This was the fourth campsite on our trip. We are 3 adults and 2 kids (3 and 1) in a 32ft RV travelling from the UK. We stayed at busy family campsites with lots of kids activities and fun, and we stayed at isolated campsites in the middle of nowhere with minimal amenities. I’m not quite sure where this one sits. It’s isolated, nothing in walking distance except Booths Trail which is beautiful but you will need a carrier for young kids as it’s about 2-3 hours in total. I’d recommend staying if you have a car to access other lovely areas of Algonquin during your stay.

There was a concierge who was super helpful and gave us a useful map and newspaper of the area which was brilliant. The shop seemed a bit pointless though - souvenirs rather than useful items such as toothpaste and baby wipes!

The water was beautiful, as were the views from our campsite which was right on the beach front. There is little privacy, but this didn’t have an effect on our stay and everyone was friendly and polite.

The beach was nice, but the resident Geese leave their droppings all over, making it in accessible for our almost one year old who still puts anything and everything in his mouth!

It wasn’t quite right for us, but for families with older kids and a car it would be lovely.

Was generous with three stars because I love Algonquin and the views were great, as was our site.
Being packed in like sardines isn’t so great. Having neighbours with 15 people on their site and a screaming baby at 3-4-5am isn’t great. Won’t be back to this park, and will seek out smaller campsites in the future.
Plus: flush toilets
Booth’s Rock Trail
Sunsets
Sandy beach at our site

Booked a waterfront site, the view was amazing and lots of places to canoe/kayak. Negative reviews include 1/the sites are very close together some fire pits are on the neighbors boundary 2/the water from the taps seemed very bad this year, obviously not used for drinking 3/7 km gravel road to site, very bumpy and dusty 4/min supervision from staff during the evening/night hours. Years past drive through during the night, not anymore.

We have now camped with a small trailer at Rock Lake four times, each being at least 6 days. We always book 5 months to the day in advance to get our favorite site (#60 or #61). Yes it is true there is zero privacy, but the view is worth it.
We did not use the proper swim beach but use the area right infront of our site with no problems. Water is clear and clean.
We never had a problem with rangers, which drive by many times during the day and night, actually they usually smile and wave and from time to time stop and chat with us. Now we are not partiers nor heavy drinkers. In my mind, if your out to be loud and roudy or drunk, why go to a campground in the wilderness? I'm sure there are alot of "Party" campgrounds around that allow that. But for us and many others we meet, they want the peace and tranquility of nature.
We have always found the campground to be clean and washrooms acceptable. Its not a hotel, its a campground after all.
The lake itself is wonderful for a paddle, the wind can get up but never that bad you could not paddle home. The fishing is well, its not the greatest. Way too many fisherman keeping all they catch.
The road in off of highway 60 can be alittle rattling as it is gravel. Some of the wash board will really rattle your vehicle. This year when we went they just gratered the road and did a poor job as it was washboard from side to side the full 7 km. Very hard on the vehicles, but we were told the grater or operator was not working right and it would be re-grated the next week.
All in all a great place to relax, yes it can get busy with loud children or partiers, but never bad enough to want to complain. I would recomend it and will be back.

21 years ago I spent an unforgettable two weeks at Rock Lake with my family and friends. Now that I've grown up and have a family of my own, I decided to lead them to Rock Lake to recapture some of those memories. As much as I feared that I would face disappointment, I was pleasantly surprised. After all those years, nothing has changed. Rock Lake is beautiful, clean and fun. Our camping space was private, spacious and right on the waterfront. We canoed directly out of our spot and spent time visiting nearby islands for swimming, picnicing and fishing. The Rock hiking trail is challenging yet offers breathtaking views of the lake.

Some advice:
Book at campground "B"...much quieter than "A"
Book your spot 6 months in advance if possible.
Beware of racoons. They can open zippers of tents and open breadboxes.

My family and 5 other families went to Rock Lake camp site from July 18th to July 21st, 2013.

At 9 o'clock the camp site warden came and said the children are noisy. The families had children between the age of 1 to 10. Because of the warden we couldn't let our children play in the camp site and restrict their fun time.

Then by 10 o'clock we were told that we need to pack up and sleep because others are sleeping. We work hard all year and went to the camp site to have some fun and give jungle like feeling to our children. But the site warden wanted the sites to be quieter than a classroom.

Also, the warden threatened us many times that she would give a ticket if we don't listen to her. She was very rude and I was surprised a group of family oriented people with little children were treated like this.

On the 19th of July, we had a severe thunderstorm from the morning till 4.00 pm, so started cooking late. The warden yelled at us for cooking late. When I went to this camp site, I never knew there these kind of restrictions.

My fellow campers, if you want to go for camping, don't even consider Algonquin park Rock Lake site.

Folks, weekend out with 6 Families with children. When i booked online, the system allowed me to book all 6 families next to each other. NO COMPLAINTS.

We have very small children and chose to go camping so that kids can learn other side.

unfortunately, Park rangers had racial profiled us. On the first day, We were warned that we shouldn't torch light at raccoon . one of the kid put the light on raccoon and some next door guy complaint. Not just that, she came and told us not to book their campground ever again if we were to go large group (then why the system allowed me to book it?).
Next day morning, another guy's dog chased the raccoon no one came . Even the dog that belongs to 'certain' people is NOT a problem but kid belongs to certain people is more trouble for these people.

I wish we get 'good' treatment like raccoon.

Our government must do more than enough to teach these folks 'cultural' sensitiveness and there are 'different' type of people. Government too busy bragging about their diversity plans while these parks and other area are still not 'tolerance' enough towards other ethnic groups.

We were given frequent visits by rangers and warned for noise (it is not like we were bunch of guys were drinking..we were families of kids and they don't go to sleep exactly like home, what is the point if we want to live same life again in camp ground?)
Their repeated warnings and visits made us feel like we were in detention camp in a community state.

We have been camping in Algonquin Provincial Park for approximately 30 years. Our first camping experience wasn’t exactly the smoothest couple of days we ever had. We had friends over from England, so we borrowed a tent from some friends, which unfortunately couldn’t handle the severe thunder storm that rolled in around 3:00am. My wife and I were sleeping on a mattress in the back of our Dodge Caravan. We stayed lovely and dry, right up until the 4 soaked, freezing souls joined us in the van. We decided to make some hot chocolate for the kids, and the adults, so as the storm moved off in to the distance, I got out and started making the hot drinks. This was when the ever present, although you don’t always see them, Algonquin Racoons moved in to presumably help me carry the drinks. This freaked the kids out, as we don’t have racoons in the UK, and they were convinced the “big scary pussycats” were going to rip Uncle Andrew to pieces. They didn’t, and we eventually warmed up and dried out. Understandably, the kids and their dad were done with the whole camping in the North thing, so we did the long drive home. My wife and I found the Algonquin scenery breathtaking, and vowed that we would definitely return. And that’s exactly what we have done, every year since that first fateful trip.
Our first few years we stayed at Lake of Two Rivers campground. This campground is right next to Highway 60, which is the main road that runs through the park. It has a store attached to the campground, which is convenient, but Lake of Two Rivers is a fairly noisy, and generally known as “the party campground”, which is fine, but we prefer a quieter, more relaxing style of camping. We decided to try out Rock Lake, and we haven’t looked back since. We absolutely love this campground, which is even better since they built the wonderful comfort station some 10 years ago. There is nothing like having a nice hot shower after a day of hiking trails or canoeing.
Rock Lake has a very nice public beach, with a side beach that is dog friendly, and our dogs absolutely love to be in the water. It is also on the Mew Lake to Booth Rock bike trail, that follows the route that the logging train used to take. The rails have long been removed, and the trail goes past several lakes and is very scenic. You can also visit those same lakes by canoeing from Rock Lake. There is a river connecting Rock Lake to Whitefish Lake, and if you keep going you will eventually make it all the way to Mew Lake. Rock Lake also has a boat launch, and is a popular starting point for those who do interior camping.
I strongly recommend this campground if you have a young family, or you’re a family who prefers a quieter camping experience. If you want to party and play your music a little louder, then Rock Lake is probably not the place for you.
Our kids are getting older, with one already away at university. But even now they can’t wait to get up to Rock Lake for our annual camping trip….even with her boyfriend in tow. My wife and I are looking forward to the day we can all go to Rock Lake with the grandkids…..not to soon though.

We stayed at site 121 Campground B in Rock Lake for 4 days with another couple.

We had lots of fun and the campsite is very peaceful. Rock lake is a smaller park and is more secluded than the rest of the parks I am told. The park is very quite and it is not very busy. The park is very clean and well kept, even the bathrooms were kept rely well. There are only showers located at the park entrance, but every where else has flush toilets. The beach and swimming area here is not the greatest, not enough beach and very very shallow. I imagine that there are better beaches in algonquin.

The view for our site was amazing! We had a waterfront site with the view of the mountains, it was a pleasure just to sit and watch night or day. We saw a good amount of wild life while we were there, most are very friendly such and chipmunks, and the ducks would swim with you! There was also a friendly fox. Although one night the racoons decided to make our stay not so comfortable. attacking our tents (Even though there was no food or attractants inside) That night I slept in the truck lol

Every other review on here has some comment about the park warden. The wardens are very active in this camp ground and are passionate about there record for a clean environment. You will see them actively come by at least every half hour. They will even introduce themselves to you the first night you arrive. I can see how this may make some visitors wiry, even I got in a bit of trouble for trying to find sticks on the ground ($125 fine FYI) I could burn because we had we wood. As long as you are not misbehaving you will enjoy your self.

I would strongly recommend not buying Ontario Parks Fire wood!! Every time we do no matter where it is from it is always soaking wet!! Because of this we could not have a fire the first night. Do you self a favour and stop in Whitney to pick up your fire wood.

If you are looking for an escape from the hustle a bustle, and away from the touristy parks in algonquin Rock lake is an amazing place to stay. Keep in mind it is VERY quite there!! you can hear your neighbor from 5 sites down just taking quietly. So if you like to be loud around the camp fire this is not the place for you.

Spent 4 days at Rock Lake section B site 122. Lets understand something here folks. If youre going to a "car camping" site, expect there to be ZERO privacy. If you want solitude in the woods, then maybe you should explore the back country. As a seasoned car and back country/crown camper, I went to Rock Lake with the sole purpose of having a nice sunny weekend with my kids and crushing the Old Rail Trail. And the lakeside aspect was awesome.
If it wasnt for staying on the water, I wouldnt stay in this campground, or any other "car camping" campground, as privacy is always an issue for me. But, the water front is great, mostly sandy, shallow; and the views are great.
The comfort station (flush toilets in section B) were clean on the most part. Buggy, but again this is camping, right?!
Water tap was clean, good pressure.
Trails were well marked.
Also hiked Booths Rock. Twice. 5k. Beautiful lookouts.
As for car camping (site 122 is the smallest site in the section) the waterfront was very nice and had a nice lookout over the lake.
Never had an issue with wardens, we played music, and my kids rode bikes around the campground freely.
Would I stay there again? Probably. It wasnt super busy, the lake is nice, and the rail trail (and lots of other Algonquin trails) are great.
Again people, if you want privacy why dont you go into the backcountry??
Oh thats right bc of bugs and bears, zero amenities, and thunderboxes. So, if you cant deal with that, then suck it up and car camp and enjoy nature. And if the privacy is an issue you cant get around, then look elsewhere to camp. Ontario is full of parks with optimal levels of privacy at the car camping sites. Expand your horizons and drive a little farther.
HAPPY CAMPING!!!
