Excellent, new furnished apartments are only 20 meters from the Costambar beach. Fast Internet (WiFi) and big pool. It is close to golf club and tennis court. It is located in the gated community Costambar in Puerto Plata. In walking distance of several restaurants, beach cafes, a store and a pharmacy. There is a golf club, SPA and a tennis court in walking distance too. Guest Access: - Free Wifi - Free change of bed linen and towels - every 3 days - Shared washing machine The apartments are located in an area with infrastructure and at the same time no in the city. That is ideal for a beach holiday. You can try active entertainment, such as Ocean World or 27 waterfalls, or cultural: the fortress built by Columbus, Amber Museum and Botanical Gardens high on the mountain.

We are a well traveled family, who are not new to the Dominican Republic, We are from Miami and in fact own a vacation home in Santiago DR an hour away. With that being said I would like to lend my perspective to this hotel’s review. We have stayed several times in the all- inclusive resorts around Puerto Plata; they are safe, crowded and are good at meeting the US tourist’s needs and expectations. The problem is that they can get to be expensive on an extended visit or with accompanying family and friends. Eight of us decided to go to the beach for a few days, and after reading several reviews decided to give this place a try.
My views:
24 hour security is very good. ( you will feel more than safe)
bedrooms are separated with their own doors (beds are adequate, and very clean)
kitchen was ample (small stove and ¾ size fridge) no microwave
we never drink the water and a (5) gal. supply runs just 50 pesos (I have paid $5 at the all-inclusive)
accommodations are ample and considered very good in Dominican standards
The whole hotel and pool were very clean (open until 10pm)
The internet functioned well. (we had several computers, phones and I pads running 10mbs download speeds) (think DR not US)
There is always water (cold and hot) and electricity
We were amused at the small size of the flat screen TV but it worked well, with enough cable channels
Staff was accommodating and friendly
Restaurants we visited were more than adequate and most delivered (including the general store)
It is only a stone’s throw to the public beach which was clean, calm, and very picturesque.
One of our accommodations had A/C which I prefer, but our other guests without air did not complain (at night it gets cool and breezy and there are large fans in the rooms
The rooms had balconies to relax enjoying that first cup of espresso or that last Presidente
you need transportation to get to the main parts of town
Summary:
If you want a great vacation spot, safe, with a beautiful beach away from the tourists, and can live with accommodations adequate and clean but not fancy this is your place. The prices are great and all of our party, even after several days hated to leave and vowed to return.

I stayed here without having done much research on where best to stay in Puerto Plata. I was here for 2 nights. The apartments are brand new and very clean. No AC (didn't expect there to be) but very strong ceiling fans. Although I didn't use it, there is a pool in the complex.
My one complaint is that the complex is very close to the beach and in a gated community so there wasn't much going on. Probably not an issue if you have a car (I did not). While they have a guy with a scooter who sits outside ready to overcharge you for a fare, I prefer walking to the security gates - la entrada (about 800km) and catching a moto into town.
There are a few "restaurants" around. And there is a little bodega that you can walk to (pretty close to the entrance) where you can buy groceries.
Im not sure I would have preferred staying at a place in Playa Dorada. I went to the beach there and there wasnt much going on there either... I actually preferred Playa Costambar. Felt a bit more local and authentic. This place is great for families or couples who want some quiet, relaxed time by the beach.

This was our second time visiting Apartments Costambar, it was even better than the first time.
Rooms still spotlessly clean and well-maintained. Staff worked hard to meet our every need. Pool was clean. Loved being steps away from the beach. There is a place to wash your feet as you come in, so you don't track sand into your apt.
Wifi is very strong. Lots of tv channels to watch if you speak Spanish. We only found one English channel...

Estrella del Mar was a beachside restaurant - very clean and reasonably priced.
We walked to the local grocery store - Yenny's - and they kindly delivered all the food to our place at no extra charge.
The room also had a menu to an Italian restaurant - O Sole Mio - they delivered a delicious and generous meal to our door. Took about 45 min to deliver.
Just wish there was an easier way to get to Puerto Plata - the taxis charge lots when they see a tourist coming...!

The apartments are located 20 meters from the beach. Not far from Oceanworld. I did not see a restaurants nearby but there is a beach hut near. They have 24 hours guard. Unfortunately no safe parking so you park the car on the street. No airco but ceiling fans. Warm water and basic bathroom. They have a kitchen however only 2 small pans so dont plan on making a big dinner. As people may want to cook it has no strikes or salt and pepper and many cooking utinsiles. For the price a decent deal. It was clean.

Swimming pool and compound cleaned and secured. The entire Apartment is cleaned. Cool and hot water works great. The location is few yards from the beach. I will recommend that the television be changed to color instead of black and white.

Hello Samriana, Thank you very much for your review but there is something wrong. If you see photo of living-room in our apartment, you will see flat LCD TV. We stayed for 5 nights in Oct-14.
Neat, clean and newly constructed apartment. Right in front of the beach(although you don't have beach view!!). 24hrs security and in a fairly safe neighborhood. We felt comfortable walking from restaurants after 10PM. Backup generators kicked in less than 5 mins after power outage. We stayed in a unit that has AC. You definitely need it from May-Oct.
Main road is too far to walk. You need to take a taxi everywhere. It is a pain dealing with local taxi company. Many tours(scuba diving, horseback riding, etc) we booked had free pickup but they didn't know this place because its new. They picked us from the main road and we had to rely on taxi to reach there. If you are a bit adventurous, you can ride the moto taxi for 50-60RD.

Very clean apartment, everything look really new. Great pool with shaded areas and plenty of sun loungers with padded cushions available. Owner very helpful and friendly, the only slight downside was the bedroom was quite small but more than adequate.

we stayed only for one night because leaving D.R. next day from POP airport
within the area of costambar it is easier to ask the taxidriver than anyone else to find the street/place
stuff was very helpful, anything we asked for, we got
we found a very nice furnitured appartement, clean with A.C., cold and hot water, kitchen with most important dishes and cooking dishes

Good place, met all our needs for young couple. Grocery store close by. Beach was a short walk. Swimming pool on grounds. Quarters had a room, bathroom, kitchen (you do need your own cleaning supplies if you want to reuse dishes) & living area with tv, couch, table, chairs. It was nice & I'd stay there again. Good way to save money with acceptable living conditions.

Excellent place to unwind and relax. Very clean. Steps to the beach. Gated with security. Felt very safe. Based on other places stayed this trip, it is worth twice the price. A true gem in a quiet area close to everything you need. You will pass Jenny's on the way in. Jenny's is the local grocery store plus money exchange place (best exchange rate found so far). The local restaurants clean the beach daily and are very friendly. Lounge chairs are available for 150 pesos. Mariano at the Costambar was super. He told us a lot and had answers for all questions. The room was comfortable, beds ok, and a nice balcony. Did not use the pool. Liked the ocean better. The staff was the most customer oriented that I have seen in a long time. When they see you coming toward the gate, they move as quickly as is needed to beat you to the gate and open it for you. If you are carrying anything, they will gladly take it to the room for you. Extras, like blankets, are available for a tip. Would definitely go back again.
