We stayed during the peak season on a Sunday and Monday nights. There are no Marriott's or Hilton's in these beach communities in Maine, so we did a little research and found this. We booked a room with a patio with a view. We were in room 310 on the first level with a view of the river. Besides the steep walk way, it was nice. You can see they have been doing work to the property, the lobby is very modern. The rooms remind me of a Fairfield Inn room, 2 beds, desk, chair, mini fridge. The rugs looked new, and the bedding also looked new.

We arrived earlier than planned, we knew we couldn't check in at 11AM on a Sunday, we went in to ask if it was OK to meet one of our friends at the Inn and leave one of the cars. That is when we met Jon, who was wonderful. He told us we could use the pool while we waited. When we mentioned we were going to meet a friend then drive to the town center of Ogunquit, he suggested the trolly system. He told us it was exact change $2 per person each way. He said it stopped in front of the Inn and that it would make a loop and then take us to the center of town about a 20 minute ride each way depending on traffic and the number of stops. It was perfect for our needs. When we came back we sat in the lounge chairs and just relaxed and took in the view.

Every person we came in contact with was very polite and friendly. We spoke to the housekeeper, the room inspector, the houseperson and front desk. One of the things that caught my eye was the houseperson who cleaning the outside lights by the doorways and sidewalks, I asked him about it and he smiled and said we like to keep them clean. You don't normally see that being done everyday, I was impressed.

There was a breakfast, we had other plans we didn't try it out, it was similar to a Fairfield Inn or SpringHill style breakfast. It had waffles, eggs, pastries, cereals. When we checked in they mentioned a few restaurants and shops that gave discounts if you showed your room keys.

Johnngisfun,

It was a pleasure reading your feedback on your recent here with us at the Ogunquit River Inn! I am very pleased to hear that you had a wonderful stay and that you were able to have personable interactions with multiple members of our staff! They work very hard to keep the property clean and to make sure each and every guest is happy and satisfied. We take great pride in our hotel and grounds, so we make sure everything is in order for our guests! Roughly two years ago the hotel became under new ownership. With that change, a major renovation took place. Each guest room received new granite topped furniture, new sink countertops, new mattresses, new chairs and couches, new carpet, fresh paint, new a/c units and new flat screen televisions. Adding to the room renovations we also did a complete redo of the lobby, adding the waterfall and fish tanks. We replaced all flooring, all deck boards and put on new roofs! I am very happy that you enjoyed your accommodations and thoroughly enjoyed your stay. We do hope to see you again!

Best Wishes,
Management

A very comfortable, quiet room with above average breakfast included. Very friendly, polite staff. Large grassed area adjacent to Ogunquit River with spectacular view of the estuary and wildlife. Swimming pool. Very quiet although near a busy road. Outdoor furniture, chaises and garden chairs with 3 bar-b-q's by river. It was extremely hot when we were visiting and it was a challenge to find shade. Mosquitoes were quite pesky. Would definitely return and recommend this hotel to others.

From the moment I checked in, I had a wonderful experience at Ogunquit River Inn in Wells, Maine. I can't say enough about the great staff starting with the Manager, Heather. I was assisted with my luggage both when I arrived and departed. Being a senior citizen it was very important to me. I had a beautiful, comfortable room with a great view of the river.

The view is gorgeous overlooking the lake. However, if you cannot manage steps, this is not the place for you. We were one level below the main entrance, which meant going down steps outside before heading in. I imagine that these steps could get pretty icy as we go into the winter, but for us they were wet with rain and not a big deal.

The balcony overlooks the lake and is so peaceful and serene. However, you will be sharing your balcony with two other rooms, which was a little disappointing.

Breakfast is very good and the woman running the breakfast area is one of the friendliest and happiest people I've ever seen in this position, even on the day where there was a huge crowd and she barely had a moment to pause.

The rooms are very comfortable and clean. Despite the construction going on in the front of the building, the sound never carried to the back or disturbed us in any way. However, our room was directly below the breakfast area and we could clearly hear people walking around and especially pulling out their chairs. Avoid this room if possible.

The Inn is just minutes from Perkins Cove, Shore Road, Ogunquit Beach and everything you might want to see. It's nice that it's just outside of the hustle and bustle, but unfortunately that means that it's too far to walk and you have to go in and pay for parking. I read that there is a trolley you can take, but there didn't appear to be one running this time of year.

Awesome accommodations overall. I would happily stay there again.

Here is a portion of the letter we sent to the owners shortly after our stay. It says it all.

After much web research, I was very excited to find your “newly renovated” hotel. I was impressed with the renovations the photos on the site showed. I could not wait to take my daughter and granddaughters on our annual girls’ summer getaway. You can imagine my dismay upon our arrival. I cannot even begin to tell you how disappointed we were with what was our first and will absolutely be our ONLY experience at the Ogunquit River Inn. After arriving in our room, we checked the beds and one of them clearly had not been changed. After making your front desk clerk aware, we were relocated to another room (221). This room was no better than the first! There was a strange smell, almost skunk-like, coming from the air conditioner. Upon further inspection, much dirt and mold could be seen in the vents. The electrical panel was left wide open and could not be closed; causing a hazard each time we left the room. The bathroom was in complete shambles. There was mold around the tub and shower. There was a large crack in the tub that would depress every time we stepped near it, the water had a strange odor and the faucet handles, shower curtain rod and toilet seat were loose and wiggly. The fire sprinkler head in the bathroom was so rusted that I don’t think it would have gone off had there been a fire. However, I’m not sure we would have even known if there was a fire. We found evidence of where a fire/smoke alarm once was, but could not find a single fire/ smoke alarm anywhere in or near our room. When we were shorted towels, we attempted to call the front desk to request more, but discovered that the phone I watched the front desk clerk replace, still did not work. No attempt was made to replace this phone when we made your staff aware. My daughter would not even allow her two girls to swim in the pool. The water was green and cloudy. This was a great disappointment to them.

Hi Theresa Zaborowski

Thank you for your comments, and we appreciate you taking the time to provide your detailed feedback. First and foremost, we do sincerely apologize for the inconveniences of the issues you mentioned during your stay with us. We are consistently working to improve our property every single day, including ensuring all items or issues that are reported are property logged in our maintenance log.

The ownership changed in December 2014. I will say that the total bedroom was renovated including new carpeting, mattresses, linens, paint, furniture, appliances, and more. However only the toilets and bathroom flooring, and new paint was done this past winter. As you may have seen when browsing our website, we try to accurately mention what is done each year on our website

The phone was replaced when you had initially called, but I believe ultimately the issue was found in the actual phone line and not in the phone. The second time when you alerted the staff we did not have a maintenance employee on staff so we were not able to resolve the issue.

The housekeeping issues is inappropriate and we are embarrassed you and your family had to walk into an unclean room at check in. I’m glad we were able to move you immediately however it sounds like the next room didn’t meet your expectations. The housekeeping attendant in charge of your room was spoken to immediately after having to switch your room. The cleanliness issues have all escalated and reported to the housekeeping supervisor. The AC vents are routinely cleaned by our housekeeping. The fire sprinkler systems are also routinely tested, and since the ownership change this past December we have not updated or replaced the fire sprinkler heads. These are in full functioning order as we recently had our quarterly test from our Fire monitoring company. The way these work is that they melt the sprinkler head, and then pressure is released releasing the sprinkler head and spraying out the water.

I am sincerely sorry for the issues you experienced. We have taken all of your feedback and have reported to the appropriate personnel within the hotel so we can improve our services.
