Good for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
We stayed for 6 nights at Alam Shanti, in the upstairs Superior rice view Villa. Nyuh Kuning is a lovely cul de sac village (ie no through traffic) and very clean. The room was as per hotel photos, however, the verandah photos on the hotel site showed open space. Once we arrived we had enclosed glass verandahs. This was a disappointment at the time, This was explained as a remedy to keep the monkeys away. We experienced the benefit of this mid stay when a monkey came thru an open window and raided used breakfast plates. Next day with the window still left open (by us) more monkeys arrived. I accidently left some $80AUD in my room and realized once we were home. I contacted the Hotel, they found my hiding place and retained the money until I Arranged for someone to pick it up. I was very appreciative of their efforts and subsequent correspondence. It was a very efficient and professional approach, as expected from a quality organization that is the Alam Shanti Group. Unique experience of individual bungalows; bedrooms designed with an outdoor bathroom. Very comfortable, spacious room with own front terrace. Comfortable large bed with mosquito net, minibar, A/C, welcome fruit bowl. Excellent breakfast. I highly recommend the black rice pudding! Lovely pool. Shuttle to town. (Descriptions saying nearby entrance to monkey forest are inaccurate. That entrance is closed.) But the best thing about this place is the attentiveness of the staff. They will bend over backwards to be helpful. I arrived with a mobility scooter and they actually built two ramps for me so I could access the room!

This was our second stay at Alam Shanti and it is the perfect place for an authentic Bali experience. The rooms and gardens are absolutely beautiful, the breakfast is delicious, the staff always obliging and the free hotel shuttle is a very thoughtful service. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would!
We have been visiting Ubud for over 10 years now and only ever stay at one of the three Alam hotels - Alam Shanti, Alam Indah and Alam Jiwa - and wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. Each hotel is quite small so they all feel like a home away from home. All offer the same beauty and wonderful staff, but each has a slightly different aesthetic due to their location. You can't go wrong with any of them.
We are already booked for next year for another stay at Alam Shanti.

Beyond beautiful. The long walkway to the hotel makes it feel secluded and like you are in your own private retreat. I only stayed here 2 nights but wish I could have stayed here forever! A big plus, the breakfast is so amazing and they will bring it to your room in the mornings. The staff is incredible. Loved the location, staying south of the monkey forest is a lot more calm than staying north. Beautiful pools and the grounds were gorgeous and well tended to. Would not hesitate to recommend this place to everyone!

This was our second stay at Alam shanti, and I can’t wait to return. We love the traditional style of the room and gardens, staff are all friendly and helpful. Great location for those who don’t want the full on vibe of central Ubud, but still able to walk 10 mins to go out for shopping and restaurants. We ate every night just 1 min walk from hotel and loved the peace away from main Street . We stayed in Gangaa, same as previous visit, and felt so comfortable and relaxed. Loooove Alam shanti!!

You will not find a warmer welcome than at Alam Shanti. The place is gorgeous and the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and part of the family. The attention to detail is impeccable and the location is great, super-convenient for anywhere in and around Ubud. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 4 nights in Indus villa. It was like being in the jungle, the garden was so green and beautiful and full of vibrant wildlife. The villa was enormous with everything you could possibly need. Breakfast was served on our terrace every morning and it was fresh and tasty. Coffee delivered to room at any time of day free. Free shuttle into Ubud which made it so easy to get around. We had a reflexology massage which was outstanding and so cheap. The staff were so friendly, couldn’t do enough for you. We had a monkey on our terrace one morning too. Never been anywhere else like it. Just outstanding. Much better than staying in central Ubud wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this lovely place.

We stayed for 6 nights in Alam Shanti and just wished we had stayed longer! We had a lovely big room with a balcony overlooking the gardens where we had breakfast most days. Breakfasts were generous and very yummy, with lots of options - but we could not go past the banana pancakes! Service was fantastic and all the staff were very friendly! Afternoon tea was served each day and there are plenty of good restaurants nearby. The main street of Ubud is only a short walk away and they also offer a free shuttle service. We can’t wait to come back!

Wonderful traditional place away from the busy and noisy streets of Ubud. Alam Shanti is a hidden geem Surrounded by nature and is perfect if you search for a secluded place to spend your holidays. All the rooms are very spacious, the bed is huge, the breakfast is served of your terrace and you can enjoy it with a beautiful garden view! The staff is very friendly and always ready to help. I and my husband also too a massage at their own studio and it was exceptional good! We will definitely come back here again.

Returned to Alam Shanti after eleven years and it is still magical. We stayed this time in Gangga and Yamuna, with the lovely private pool. The beds were comfortable and the amount of space in the rooms and on the terraces is marvellous. As always here, the bathrooms are such a highlight. Alam Shanti is a lovely tranquil spot to return to after the intensity of Ubud; it has a feeling of romantic history about it, even though it is only a couple of decades old. Lovely breakfasts and wonderful staff.
