Design Declares has always been about people. From the moment that the Design Council CDO Cat Drew introduced Alexie Sommer and Jo Barnard back in 2022, followed by Abb-d Taiyo and Aurelie Lionet coming onboard and aligning to the vision, we knew Design Declares was something special. Our first IRL event last June 17th, was the perfect example of the community coming together and creating 'something special'. Read our summary below...

What a way to end last week! We're still buzzing after our first IRL event last Friday at Yorkton Workshops, and had so much fun bringing the Design Declares community together. Huge thanks to our speakers Sarah Booth, Tom Lloyd RDI, Andy Galloway, Priya Prakash and Leyla Acaroglu! ✨🙌🏽✨ and their insights from the hidden green skills of design, through to pot holes, voting and community action! The room then came alive through the workshop and the brilliant and hilarious design pitches from the community, with campaigns for worm love hotels, compost dumping cargo pants, and much more. 🤣 Huge thanks to the D! community that came, and our event sponsors that made this all possible! TDC PR, GRAPHENSTONE, Pearson Lloyd, Wild, Logitech, Newspaper Club, DASH Water, The Five Points Brewing Company, Arrowtown Drinks, Pavilion Bakery. And of course, our D! steering team for the continued dedication and organising the event... Alexie Sommer, Jo Barnard, Abb-d Taiyo & Aurelie Lionet. If you're interested in being part of the next D! event, get in touch! 🌍

🌍 Happy Earth Day! Today is the perfect day to reflect on our design practices and see how they affect our planet! As designers working with an industry that relies on production and powers global consumption, we must acknowledge our role in bringing us to where we are now, and that we have an important role in what comes next. Share with us in the comments below how you’re adapting your design practice to heal the earth 🌿 #designdeclares #designforchange #sustainability #earthday

Really great example of rethinking product design and manufacture for circularity. The recently released Kibu headphones, designed by Morrama | Certified B Corp in collaboration with on-demand manufacturer Batch.Works are for kids (and adults) to build, repair and recycle themselves.
