This resort doesn’t recycle!!! On our moving out day elevator was broken, when I reported this to reception I received a shrug from front office staff, yeah, they know, but what can you do. Please move on with times Grand Canadian Resort Club, many nicer places to stay in Canmore for this price. It was also the first time we had to PAY for wifi.

Huge pool with an inside and outside hot tub, could easily accommodate two sets of visitors with appropriate social distancing, but that would be too much effort for the staff to possibly think outside the box. Also, if the pool was not booked for half an hour, they would rather have it sit empty then let your room go twice in one day! The outside BBQs were closed down, again due to COVID, but really just laziness.
Main floor rooms could easily have had patios, but didn’t!! The interiors really need an overhaul!
The only good thing I can say is great proximity to the mountains and hiking trails.
I am sending photos and a full report to the management with hopes of getting a timeshare credit at another property! That was not worth the money at all!!!!

With that being said, we arrived at the Grand Canadian a little late. We called ahead and told the woman we were running late because we were skiing at Mt. Nakiska. We called ahead because others said to do so and we appreciated that advice. She was very curt but checked us in within less than 10 minutes. I suggest that if you will be late, call ahead, that way she won't be so mean. I didn't even ask her anything, because I knew she would probably be rude, so I just grabbed some brochures and made off for our room.
The 2 bedroom condo was HUGE. It had a fireplace, windows that looked out to the woods, 2 huge bedrooms both with private baths, dining area and breakfast bar, plenty of closets, full kitchen with all cooking items you could ask for, washer/dryer, 3 flat screen tvs, plenty of towels (bathing & pool) and some coffee/sugar to get you started. I found the unit to be clean and had no issues. The fireplace wasn't working and the kitchen sink dripped if you didn't shut it off a certain way, so we jotted it down to tell maintenance on Monday. We were very happy. We found a Safeway in town (even though The Grand Canadian is in the mountains, Canmore is the quickest 4 minutes drive away), and loaded up on breakfast foods and lunch meats so we could pack picnic lunches. BTW...Tim Horton's coffee is really good.
My husband and daughter used the pool quite a bit. They said from day to day the pool was either a good warm temp or a little on the cool side. I used the hot tub once and it was perfect.
Either the place was empty, but I really didn't see anybody. On Monday I was able to talk to somebody at the front desk about my fireplace and leaky faucet issue. She actually started arguing with me a bit about how to use the fireplace and I was like, listen lady, it doesn't work, fix it, I want my daughter to enjoy the fireplace. It was taken care of the same day. Other than that, no timeshare invitations, no welcome parties, no movie nights or anything. We were fine with that, because we were skiing at Sunshine Village or Lake Louise everyday and came home very tired, but if you like all that shmoozin and interacting with members, you will be disappointed, because there is NONE of that here.
The place has an underground heated parking (no charge), wi-fi for $10 a week (decent $), no restaurant on site, but like I said, the town is right there and so many choices of eateries or go to Safeway and buy food to make.
The condo was so spacious, plenty of hangers to line dry your wet ski clothes or just dry your socks in the dryer.
The place is very convenient to Banff National Park - depending on the time you leave, you can be in Banff between 10 - 25 minutes. PAY YOUR ENTRY TICKET for the time you will be there and DON'T SPEED, we saw people getting tickets for both!
The sheer beauty of the mountain ranges in Banff National Park is unparalleled...it is clean, serene and totally unobstructed by billboards or rest stops, gas stations or fast food eateries.
Skiing in Sunshine Village was my favorite. Closer to Canmore than Lake Louise and more novice friendly.
So overall, I would recommend this property. It was not a horrorshow. It is really quiet, nobody bothers you, nobody is around. If you like calling the front desk and being catered to - then don't stay here. But if you think you can handle things yourself and want to be left alone to do your own thing, then give it a whirl - there is so much to do in that area and so little to do at The Grand Canadian, that we mostly just dragged our tired bodies there after skiing and just showered up, watched tv and ate some dinner. The beds were very comfy and again, it was so quiet, we got great sleeps.
We were on first floor, no balcony, but nice views of the woods.
The only negative thing I can say about the resort is that it doesn't have an onsite restaurant. This is really only a minor concern though because there are many wonderful restaurants and little shops just a few minutes drive away. The location is quiet and secluded and absolutely perfect for relaxing after a busy day skiing, hiking or taking in all the fun things to do in the area. We've stayed in a two-bedroom unit both times and found them to be clean, comfortable and very nicely appointed with a full kitchen, living area and cosy gas fireplace, perfect for warming up after a day on the slopes. The kids enjoyed the games room and the heated outdoor pool (even in the snow!) and we enjoyed the outdoor hot tub. I would recommend this resort to anyone who wanted a peaceful, very comfortable place to unwind after a busy day in the mountains.
The floors are paper thin. You can hear every step and noise from upstairs. The worst part was when the upstairs guests turned on the jetted tub in the master bathroom. It vibrated the entire downstairs like a helicopter was hovering above the room.
Furniture is old and needs a major upgrade. I can't recall the last time I saw a regular old fashion TV as opposed to the more common flat screen TV.
At the check-in, you are given a page of rules and policies. You are to clean up and dump your own trash before departing. Load all used flatware and run the dishwasher. Etc, etc.
Thanks to Interval World's mistake, I got traded into this place. Never would I return again and never would I use II ever again.
To the person who complained about not having enough garbage bags etc. etc. We had plenty of dishwashing soap, plastic garbage bags, toilet paper and Kleenex and because we are in a timeshare unit we don't expect any cleaning, however it is a bonus at some resorts when they do a mini midweek clean. Washer and Dryer were handy as we changed guests so it was nice to wash all the sheets and towels before their arrival. ( I take extra detergent). Underground parking is perfect and YES it was explained to us to park in the double stalls if we had 2 autos for our unit.
Now about the TV's......we had 3 TV's and ALL were Flat screen TV's.....nothing liker the outdated TV's another complained about.
Our checkin date was on a Saturday, however we didn't come till Sunday. As soon as we checked in we found the toilet in the second bedroom was not flushing . We immediately went to the desk and the clerk said nothing could be done on Sunday, which is understandable as it wasn't an emergency and we still had the other bathroom but I could see this being a problem if you only had the one toilet. On Monday we toured for most of the day and the toilet was fixed when we got back.....I think that was great service!!
As other reviewers mentioned.....it would be nice to have a couple of extra occasional chairs if the units are for 6-8 people.
All in All the few things on our wish list like a few serving bowls, casserole/baking dish and a few extra chairs would not make or break us staying here again. If they get these items its a bonus but even if they don't....we would for sure stay at the Grand Canadian again.
*** If I was the management company I would be addressing all of the complaints on TripAdvisor to help avoid all the negative comments...... then people like me would have nothing to worry so much before their stay. Tell people what changes have been made.
