MDOS Title VI policy

Title VI Program Overview 

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, prohibits discrimination based upon race, color, and national origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. “No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” 

MDOS Title VI Program Policy Statement 

The policy of the State of Michigan, Department of State is to ensure that no person shall, on the grounds of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, income level, or LEP as provided by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and related Nondiscrimination authorities, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any program or activity. The MDOS further assures that every effort will be made to ensure nondiscrimination in all of its programs and activities, whether those programs are federally funded or not.

MDOS Title VI Program Mission 


The MDOS Title VI Program’s primary goal is to ensure all management, staff, contractors, local agencies, and service beneficiaries are aware of the provisions of Title VI and the responsibilities associated with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and related Nondiscrimination authorities.
