I specialize in anxiety, depression, ADHD, various forms of addiction, autism, & more. Are your goals oriented towards reducing maladaptive symptoms, identifying the behaviors you wish to engage in, being the person you want to be, and, ultimately, the life you aspire to live? Do you desire change and growth & are willing to put the necessary effort in? As your counselor, I do not effect change; that responsibility belongs to you. I aim to empower you to recognize your innate strengths, develop them further, and effectively use them towards your goals in life.

I specialize in ADHD testing and treatment of Adult ADHD. If you’re like many adults with ADHD, you might identify as an overthinker with a quick mind and strong feelings. And it seems like no matter how hard you try, you feel like people think you’re “scattered,” “too sensitive,” or even a little…“lost.” It feels like everyone else has it all figured out, and you’re left behind––beating yourself up for every little thing you do. You just want to live life without “analysis paralysis,” get organized, recover faster from emotional tailspins, and tackle your inner critic...for good.

After 13 years as a therapist, I have established my specialty in ADHD coaching and therapy.
Tired? Overwhelmed? Falling Apart? Worried God can't use you? Research has shown that ADHD is just as common in adult women as it is in young boys, but most women are misdiagnosed with depression, anxiety, or PMS. Less known characteristics of ADHD are, easily stressed, feeling you will never measure up, struggling to follow through, sleep trouble, relational conflict, emotional dysregulation, trouble remembering the moments in life that really matter, and many others. Maybe you don't have depression/anxiety/PMS. Maybe your brain works in a unique way that will thrive with a few changes to your thinking and your routine.

There are so many of us who have felt like outsiders our entire lives, pretending to be someone else to fit in. Learning to unmask is a scary and also liberating process of accepting who we truly are. Whether you've been formally diagnosed or suspect that you are Autistic or ADHD, you deserve therapy that doesn't expect you to change your brain to reach your goals. We will work together collaboratively to better understand the way your brain works and embrace the differences that make you, you! We will focus on using your natural strengths to help you reach the goals you set for yourself.

If you have ADHD or ADHD adjacent concerns (i.e. OCD, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues), you might find life events to be incredibly overwhelming (even simple work tasks and chores). You're noticing that life events like starting a new job or committing to an academic major might challenge your sense of identity, disrupt your routines, and cause you to question our goals and values. You might find that you're procrastinating, losing track of appointments, and forgetting things you should remember. In cases like this, it’s easy to feel stuck, lost, or helpless.

I am excited to work with people who experience an array of mental health concerns, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse or other addictive behaviors, ADHD, and relational concerns.
I believe that as people we are motivated by connection and relationships. Therapy can be a great way to explore what a healthy and collaborative relationship can be like, which can then be translated to behaviors in your daily life. I also invite discussions of identity, culture, and oppression, and how each may impact your lived experience. My aspiration is to walk alongside you in your counseling journey, tailoring sessions and interventions to help you meet your goals.

My BEST work is done when I’m helping LGBTQ+ and/or BIPOC adults manage ADHD + anxiety/depression/relationships/trauma.
Hi, I’m Dr. Essence! As a queer, multiracial and neurodivergent woman, I have first hand experience trying to embrace my identity, find belonging, and navigate a world that wasn't made for me. Soooo if you start therapy with me, you are guaranteed to have a psychologist who has walked the walk as much as she can talk the talk. I value the relationship with my clients over everything else, so I do my best to balance hyping you up with telling you the things you miiiiight not wanna hear. But, through my own self-disclosure and personal stories, I hope to cultivate a safe space for you to grow into your favorite version of yourself!

ADHD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
