no sanitizing spray, I seen him go to a supervisor to ask for more and the supervisor simply said sorry we don't have any. In a time like COVID if you don't have supplies to sanitize why do you even operate? I can feel th frustration of this young man, he left his food trolley and went around asking other co-workers for spray until he eventually found one. He apologized to us, but he shouldn't have, this was poor guidance on management in not having supplies handy for them. I worked hospitality for many years throughout college and this is not how you run a hotel especially one that is ridiculously overpriced! I wish I could have gotten the name of the food busser to thank his supervisor there is that ONE hard worker that did what he could.

HopeIDontHaveCOVID wrote a review Nov 2020

Up until we were leaving, the stay was fine. Based on their advertised cleaning protocols for COVID, we felt reasonably safe booking the trip. What ultimately really tipped the scales for us was that we felt the hotel industry had a lot riding on getting it right - they had to be careful with the cleaning, or they would fall into a deeper hole than they already were.

The stay itself was fine. Even though many of the hotel amenities were closed or limited, the family still enjoyed the theming. The pool was pretty crowded, despite the limited attendance and the reservations they were requiring, but you could still find a spot away from other people as long as you were willing to be in the shallow end. And the reality is, the family just enjoyed being in a hotel, even if we were doing something as ordinary as watching TV. Water is limited to two bottles up front, so you probably want to bring extra bottled water if you don't like bathroom sink tap water.

When we were packing up to leave the room however, I noticed a piece of clothing in one of the bedside tables. It was a black tank tap, and IT DIDN'T BELONG TO US. It was dark in that corner, so maybe I could understand how it could have been missed, but it also wasn't hidden in a drawer or anything - it was just there in the open. Finding something like that made me instantly suspicious of how well they actually cleaned the room. Its the kind of thing that instantly makes the bottom drop out of your stomach and replay everything you did in the room for the last few days, and all of your prior risk calculations and self-assurance go out the window.

I've texted them, and at least they were somewhat responsive about it. The room was occupied the night before, so I guess i have to wonder how much time they are giving their staff to really clean the rooms.

So, the stay itself was fine, but I guess I won't really know how the room was until about 14 days from now.

Such an amazing place for kids or adults. The whole atmosphere is amazing, you walk into this magic castle that is covered in legos and the front desk staff is so nice then when you get into the room it is like a whole another experience. It's a magic place and my kids were in heaven. It was so clean and everything was decorated and just so much. Then there was a scavenger hunt for the children and they got to open the treasure chest and get a special surprise which they loved. We went to dragon dun and zak the hostess was amazing and took good care of us, helped us when our son spilled and was just so kind. Staying there days with 2 toddlers things can get a bit messy but Karina rangel cleaned our room and always made it look so great. She would even tuck my sons teddy bear in when she made the bed which made him so happy. We would recommend this hotel to anyone and can not wait to come back this fall.

Front desk greeters were neither very friendly nor knowledgeable of park's activities for the day. The patio room assigned (and paid extra for) was right at the entrance of the play area so every single person utilizing had full view of our room. DO NOT accept room 171, ask for different assignment. Watch out for trundle bed frame, is metal and some parts sharp. Cut open my big toe really bad and bleeding like stuck pig. Called for bandages from room phone and no one came for an hour. Utilized messaging service and help arrived in 15 minutes. Other than front lobby and outside play area not much else at the hotel to do. Treasure hunt took 5 minutes. Park itself was great, did not see much benefit of the expensive hotel stay.

We live locally, had annual LegoLand passes and have been to multiple (at least 4) birthday parties at the Castle Hotel. I inquired with these parents the steps in having a birthday party at the playground. We rented a room for the night and invited our now 5 year old son's friends to join us on the playground. We ordered and brought pizza with us. We were about to serve 10 children pizza on the patio when the restaurant manager came out and told us we could not. We had 10 very hungry kids and a one of their employees standing in the way of feeding them. No outside food on the patio. I explained the situation and she told us we had to leave or go to our room to eat. 10 children and all of their parents in one room eating was the solution? or leave?? and the room wasn't even ready. All this after paying over $300 for the room. We moved everyone down to the big screen area to eat (understanding that the patio is part of the restaurant) and the manager sent security to remove the pizza. The way this was handled is UNACCEPTABLE. Outside food has always been fine and if the rules have changed recently (which we were told they had), there should have been an exception this one time. My son was hungry and ask me in front of the manager why he couldn't eat. I can NOT tell you how disappointed I am in this service and Legoland as a whole. The only saving grace is that the security guards tried to help and come up with a solution, They were nice and provided the service that we would expect from all legoland employee. Also, between all of the adults, we spent well over $300 at the bar and we offered to give more money to the restaurant to eat our own pizza. The manager was not having it. We are so disappointed and will not be continuing our business with them again. This should have been dealt with in a more kind, understanding and gentle way, especially with hungry 5 year olds.

Dear Jeff v, I apologize for your unfortunate experience and understand that you were unaware of our recent enforcement of not permitting self-catered gatherings in our common areas at our resort. Our spaces are limited and it is unfair to other hotel guests to allow organized gatherings that include friends of guests. I agree the manager should have been sensitive to your situation and allowed you limited time at a suitable alternative location to not spoil the day for your son and friends. I will take this back to my managers as a learning opportunity and reminder to always treat guests with the upmost sensitivity and compassion. Thank you for your feedback and we would be honored to help plan and organize any birthday events in the future. Please reach out to me directly to discuss and resolve your disappointing experience. We stayed in the hotel for two nights, but the second night was not cleaned up. The treasure box was opened/unlocked when we got back. My daughter was so disappointed when she saw there was nothing there.

We were back around 9:45 pm on 12/31/19 but the room was uncleaned. And the front desk did not know how long it would take if we wanted to get the room cleaned. And when the janitor came, she did not even speak English so she didn't know what we needed. Finally, we had to tell her not to clean the room just left us 5 bath towels since my kid was so tired. We can't spend another 30 mins waiting outside for the room cleaning at 10 pm.

This was not a good experience for the new year's eve.

I cannot stress enough how much me and my family LOVED this hotel. Firstly, the front desk staff was friendly and helpful. It was out first stay so of course we had a lot of questions and check in took a little longer than your average family. Adam A took our luggage while we waited for our room to be ready, then brought it up for us when it was ready. He was extremely friendly. We have stayed at quite a few hotels over our years and the food at this one knocks all the others out of the park. Dinner was amazing for everyone. We paid extra for the birthday package and the cake that came with it was delicious. I even asked the waitress to skip the whole loud happy birthday clapping song as to not embarrass our daughter and she happily obliged. We stayed in the wizard themed room and it was absolutely adorable. Plenty of room for the 6 of us to sleep/hang out comfortably. Breakfast was by far the best complimentary breakfast we have ever had. PLENTY of options, all yummy. Oh, and the pool/spa were both clean and nice temperatures. We didn't stay too long as it was not the warmest out to begin with but had a nice time for the couple of hours we were there.

First the two warnings, and then my general review. And, I call them warnings, rather than simply complaints, because they have the possibility to cause significant problems for you.

First, and most important, do not believe the website FAQ when it says that, as an annual passholder, you will be guaranteed admittance into the park during your entire hotel stay (during COVID 19 capacity restrictions). We stayed on a Saturday night, and reserved admittance into the park on Saturday, using our passes. Because you can only reserve one day at a time using your pass, we could not reserve for Sunday. But, the website FAQs says that if you are a passholder, reserve your first day, and the hotel will assist you in making reservations for the rest of your stay at check in. When we checked in, hotel staff was clueless as to how to help us make a park reservation, and told us to go over to the park's guest services. When we did that, we were told that the park was fully reserved for Sunday, and there was nothing they could do -- despite the hotel claiming that guests are guaranteed admittance during their stay. I had to scream at them for 10 straight minutes (causing them to call security) before they finally relented and figured out how to secure us reservations for Sunday.

Second warning: the hotel pool requires children under 48 inches to wear a life jacket. This means that kids even up to the ages of 7-8 might not be able to swim without a lifejacket. It's insane, and I've never seen another hotel or pool require this. Our kids have been pool safe since they were 4 years old, swim in the ocean and fetch rings 10+ feet down. I call this a warning because if you have a swim safe kid who is under 48 inches, this rule has the ability to ruin your pool experience. We have a 7 and 9 year old, and were traveling with another family who had an 8 and 10 year old. Our 7 year old was the only one under 48 inches, and was going to be left bobbing around the pool while her older sister and friends were swimming freely, diving for rings and playing marco polo. Luckily she was close to 48 inches, so when we told her it was fine to to not wear it, and the lifeguards didn't seem to notice. When we travel on vacation, we really love spending time at the pool, and if our kids had to wear a life vest, it would have the possibility of ruining that experience.

As far as the hotel experience more generally, we enjoyed our stay. The bunk beds and private space for the kids is such a great idea. I wish more hotels would do this. The playground in the courtyard was really great. Again, I wish more hotels would have a playground. Staff and guests were good about wearing masks, and they have hand sanitizer everywhere.

Reservations for the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast filled up fast (it was a crowded weekend), so make sure to get on OpenTable well ahead of time to secure them. You can always take it to go and eat next to the playground, if you can't get a table.
