This is an iconic hotel of Toronto. I came to the ballet and forgot to make reservations and at the last minute all my choice hotels were booked. So I ended up here as a last choice.
Must confess that when I first saw it, I was dismayed by its appearance until I stepped in and was greeted by Megan, a very pleasant young lady. I requested a first floor room(no elevator). I was told these rooms have no A/C. I asked:does it have a fan? Yes. I’ll take it. The room was not that little, private bath and windows!!! Very important to air the place. Ran out and bought plenty of room freshness paraphernalia. Although we are in a heat wave, it was a very cool room.
They should get rid of the carpet and place laminated floors instead.

It is a very basic hotel. They provided 2 soaps, towels in the bathroom(need to bring your own toiletries). No hair dryer. A fan, Big flat TV, a table and two chairs, Full size bed. Drawers. Night table with lamp(that is not working).

For a night it was not bad.

I discovered a new place through my window-Esra’s. I reviewed in another post.
The hotel is a few blocks from Younge-Dundas Sq Downtown Toronto.

I saw plenty of young people checking in for the upper floors.

We were sceptical of staying at this hotel. It was literally the last “resort”. Not finding anything reasonably priced at the last minute, booked this through CAA. Once we got over ourselves being put off by entering the same entry as the strip club, we were pleasantly greeted at the front desk. Our room was old, but clean, well painted, and had lovely sheets! Happily noted that the bed also had bed bug protection. It took almost ten minutes for hot water to reach our 2nd floor room, but otherwise it was a quiet and peaceful stay.

What can I say? You get what you pay for. I didn't read the small print and somehow missed this hotel is ABOVE A STRIP CLUB. Lol. I unfortunately was there on a Friday night and of course, the music was thudding until 4am. I probably slept about 3 hours.

But hey, maybe I should have read the small print. But just be aware, it's very noisy.

Staff were lovely and friendly when I was there. A couple of strippers walked into reception when I checked in which was an interesting experience. Took me a bit by surprise.

Room was pretty basic - small table, sink, small window, bed was comfy. Nothing to write home about but then I barely paid anything so I'm not sure what I was expecting.

Stayed there before my morning flight to Saskatoon. Because it’s just an one night stay in Toronto, I was looking for cheap hotels in Toronto, then I found this one. Okay, where do I begin, the location was bad. I found homeless and sketchy people everywhere. It’s also located right above a strip club, yeah a strip club. It’s so loud at night. Very unfriendly staff. The wake up call was the most unprofessional way ever, like literally they came to my door and knocked. Save your money, go somewhere else!

They had a rat in my room, and it was chewing in the room at night. it ran around, and I saw it. big, black and white, with a long tail. They tried to tell me it might be a mouse, but I can assure you it was a rat. they wouldn't even give me a refund for the one night I asked for. STAY AWAY!!!!!!! HORRIBLE

I am 21 years old (i love adventure) and traveling alone. The hotel is too expensive for what it offers. Let me explain: In truth even $ 1 would be too expensive.

Good points:
- RELATIVELY pleasant staff.
- For the most rowdy of you: Striptease club with dirty girls around the hotel at night.

Bad points:
- Striptease club with dirty girls around the hotel at night.
- Very sketchy neighborhood
- Unsafe atmosphere
- Too expensive
- Absurd regulations concerning visitors
- Cold room, no windows, noisy
- A LOT OF BEDBUGS WHO WANT TO EAT YOU COMPLETELY (SUPPORTING PHOTOS)
- A COACKROACH IN THE BATHROOM

I spent two nights in this hotel. The second I did not sleep to avoid being eaten by bed bugs and I still was eaten.

See the pictures and make your choice.

Hi there readers ... PLEASE DO NOT listen to any bad reviews about this place ...
Filimores has made my stay in Toronto very comfortable .....
The Management here is absolutely out of this world ... The front desk staff, YOU couldn't ask for better ... The cleaning ladies are funny and polite all the way ... The rooms and hotel are as clean as any other and ever perhaps cleaner as I've seen the staff take very good care on how they up keep their property, including EXCELLENT security that makes this place a very CLEAN, quite and safe place to stay ...
I would recommend any traveller or business person to stay here ...
Location is fantastic and about 5 min walk to the Eaton Centre and all amenities, like Subway, restaurants, bars etc ... So for my ending ... WHY pay $150 per night to be told to leave @ 11:00 AM in the morning for less than a 12 hour stay when you can come here @ Fillmores Hotel for a little bit more money and stay for the whole week with all the same accommodation ...
If I was YOU, I'd come and try it out and see for yourself ... YOU won't be disappointed
I myself am a professional and a business owner and have stayed in every hotel you can possibly think of. Honestly, in my opinion, this is a hotel of people,
NOT snobs ... BIG BONUS ... Come check it out for yourself and make your own educated decision today .....
Don't let the area fool you. You'll find the homeless on every street corner of Toronto, so why would this be any different?
Thank you Filmores, I will most definitely stay at your hotel again and will highly recommend it to anyone I meet. Thank you for the safe and quiet stay ....
Until next time

B.Fair

A friend and I booked this at the last minute as it was close to our evening plans and other hotels were sold out. The price was very reasonable, and the pictures showed the rooms being very basic - almost like those hotels where people can also rent by the week there. There is a strip club downstairs, but the noise did not travel from that.

We booked a 'large double' (queen) and got a double. The room was very basic, but clean. However, the bedspread had what looked like dried ejaculate in many spots (room 221, I think it was). It was so gross that we had to remove it. It was an economy sleep, no frills bed. Front desk staff were very nice. We felt out of place staying here, but it has a kind of skeezy charm. Would potentially return.

If you are a bunch of guys traveling about and don't mind a strip club on the first floor, and the smell of cigarettes if your window is open, then this is the place for you. Honestly, the rooms are fine, nothing fancy, they are clean and it is walking distance to downtown. I was going to give a higher rating as check in was fine, front desk guy was friendly. But we had to check out at 6:00 am due to a bus schedule and there is the issue of a $50 key deposit; Gerard told me I can charge it and he would refund it upon check out. This didn't happen, different guy at desk, hands me a $50 Canadian bill. I explain I'm leaving Canada now and want it back on my card. He said he couldn't do it and I would have to wait a few hours...really? I'm catching a bus now. So, really unhappy about that as I didn't have time to exchange the bill until we got back to New York... And they only gave me $23!!!

....and when I saw the last couple of reviews I had to put in my own 2 cents.

I have been here for three weeks already while I look for an apartment in town. I am so happy I found this place. The price is so much better than other hotels downtown, I nevver would have been able to afford to stay at any of them for this long.....and I never would have found the apartment I'm moving into on Friday.

There aren't any bugs....the rooms are really clean and well kept.I've been in two different rooms and I haven't had any problems like that.
the neighbourhood ain't great but it isn't much different than the rest of the Downtown that I've seen when apartment hunting. But I haven't had any problems here....it's so quiet and the staff keep it safe.
The only real complaint I would have is that I got woken up a few mornings( I like to sleep in) when they were redoing the walls and putting in new carpets.....but it looks so much better and everyone was so nice about everything I feel bad saying anything.

The staff are great and always try to be helpful with any problems or questions....they really seem to care about the guests.

I don't know what some of the other people writing here were expecting for these prices but I think this is a great bargain and I was really really lucky I found it.

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who needs a cheap place for a few days or a few weeks.
