Arequipa, Peru
I hadn't stayed in Madrid for years so finding a central hotel from the huge choice available was something of a hit-or -miss affair. I read reviews and the Atlántico seemed to attract a lot of positive comment.
I was not to be disappointed.
Its location is perfect, situated on Gran Vía at the Callao end, right where all the main shops are, including lots of clothing shops. It's just a few metres from Callao Metro station and not much further to Gran Vía Metro.
I was allocated a room on the 7th floor, looking on to Gran Vía. When I opened the door, I couldn't believe the amount of space compared with so many other city centre hotels elsewhere in the world. The bed was huge, the wardrobe when opened revealed 18 coat hangers (that must be a record!), a big safe to take laptops plus a couple of dressing gowns. The external shutters were electrically operated and all worked smoothly and flawlessly.
The bathroom was equally spacious with twin His and Hers hand washbasins plus a bath with shower over. There was copious hot water - and more towels than you know what to do with!
I never take breakfast in hotels because I prefer to find local cafes where you can immediately engage in local life. But breakfast is available at a sensible price in the Atlántico.
I shall definitely be returning in the near future, this time accompanied by my wife who will love this hotel.
Note that I booked direct rather than using hotel booking websites.

The hotel is located on la Gran Via, for a city dweller this is the place to be. Great for shopping and restaurants. Transport is easy cabs or the subway. The staff in the hotel was very pleasant and there to attend the guests for their needs. The building is old but in superb condition the balcony at the top by the bar gives a great view and when the weather cooperates (most of the time in Spain) you will enjoy a drink or coffee high above.

The breakfast was the only draw back as it is simple and lacking of selection but being on la Gran Via means you go out and just around the corner you will find numerous places that can make up for it.

The rooms were very nice with double glazing and shutters so sleep in or nap in the afternoon will block out light and sound.

Really nice place and highly recommended.

An excellent hotel, with like most buildings in Madrid, architectural exterior, yet internally modernised to a very high standard.
The beds were very comfortable, bathroom and toilet recently modernised with a powerful shower and beautiful soft towels. The room was also very spacious with modern balcony doors and electric shutters. Surprisingly when the balcony doors were shut you could not here a sound from the very busy street below.
There is also a very nice rooftop terrace complete with bar.
The downside is the breakfast. Whilst it may have been adequate, the absence of a restaurant means there are no professional chefs in the kitchen, resulting in the hot meals being cooked by the same person who serves at the rooftop bar.
For instance I like my eggs American style ‘over easy’. What you get is an egg well cooked at the base and raw on top, somewhat nervy eating these.

We deeply apologize for not having a restaurant and for not exceeding your expectations regarding this subjet. I choose Hotel Atlantico for its prime location and 4 star status. That said it was disappointing and I will not be going back. It is located on the main super touristy strip of Calle Gran Via which lacks any neighborhood charm. Centrally located but next to an H&M and Burger King. Ease of location is one thing but the area just wasn’t great to stay in unless you want to go to big mass chain stores. Area also lacked good restaurants. The staff was very lackluster- the front desk is run 24/7 by older men who were not friendly what so ever. I stayed 3 nights and 4 days during that whole time the wifi would not work. It showed full bars but would not actually work, extremely slow, nothing streaming would work etc. I asked the front desk twice and they told me it was my phone however I could not get it to work on multiple devices. They were dismissive when I brought it up. The room was very clean and the mattresses were very hard (which I personally like). The room however was dated- there were two wall unit hairdryers that barely worked. Not many channels and only local ones- not one channel was in English and no option to purchase movies, etc. There was no complimentary water, no hot water available and no coffee set up. There was no prices for drinks in mini bar or bottle opener for beers. The room was very basic and lackluster. My room was an interior one with a window facing a wall and had little natural light, very dark. What I disliked most was that as a solo female traveler there was no chain or safety lock in the room. Twice maids came barging in room before 9 am while I was still in bed. My fault for not putting the do not disturb sign up but I thought that they would not come early. I didn’t like how anyone with an key could come in my room at any time. Also my window opener onto a landing that could be very easily accessed by any other rooms also with windows on the landing. I did not feel safe. Anyone could have walked off Gran Via and gone up to to rooms. A key card is not required for elevator and no one checks who comes into the hotel. I saw glowing reviews on this place by people saying it should be a 5 star hotel.... those people have never stayed at a 5 star property then. This was 3 star AT BEST. The only thing I can say positive was it was clean.

We love Hotel Atlantico for many reasons. It is our favorite and only place to stay in Madrid. After many stays we still love it every time. The location is perfect, you can walk everywhere and we did! I can’t say enough about the staff, they are truly the best. This year we stayed several days at the beginning of our trip and we returned for a few days before flying back to the US.
This was a special trip after having to cancel the last 2 years due to COVID. Our daughters joined us and our 2 teen grandchildren. We arrived MAD very early, when we checked in the desk staff remembered me , even commented we had new passports.😍. They had three rooms ready for us even though it was around 9 AM. We had balconies and amazing views of Gran Via. The breakfasts are delicious and the staff works so hard , they really took great care of us. Where we returned for our last few nights, again we got an early check in. The rooms are bright, spotless and large bathrooms with double sinks, Ample closet space, and plenty of toiletries. We had a top floor our first few days, we had a lower floor when we returned, the lower floors have metal shutters keeping the room very quiet from the Gran Via. We love the rooftop terraces, there are two, they have great views of the skyline. Wonderful spot for a drink or snack. As always, service is excellent. I can’t wait to return. Thank you Atlantico for another amazing stay.

Hotel is located in the middle of the theatre and shopping district. Great location for getting outside and shopping, walking, eating. Quick walk to the palace and other historic sites. Hotel staff was very helpful and gave us excellent restaurant recommendations including calling the restaurant to book our reservation. The only issue we encountered was parking. There is none at the hotel and the hotel staff does not offer any valet service. Basically you must find public parking, but ensure it supports overnight! The hotel will validate your parking pass and give you a small discount on cost.

This beautiful hotel in the heart of Madrid is close to the action in the heart of the city yet offers quiet interior rooms upon request. This was unquestionably our favorite shower in Spain. Anyone and everyone who works at the front desk is incredibly helpful and friendly!

Unfortunately, the pillows are flimsy, and the mattresses do not offer good support. So this was our only hotel in all of Spain at which we struggled to get a good night’s sleep.

Dear WilliamWillieWilson. Thank you for your nice words with reference your stay at our hotel Hotel Atlántico. I am glad you found the location convenient during your visit. Our staff strives to create a service experience for our guest that is lasting.Thank you for your mention of the hotel staff. I apologize for not exceeding your expectations regarding the pillows. Please note we have 4 pillows on each bed, two different from the other two. Also in each wardrobe you can find other 2 different pillows. So you can choose with differeent types of pillows on the bed. In the wardrobes in rooms have other pillows different to the pillows on the bed in order you can change your pillow if you don't like the comfort of the pillow on the bed. Thus the customer can choose between three different types of pillow. I apologize that in your case none was to your liking. Regarding the mattress, I can assure that it is of an excellent brand and quality, although it is difficult to satisfy all customers with the firmness, as it happened with your case. I really apologize for this inconvenience. Again I apologize for all the inconveniences during your stay and I am very happy to know that overall you have enjoyed your stay with us. I really appreciate your remarks which constantly help us in improving our standards and the service to our guests. We very much hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back soon. Excellent and convenient location in the heart of Madrid.

There are automatic shutters on the windows if you get assigned to one of the rooms in front with Gran Via views.

The room was newly painted and newly refurbished in the old English country look. The bathroom even has a bidet!

Rooms are new and have complete amenities like toothbrushes, slippers et al which most European hotels don't offer anymore.

I can only say good things about this hotel. Centrally located, very clean, comfortable, and amazing staff. The decor is a bit old school but everything is in excellent condition and the attention to detail is one of the best I’ve seen: newer TVs, lots of plugs, robes, slippers, great amenities kit, turndown service. My favorite thing was that you could open the electric blinds from the bed. The terrace was really nice!

The only thing to be aware of is that the hotel is ON Gran Via and, if your room faces that way, you can hear the noise. I didn’t find it terribly cumbersome (it was only noticeable on weekend evenings) but if that is something that troubles you, it may be worth requesting a room that faces the other way.

We enjoyed a 6th floor room that faced Gran Via. I was initially worried about the noise coming from the street, but the windows are extremely soundproof and they also have light dimming metal shutters that can be rolled down. Great location close to many restaurants and shops. Definitely visit the roof top bar-we enjoyed some delicious strong cocktails and snacks while there. There is also quiet seating areas on the top floor. They offer a breakfast that has many choices, and they offer coffee/tea (free) throughout the day. Front desk staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel has lots of marble and bust statues and just has an overall classy look to it. We would stay here again.

Hi Kasireddyr, We had a deluxe room on the 7th floor. It was overlooking La Gran Via. I don’t recall a balcony that we could step out to. Mainly kept the shutters down and went up to the bar which had the terrace and gorgeous view. I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

To go from the airport to the hotel, you can take public transport, there are different ways: - METRO: take line 8 to NUEVOS MINISTERIOS, then change to line 10 to ALONSO MARTINEZ, make a second change to line 5 to CALLAO, The hotel is less than a 5 minute walk. - BUS: From the airport take the AIRPORT EXPRESS destined to the center of Madrid, the nearest stop to the hotel is Plaza de Cibeles. You have to walk about 10-12 minutes to the hotel. But the best alternative is the taxi, it is the quickest and easiest option. For a fixed rate (30 €) you will reach the hotel in about 35 minutes.
