Bike Response Team Members with Campus Safety Officers

Following a hiatus, Campus Safety is pleased to announce that it has restarted its Bike Response Unit in Fall 2023. With move-in days happening during NYU Welcome, Campus Safety had the perfect opportunity to officially launch its bike response unit, aimed at efficiently and sustainably responding to incidents around campus.

Unit members, including a Sergeant and five Campus Safety Officers, took part in a training class in late July 2023 in order to participate in the Unit. The class included learning skills such as manuevering their bicycle in tight spaces, riding at slow speeds, and getting experience on the streets of the city in preparation for riding among vehicles, other bicycles and pedestrians.

Bike Response Unit members have bright, reflective uniforms and helmets, and their bicycles are outfitted with special safety gear, including lights, reflectors, and a bag with locks, air pumps, extra tire tubes, and more.

Unit members ride bicycles instead of taking Department vehicles when it is feasible to do so, thereby continuing the Department's commitment to sustainability and improving our overall campus environment.
