When I was in high school and told my useless guidance counselor I was applying to Emerson College she looked dumbfounded as she’d never heard of it. And she tried (quite hard) to convince me against it. While the Daniels’ are today’s “it” high profile alum, they are among countless others who fuel the industry in front of and behind the scenes. So many of us have made long and prolific careers that started while having coffee sitting on the wall talking about our current projects. We’re not all as publicly successful - but then again, many of us are quite satisfied with that! Looking back, this was the very best advice from an authority figure I’ve ignored. It was a triumphant end to a successful awards season for the duo, who created a multiverse-hopping adventure that captivated audiences. A slew of Emersonians collaborated in the film, including Tallie Medel ’08 who won a Gold Derby Award for Ensemble Cast, and Sunita Mani ’08 who had a role as a TV musical queen. When I look back at my career the jobs I’ve loved the most were led by people like this guy. There is no way to leave personal issues out of the office. We’re human. Supporting people with compassion and empathy is key to leadership and simple people management. It doesn’t take money or time to offer some grace as we all navigate the ups and downs of our lives.
Leaders of organizations it's time to get serious about practicing empathy and compassion in a real way!! That's what real company culture is.. and it starts with all of us!

Because... ❌ Black women are more likely to be viewed as unprofessional and less competent when they style their hair naturally. ❌ Organizations still have "color blind" dress codes that explicitly forbid hairstyles typically seen on black people, leading to a color-conscious result. ❌ People of African descent worldwide (not just in the U.S.) experience #bias because of their hair. ✔ #BlackHairIsProfessional. 🤍🤍🤍 PLEASE SHARE 🤍🤍🤍 MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE FOR DOGGIES. This simple and easy concept followed by action is making a massive difference in the lives of these dogs and the people helping them. Yet so many shelters are run in such a way no improvements are done or it takes years for one simple idea to be heard and then more years to be implemented. The red tape and politics needs to be removed from the shelter system and forward thinking compassionate doers need to be the ones running things. The list of improvements that are simple and easy in shelters like PUTTING DRAIN COVERS ON THE DRAINS AT THE @sbcountyanimalcare SO THE DOGS CAN HAVE BLANKETS is one example of how things could be better for dogs. Or dividing the play yards so more dogs and volunteers can be out at once, providing sail shades and pools in all the yards. These we have offered to help @laanimalservices with and have but yet the dividing of the yards still lingers. Simple, easy things that show respect and love to the dogs who have been repeatedly failed by society is the very least we could do especially since so many never even get out alive yet people holding positions with the power to make these SIMPLE changes continue to do nothing.
