I have traveled to many all inclusive resorts all over the Carribean and this one is average. Not a 4-5 star by no means. Solid 3 at best. I traveled the first week of June 2018.

Pros - Weather was amazing!!! Good food and excellent selection. Great coffee at Mikes and worth waiting until it opens or an after dinner coffee. Grounds are beautiful and very clean. No food outside restaurants so no birds dive bombing anywhere. Water in shower was always hot. AC worked great. Bedding and furniture was clean and new, at least in our suite anyhow. Foam party was a blast! Hammocks are fantastic! Staff working endlessly to clean the beach for travellers...these are the guys that should really get the tips! Room service burgers were great! Wifi great.

Cons - West Jet Vacation transportation terrified us all on the drive to resort, drove like a maniac! If you want to hear the DJ until 1-2am EVERY night do not get a room facing the swim up bar pool. Didn't get one night of sleep the entire time we were there. The beach unfortunately was a nightmare... Mother nature is ticked off! Take a trip to Isa for the day...crystal clear water. Fridge in room never got cold with no controls inside. Didn't get replenished daily no matter what kind of a tip you left each day...so we stopped leaving money in our room. Room didn't get cleaned two of the days but wasn't life altering. Water from the tap smelled like sewer. Brushed teeth with bottled water but showering was a pleasure with aroma of poop. The price for items at the gift shop were outrageous! $22US for two bags of chips...gulped and just paid because we wanted some snacks in our room. Everyone looking for a tip...honestly it got so exhausting. If you go for lunch and leave your pool lounger be prepared to fight for it back! Seriously had someone throw our stuff to the side when we went for lunch.Swim up bar is packed and no one seems to leave...to use the washroom i mean. Be prepared to have your bathing suite turn a nice yellow colour due to the amount of urine...BARF! Not hotel issue but more of a people issue. Changed pools after day 3 and didn't have an issue after that. Monkeys, parrots, toucan etc all walking around to take pictures with...to the tune of $80 US for 5 photos. My goodness they were expensive and weren't even that great of a photos.

All in all we were looking for warm and we certainly got it! Would not go back to this hotel. I think we are done with Mexico...so North American. Not like it use to be 15-20 years ago. Miss those days.

We lament knowing that there were some aspects of your stay that were not completely satisfactory, Rest assured that your feedback will be shared with the pertinent departments in order to assure the proper follow up did you report any of these details to anyone of our staff in order for us to help and verify all the details as our staff has a list of minibar refill which is done daily unless the rooms have a no disturb sign and also along with the housekeeping it is the same, regarding the detail you mention of the pool it is always important to vertify exacly why this situation happends and not assure it is due to urine,as you may know our pools manage diffrent types of cymicals in order to follow up a correct hygiene procedure imagine how many people would be in the same situation and was the only case from you this can either be due to painted hair or type of material of the cloth ; furthermore, please receive our most sincere apologies if these details affected your experience. My wife and I stayed at the Ocean Coral & Turquesa with our two teenage sons the first week of April. We booked the hotel over three months in advance and requested third floor rooms beside each other with our two teenage boys staying in the room beside ours. When we arrived at the front desk we received exactly what we requested. My wife and I upgraded to the Privilege service only maintaining our same room beside the boys. This was the best money spent on our entire vacation. It allowed us to make reservations each night for dinner without standing in a lineup and we were allowed to include our boys in the dinner reservation even though they did not have the privilege service. If you are traveling with teenagers who don’t want to spend every minute at the resort by your side this upgrade for the parents is the way to treat yourselves and save some money for the vacation.
The Onix lounge was a great place to spend a romantic time together enjoying a good drink or two on the terrace listening to the waves breaking at the shore in privacy.
The Privilege beach was great. Good drink service and there was always a palapa unoccupied to relax in.
Pools: As the resort was at 100% capacity this week it was tough to get a lounger around the pool unless you got up around 7 am to choose your spot leaving your pool towel on it. We tried this once and enjoyed the entertainment and activities but realized we preferred the serenity of the privilege beach.
The Restaurants: Fussion (Privilege Only) – Our favorite for food and service.
Ritratto D’Italia – Amazing risotto, slow service but expect that and enjoy the evening.
Hacienda Los Girasoles – Every dish was delicious, great fun.
Villa Marina – Great ribeye steaks. Huge!
Sensai – Great show with the Habbachi table, food was good but the least of our favorites.
Casa del Mar(buffet) – Best place for lunch, tried dinner once, just ok.
The Score – Cheese burgers and pizza very good.
The staff were fantastic and they really made our holiday special. Always friendly and very helpful. Just smile and say “hola” as you pass any staff and I guarantee you get a smile and friendly greeting back. Our oldest son left his expensive computer back pack with many valued personal items inside by his pool chair. Hours later when he realized he had left it he returned to discover it gone. He went to the front desk to report it and they took his information and told him that no one had returned it as of then. I went to the privilege desk which is where to go for lost and found. An extremely caring and helpful staff member named Saskia assured us she would do every thing she could to recover my sons belongings. Within an hour we got a call from the staff that his backpack was turned in by a pool staff member. Every thing was there including his flip flops in a plastic bag. Thank you again Saskia and staff.
This was our second visit to The Ocean Coral and Turquesa and they do listen to our comments because every thing was improved; the food, the drinks, the service. They now have dance parties on the beach and around the pool bar with dj. It is a great resort for people with young kids or teenagers. The party is always shut down between 11 and 12. If you want it quieter in the evenings request your room at either the north or south end of the resort.
My wife and I have already planned our return to the OCT but this time without the boys and we will go for the privilege room this time. For value we believe the OCT is your best option for the type of vacation I described.
Special thanks to our most memorable management and staff: Gabriella(manager), Saskia(guest services), Roberto(waiter), Matilde(bartender),Martin(front desk).

Room:
When we arrived to the hotel we were upgraded to the Master Suite Ocean View for free!!! The suite was AMAZING! There were two rooms in the suite which had a living room in addition to dining area and the bedroom. There were also two restrooms. The restroom in the bedroom smelled to seaweed and sewer. We had the beach as our backyard. There was a jacuzzi outside and an outdoor shower. At first we had trouble getting the jacuzzi to work and we did notify the front desk 3 times however they didn't do anything about the jacuzzi. We figured out how to work the jacuzzi on our own. The water temperature in the room to shower was either way too hot or too cold. The wifi signal is weak in the hotel room.

Pool and Beach:
The pools were great however they were too cold due to the cool weather in February. There are 3 pools with different atmospheres. The first pool is by the "privilege" area and is quiet. The second pool has a swim up bar and a dj playing music which makes it the loud pool. The third pool is more of the family pool. The beach had A LOT of seaweed and prevented us from going in the water. If you are looking for a beautiful clean beach this is NOT the resort. The seaweed does smell. There should be more booths to get beach towels because there was only one beach towel booth.

Food:
There are about 5 different food options every night that don't require reservations. This causes people to line up at the restaurant every night which makes it seem like a competition. The restaurants all have about the same schedule. If you're hungry from 3pm-6pm there is no place to eat unless you go to the Coffee shop and have an unappetizing sandwich or a dessert. This resort should really have a 24 hour place to eat. The food at the Mexican restaurant was very bland and lacked salt. The food portions were also very small. The route 66 american restaurant was okay. The best food was at the buffet. There is also a dress code for certain restaurants which is silly because this is a resort of course people want to walk around in their shorts and flip-flops.

Drinks:
The drinks were good and not watered down. Your drinks are served in small plastic cups if you order outside at the pool bar. Make a request to get a fancy drink cup instead.

Weather:
The biggest downside which couldn't be helped was rain and chilly weather in February.

Spa:
We had a couples massage for 80 minutes which was great. We were able to use the sauna and thermal waters but the steam room was not working.

Excursion
We went to Tulum and the caverns tour which included lunch. The lunch only offered tacos and was bland. Tulum was amazing and has access to the beach. The caverns were amazing but be prepared to enter cold water.

Staff:
The staff at this resort were very friendly and helpful.

Dear OhsoElla25, We want to thank you for having chosen Ocean Coral & Turquesa as the host for your vacations. We would like to inform you that our restaurants work on a first come first serve basis in order to give everyone the opportunity of dine were preferred. The waiting time for the tables may vary depending on the number of people attending to the restaurant and the reserved tables for the Privilege guests. As for your comments about having a 24 hr place to eat, let us enlighten that the schedules of all of our restaurants are programmed so that our guests can have an option of where to have their meals 24 hrs a day; therefore your comment really surprises us. On the other hand, we are glad to know that despite the mentioned situations that did not match your expectations, you enjoyed our facilities and the service provided by all of our staff. Thank you for taking the time to share your comments and feedback on this site; which gives us the opportunity to evaluate our feedback and continue to improve our facilities and services day by day. We hope to have the opportunity to host you again in the future and hopefully improve your perception of our resort. Best regards, The Ocean Coral & Turquesa Management

As I start my review of Ocean Coral & Turquesa, this is not my first detailed review I have written, nor was this our first all-inclusive. This is actually our 17th trip to Mexico in the last 15 years. Most have been via Apple Vacations to 5 golden or 6 golden apple resorts.

This review is from our view points, take it as it is, some may agree or disagree with us. I will make comparison reference to Palace Resorts and Now Jade as these were recently traveled and carry a full 6 golden apple rating! This review is kind of long, but touched on a few things, that we were never able to find info regarding while doing reading of reviews before our trip.

Road seems to be a big concern for people. It was being worked on, it is 2Km long, took about 12-15 mins to travel down from highway to resort. I did not really find it of much concern—its Mexico—we have potholes that big here in Michigan after a long winter!!!

We stayed from 1/30/14 to 2/10/14. We traveled with 9 people (6 adults and 3 kids-ages 7,8,12). This resort is a great value for what we paid. Traveling from Detroit to Cancun via Apple Vacations.

I did rate this as 4, but there is not an option for 4.5! There were just a few small things that could be improved upon!

We were in Building 1 on the 2nd floor. Our friends paid $10 a day more to upgrade to the 3rd floor. Was it worth it? To them yes! This was not upgrade to Privileged just to higher level floor. We all opted out of upgrading to Privileged as not that much more that would have benefited us.

ROOMS:
Moisture was a concern in our room and was very musty smelling. Fortunately, our room did have a dehumidifier in it and helped greatly! We needed to empty it approx 3 times a day! Personally, we did not like the fact that the A/C and fan shut off after approx 30 mins of no motion. It would be nice if this motion sensor feature could be overridden, so that the air and fan would stay on the entire time. This would help with the moisture problem, as well!! Our friends that upgraded to the 3rd floor did not have as much moisture problem and were never granted the dehumidifier that was requested. Another thing we found slightly annoying is not having a clock in the room. The resort description does list clock with ipod hookup. We kept our phones plugged in, when in room. I do travel with an outlet adapter/night light and we were glad we to have it, as very limited outlets and needed both chargers to stay plugged in. The outlets in the bathroom do shut off when the air goes off. Water and pop were replenish daily. I did have to call a couple times to get more bottle water. Our maid, Margarite (sp) did do a great thorough job and on days we opted to not have cleaned changed out our towels!!

BEACH/POOL:
Yes there is seaweed on the beach. It is the ocean! The resort does attempt to clean it up. They run a tractor up and down just about hourly. Other resorts next door—NOW & Excellence do nothing and just let the seaweed pile up! Pools are very well maintained. Quite pool, activity pool, swim-up bar pool and kids pool. Loungers get taken at beach very quick!

TOWELS:
Now honestly who wants to bring these worn out things home? With suitcase weight restrictions these days who can afford the extra weight!! I can not stand the towel cards. Resorts should have beach towels available all the time for pool/beach use. At this resort, if you bring your wet towels back after 3pm, they only give cards out. Ridiculous, it is a fight to get clean towels between 3pm-6pm. Well sorry, but the pools are open till 8pm and the kids typically swam until at least 6pm. Just let people get the towels as wanted, that is what Palaces Resorts and Now Jade allow! The towel game is in full effect here!! We had to have our (wet) towels out on our chairs by 7am. We did want to sit in a specific area. Loungers could be found thru out if open to sitting in any open spot. The beach has limit loungers, and these are taken quickly in the morning!

PHOTOGRAPHER:
The resort has a few photographers that take family photos thru out the day. With animals and posed pics with kids and families. And these pics are great! **Here is the catch….we went to purchase pics at the end of our stay. No packages offers, no group discounts, no negotiating. $20 a pic! Wow!! With our group we had over 200 pics taken for our stay. We were looking to have all of them just put on a disc. (we had this done at the Palace Resorts last year for $100 for that many pics.) Not gonna happen here!! Instead of making some money by putting pics on a disc, we bought nothing! Which was a bummer since there were some nice pics!! The resort should probably rethink the policies on this and at least make some money! Those discs are all of $1.00!!

WIFI:
This was a big topic of discussion since one of the guys is an IT person!! The wifi worked about half the time! We were hoping for wifi on all the time, so that we would be able to i-message as needed. But instead you always had to log on everytime you wanted to check messages and push email delivery. There was no limit to amount of times logged on. When it did work, it was pretty slow. A couple days it never worked at all! There are a few PC offered in the lobby, if you do not mind sitting there! On the days there was no WIFI, these PC did not work either!

WORK OUT ROOM/SPA:
This room really could use some improving! It has 3 bikes, 3 treadmills, 3 ellipticals and some old worn out weights, in a very tight small room! The picture on website, makes this room appear much larger!! I did attempt the weights a few times. It is extremely hot in the room with no air or fans! This is an area which sets the Palace Resorts a higher rating! A nice running path/trail is located on the outside perimeter of the property. It is 1300m around. We calculated 4 times around to be 3 miles! Spa is small and very worn!

FOOD:
I am not going to go to much into food. Everyone’s taste and expectations are so different!! I will make a few notes here. The Sensai (hibachi) does allow kids. Kids can eat at grills at the first 6pm seating. We did go to the 7:30 seating and the kids ate at their own table, while the adults did sit near them at the hibachi grill. Worked out great, waiters asked us when ordering, the kids thought it was cool to sit by themselves too! Blue Moon is the adults only restaurant. Dress code at these were not strictly enforced! The al a carte restaurants do tend to take 1 ½ hours to complete meals service, which can be a little long with kids. We just kept saying were on vacation! Numerous nightly buffets were set up outside. We did avoid these, since the food can sit for long periods of time, some cheese hardened and bread really hard. Seems the meat is always way overcooked! We did find the pool wait service to be more concerned about picking up cups then actually waiting on guests. Maybe more wait staff and some pool people for pick up. It would have been nice to have an outdoor grill atmosphere for snacks at lunch instead of having to put cover up on to go get lunch. Morning coffee served at lobby bar, self serve or to order cappuccinos. Mikes coffee opens at 9am and was a great hit! Around 9am, a lady walks around pool with a cart of bloody mary’s or mimosa’s! Nice touch! The swim up bar was slightly understaffed in our opinion and could have used more wait staff, as previously mentioned. Alcohol was not watered down—Captain Morgan, Bacardi, Skyy, Absolute & Smirnoff Vodka are the normal, Privledge get other alcohol. Ice was good quality from bags. Blenders are Tropical oasis and make a great drink!! Corona beer was on tap, and pop that was served was Pepsi products on fountain or bottles in the room.

ENTERTAINMENT TEAM:
The entertainment team! “Sexy Chocolate!”, Rodrigo, Oscar! Great job for crazy games!! What an effort put into the evening shows! Long days and Very hard workers!
There is a teen club for those traveling with teenagers. Has pool tables, ping pong with a large patio. Our kids did go get popcorn made for them each afternoon and brought bags back to the pool and passed out! That was quite a hit for the people around us!

The pictures that travelers have posted do a great job of depicting the hotel!

We never got talked to about the timeshare deal, and were not disappointed either!!
We did travel with lots of $1 & $5 bills and tipped regularly. We did not book Privileges and did not really feel that we missed out on anything. I guess if you want to eat right at 6pm then you might want to consider. We typically eat later, so not a big deal for us. So we could have gotten Finlandia Vodka instead of Skyy, that was not worth it to upgrade for us!

As mentioned previously….For the late night party animals –not a lot-- Some Music/Dj out by pool bar, the music stops at 12:30 (not suprised as there are some rooms nearby the pool with disco and ones was ours!! And we could hear the thumping!!)

I did get food poisoning. I believe it was from the cottage cheese. I Vomited violently for an entire afternoon and had belly issues for another day. Thank goodness I travel with Probiotics, and up my dosage really high, and managed to make breakfast the next day! Talking to guests, we did hear of a few other groups that had people get sick! Be cautious what eat, make sure to bring some pepto tabs!!

Even with getting sick, I would recommend this resort. Overall we had a great vacation, enough for all ages to do, if you want to relax, sit at quite pool, if you want activities sit at activity pool!

If anyone has questions regarding this resort.
Please feel free to PM through tripadvisor and I would be happy to answer.

Dear woodside*girl, We are thankful for choosing our resort for your last vacation and for taking the time to post a very thoughtful review about our facilities, services, gastronomic and entertainment offer and our staff, which we consider very helpful for future guests. We also like to thank you for your observations about some aspects of your stay that were not totally satisfactory. Please allow us to inform that since our resort is eco-friendly and certified by ecological institutions, we implemented energy saving devices and motion sensors in the lights, a/a, fans, etc., in our rooms, we lament that this situation caused you inconveniences. In regard to your comment about the clock with iPod hookup, we like to enlighten that this item is only available at rooms when contracting the Privilege package. Regarding the comments about the prices of the pictures, we like to inform that that the Photo Shop is an external business, which is a concession of the resort. The services provided by this concession are not responsibility of OCT; nevertheless we will be more than glad to share your suggestions to their management. In relation to your comment about the gym, we must enlighten that we do count with a/c at this facility and we are working in some improvements to this area. We lament to hear that you present health issues while vacationing with us, however, we must enlighten that the corresponding hygiene procedures related to food preparation are carrying out at our resort and further more we have a consultant whom in regular basis audits the correct follow up of this measures, therefore we cannot dismiss the possibility that your sickness may had a cause beyond our control. We are glad to learn that overall you had a great vacation and found a good value and variety in our offer. Thank you for recommending our resort to the community. We look forward your next visit. Kind regards, The Ocean Coral & Turquesa Management Team

Pool party entertainment ends at 11 to midnight. Lobby music is usually pretty low key and goes til around 11am as well. There is no nightclub or anything like that. One evening the pool party got rained out and they moved it to the lobby. It was pretty fun.
