Let’s honor our female engineers who drive innovation forward! 👩🔬 Today, we are delighted to recognize the achievements of one of our talented colleagues: Dr. Ing. Lenka Deneke, Principal Expert in Melting Technology at our RD in #Mainz. Lenka is responsible for developing and transferring new melting technology systems to production 🏭, solving complex problems, and collaborating with experts and colleagues from different areas and operations. Thanks to her team’s efforts, a newly developed melting technology is being transferred to production. This offers the opportunity to produce unique glass and contribute to our strategic goal of becoming #climateneutral2030 in our energy-intensive production. 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝! 🎉 6+ years of production and 949 mirror substrate blanks later, we’re very proud to announce that we have wrapped up our ZERODUR® production for the M1 main mirror of the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT)! That means that the European Southern Observatory (ESO) is one step closer to realizing their visionary telescope, which will be the world’s largest optical/infrared telescope when it sees its first light in 2028. 🔭 This production was a project of incredible scale for us, as it is the largest single order of ZERODUR® glass-ceramic in our company’s history. It has also been incredibly meaningful for us to produce the mirror substrate blanks for a telescope that will help astronomers investigate the origins of distant galaxies, search for extrasolar planets, and probe the earliest stages of the formation of planetary systems. 🙏 To celebrate this special occasion, our CEO, Dr. Heinricht, welcomed some special guests at our headquarters in Mainz, including ELT Programme Manager Roberto Tamai, Matthias Steinmetz from the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam, and representatives from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to mark the occasion together with our ZERODUR® team.
