Co-founder of Pearson Lloyd

Last Friday, I had the great pleasure of speaking at Design Declares first-ever in-person event. The half-day session was hosted by Pearson Lloyd at Yorkton Workshops. A brilliant line-up of speakers including Priya Prakash, Leyla Acaroglu, Andy Galloway, Sarah Booth provoked and pushed a super audience into the world of design and the climate emergency. My job was to share the journey Pearson Lloyd has been taking in its transition to a fully circular design-for-manufacture model. There is a long way to go and a key element in all our journeys is in shared insight and knowledge. Congratulations to co-instigators Alexie Sommer, Jo Barnard and Abb-d Taiyo on such a great day.

Great to hear you talk- and to hear your views on the perils of trends. I’d be sad to live in a world without dusty red trousers- I wonder how trends can live side by side with a considered purchase and longevity?

Really enjoyed the talks yourself and others gave that day. I never got to ask at the time, but I was wondering where do you look for new / sustainable materials in your design process?

Thanks Tom! Loved your circular economy diagrams - are they available anywhere online?
