The Greek island of Kerkyra, also known as Corfu, is the second largest island in the Ionian Sea. The city is full of history, which earned it a UNESCO World Heritage designation. More than 100,000 people live in Corfu.

Corfu has four towns and regions. Corfu Town, North Island, South Island, and Benitses make up the island’s main sections. Corfu Town is the main seaport for the island and is full of tourists.

Benitses is one of the island’s old fishing villages. Just outside of the town is some of the most beautiful scenery on the island, including mountains, waterfalls, and rivers.

The Corfu beaches are the main attraction for the island. Sidari, Glyfada, Dasia, and Messonghi beaches are some of the popular ones.

Corfu International Airport (Airport code CFU) is an easy three kilometres outside of the centre of Corfu. The 30 airlines served by Corfu International Airport fly to and from most major European cities as well as a few Middle Eastern cities, including Tel Aviv.

Multiple low cost carriers fly through Corfu, including Condor, EasyJet, Jet2, Germanwings, Monarch, Thomas Cook, and Thomson Airways. Air Berlin, Viking Airlines, and Thomson Airways fly to the most destinations of the 30 airlines. TUIfly, Air Berlin, Jet2, and EasyJet fly the most frequently. Many flights to and from the island are seasonal, so travellers should make sure that flights are available for planned trips well in advance.
