The Mariner Motor Motel is a basic motel in a great location. BUT contrary to what you might have read, it WAS NOT designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
This is not the only computer site to wrongly identify the Mariner Motel in Collingwood as being designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Both the extension to the former Kaufman Furniture Factory and the Mariner Motel were designed by local Collingwood architect Bill Carswell who was influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright.

We read mix reviews of this place and we are ones to take chances and we did. The managers were very nice and accommodating. If you are expecting 5star hotel, you won’t get it but, our room was clean, AC worked, fridge worked and there was hot water! Yes, it needs work, but we knew we just wanted a decent priced place to sleep while on our Ontario road trip. Would stay here again if we travel through.

Stayed with some hesitation at this facility, not reading any of the reviews as it was the only place we could find at the time. We were in fact, pleasantly surprised by our stay. The staff was very friendly, the rooms were exceptionally clean, given the age of the property. I wouldn't want to aching a thing with the decor or the exterior as it is a Frank Lloyd Wright design (learned that after), but oddly enough we made that comment about it's appearance when driving into the parking lot. After the fact I did read some reviews and some comments about the complimentary breakfast - well - it was a continental breakfast and it was as good as any Holiday Inn Express etc. that I have stayed in my travels. And yes, the staff was friendly - who the heck complains about friendly people - geez - unbelievable. Bed comfortable, towels clean, bathroom spotless - I'd come back in a heartbeat.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Do NOT book a stay here! They will SCAM you! We booked online and immediately called to give our credit card info. The person speaking on the phone, which I believe was the owner said “Oh you don’t need to give us your info right now if you have a confirmation through our online booking. You give it to us when you check in.” We showed up yesterday and they told us they didn’t have our booking. We called the owner and he was SO rude and condescending. The daughter at the motel admitted it was their fault and it was their nephew that didn’t take our credit card info. The wife/mother of the owner was equally rude and condescending. I am surprised this place is still in business with the lack of professionalism they have. The girl also mentioned that the booking was cancelled on Friday because they got a 3 night reservation. We luckily found another motel to stay at. The owner at the other motel mentioned that motel owners avoid taking credit card information to secure your room if it’s a one night stay because once they take your credit card information they can’t legally cancel your reservation. This way they can scam you and give it to someone who will be staying for longer. Always demand to give your credit card info for any motel you’re staying at! NEVER stay at Mariner Motel if you want to be treated as a human being.

We made a booking back in August 2020, and when we had to cancel our booking, they said we would get a refund and we keep our confirmation of the refund.
When we noticed on our credit card statement that they had charged us, we called 3 times and email 2 times. When Hotels.com called them, they refused to speak to the agent. WHAY AN AWFUL WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS !!!

I have been going to this hotel for years , and have not been since 2020 covid times. I am sad to say this establishment has gone way down hill. When I arrived I had to hunt down someone to check in. It took 20 mins. The Smell when you get into the halls and then the rooms was attempted to be covered up by plug in air fresheners . The room itself was more tired looking than I recall from last time of being tired then. The bolt lock did not work so we propped a chair at the door for the night. The desk had missed the cleaning as there was old food on it. There was dried rice on the phone. I did not see any signs of bugs. The bathroom had mold around the bathtub and several cracked tiles on the bathroom floor that were loose. The pictures on the website are not accurate for the rooms and the building. I was disappointed as we have been supporting the little businesses over the big corporations in Blue mountain. Sadly I will not stay here again and do not recommend this to anyone. Sorry to the couple that own it .

I checked out a day early with 24 hours notice, and they refused to give me a refund, in exchange I was offered a free night for the next time I stayed there. After I left I received a phone call accusing me of having a guest over night( which I didn't have) and was told I was not getting my free night. They scammed me out of 100$! They offer free Internet, but good luck getting online! And when I arrived to check in I waited for 20 minutes until someone decided to come to the front and help me! I will never return to this hotel! Stay away!!!

I foolishly booked a business trip here, sight unseen, last fall based on all of the glowing reviews, and the Mariner's proximity to the local hospital. The Mariner's website spoke of "European charm" and warm hospitality. I can honestly say it is one of the worst dumps I have ever stayed in, and that's saying something!

When I checked in around 9:00 pm, there were no staff members to be found. Someone finally appeared about 10 minutes later. My gut reaction was to cancel the reservation, but it was late, and I thought, "How bad can it be?" When I reached my room, I was sorry that I hadn't followed my initial instincts. Far from charming, the decor of the tiny room was tired and dated, with generous amounts of packing tape holding both the air conditioner, and some of the panelling, in place. The room was hardly oozing "European elegance", as stated on their website! Trust me, the Mariner is nostalgic only if you have a thing for prison movies. The bedspread appeared to be the original from opening day back in the 50's, and the linens were thread bare, at best. The place was dark, cold, and creepy. All it needed was Jack Nicholson, an axe, and a little, "Heeeere's Johnny!"

Early next morning, I found the restaurant section deserted, with nothing but a large sink full of dirty dishes to greet me. There was no sign of any free Continental breakfast, or any other guests for that matter. I understand that the management has changed recently, and the poor quality of the hotel reflects that. If you are looking for bargain basement accommodations, this is your place. If not, take some good advice, and stay somewhere else. The glory days of this disaster are long gone!

We had a wonderful visit to Collingwood, staying at the Mariner Motor Hotel. Great service, very clean and well kept, wonderful staff, a nice little breakfast room, and a kitchenette available to all with microwave, coffee, tea and cutlery available to all, 24 hours a day, included (along with continental breakfast)with the room rate! Couldn't be beat and highly recommended!
