What do I need to change my address? (Choose tab)

Before changing your address with the Secretary of State, be sure to first file an Official USPS Change-of-Address with the U.S. Postal Service. If the post office doesn’t have your correct address in its systems, you may not receive you driver’s license/ID, vehicle tabs, or renewal notices in the mail.

When you change your address on your license or ID through your online Secretary of State account, you will be asked if you would also like to update your vehicle registration address. Otherwise, the address on your license or ID and vehicle registration must be updated separately.

License or ID

To change your address on your license or ID or add a new mailing address online, you will need:

  • Your Michigan license or ID number
  • The last four digits of your Social Security number

Follow the steps to update your residential and/or mailing address.

If you have a standard license or ID, we will mail you a sticker with your updated address to place on the back of your license or ID. If you have an enhanced credential, we will mail you a new enhanced license or ID with your updated address.

Use the designated space on your renewal mailer to update your address on your license/ID or vehicle registration when renewing by mail.
