Oh dear. I am/was a fan. He proports to be a feminist too. I will hope the accusations are proven false but also want to believe the women.

It's interesting that these two allegations have come out at the same time I wonder what prompted the coincidence or if one prompted the other.

Oh no! I am (was?) a big fan of him. Even if it was consensual the age gap and the fact he was the employer of one of them is still gross.

There's an investigation by Tortoise Media: https://www.tortoisemedia.com/2024/07/03/exclusive-neil-gaiman-accused-of-sexual-assault/

I'm only on episode one, but it's unsettling to listen to and occasionally graphic in its descriptions. Approach with caution, if coercive relationships/BDSM or sexual violence discussion is difficult for you.

Author denies allegations by two women who had been in consensual relationships with him.

Feminist my left foot.

He was amongst the authors who signed a letter saying, amongst other things "To that end, we say: non-binary people are non-binary, trans women are women, trans men are men, trans rights are human rights".

I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if this were true. Gender ideology, Queer Theory, the trampling of boundaries - it's all of a piece.

Indeed.

Yeah, I just started episode 3 of the podcast. A man in his 60s climbing naked into a bath with a woman in her early 20s, whom he has only just met and who is his employee. So grim, and the bohemian nudist vibes remind me of Jimmy Savile using his weirdness as a cloak for his perverted behaviour.

"Scarlett, 23, alleges that Gaiman sexually assaulted her within hours of their first meeting in February 2022 in a bath at his New Zealand residence, where she worked as a nanny to his child. Tortoise understands that Gaiman’s account is that they only “cuddled” and “made out” in the bath and that he had established consent for this."

within hours

I've listened to the whole podcast. It is as much an examination of consent in relationships and is very careful and thorough. It is fascinating, scary and calls a lot of people into question.

Lots of criticism online largely because Rachel Johnson is a 'right wing terf' (eye roll) and it's behind a Murdoch paywall (nope and nope). They seem to think it's a smearing by anti-trans baddies rather than a painstaking investigation that will have had to meet a lot of legal clearances and fully explains why it believes it is in the public interest.

An awful lot of these right side of history types aren't all they're cracked up to be are they?

Gaiman, who self-pityingly decided to travel as far away from his child as it was possible to do when his relationship ended during a worldwide pandemic (11,000 miles from NZ to a holiday home in Scotland, breaking lockdown laws in a way that made the crappiest Tories look practically angelic)?

He’s always struck me as a smug, self-centred individual. Not remotely surprised about this. But he’s got a phenomenally huge fan base — brave of this young woman to speak up

Sadly I can very easily believe this. I like some of his books but always thought he came across a bit arrogant and smug.

Never ever trust men who claim to be feminists. Its the oldest cliche in the book.
I was raped by a man who claimed feminism, and sexually assaulted by 2 GP members.
Lot of that in the GP which even Lucas acknowledged to me.
As to Gaiman a glaring manchild, he has been standing against womens safeguarding for several years.
All about the tra.

What a suprise.... not.
Totally and utterly predictable.

"Tortoise understands that he believes K’s allegations are motivated by her regret over their relationship and that Scarlett was suffering from a condition associated with false memories at the time of her relationship with him, a claim which is not supported by her medical records and medical history."

Wow, if this is true its some epic grade sadistic gaslighting.

To be fair, the example I gave was him answering a direct question from an audience about whether he considered his writing to be feminist and he answered to the affirmative. He may have said it otherwise (it wouldn't be a suprise).

Agree with you about his stance on the woman's rights/ safeguarding issue, I hoped he was one of the misguided but well meaning ones who just hadn't thought about it so i'm disappointed to be wrong. He has a super woke fanbase so deep into that shit I imaging.

I imagine this case will go nowhere just like all the others examples. The accusations seem very specific which makes it more plausible to me. Another one tainted that I need to swerve.

I assume the nanny is the betrayal hinted at by Amanda Palmer that she posted about either when he left or when they divorced.

Very much so. Yet Scarlett handed over all the WhatsApp messages between them and in these at times stresses to Gaiman it was all consensual and seems besotted with him. It's thiis grey area that fascinated the journalists as much as the proof (also shown) that she went to NZ police and they didn't bother to question Gaiman.

(More details - I hate to say spoilers - to anyone still listening)

When Amanda Palmer is told she is alleged to have said there had been 14 others.
