Journalism can help create the conditions for equitable change in early childhood education. But shrinking newsroom budgets often leave little room for early childhood coverage. Philanthropy can help close this coverage gap and advance systemic change in the process by: 1. Deepening public understanding of the systemic forces hindering progress. 2. Elevating solutions that reflect the lived expertise of providers, parents, and students. 3. Holding decision-makers accountable for their actions—or inaction. Read more:

A couple of days ago, we partnered with Axum for the unforgettable experience of The Wellbeing Project inaugural Hearth Summit in Nairobi! 🔥🌍 As a proud partner, we were inspired by the incredible energy and passion of change makers that had gathered to shape Africa’s future by focusing on intergenerational wellbeing and lifelong learning. Our very own Samuel Mugacha was part of the intergenerational Wellbeing plenary that looked into the Interconnectedness of individuals, families and communities and the impact that their collective experiences have on the ecosystem. Key takeaways: ✅ For Africa by Africa. Homegrown solutions work, we have what it takes to solve Africa's challenges. ✅ Healing is a collective effort. No one person or institution has the ability to shape well-being. ✅ Healing is possible. If we invest our time and resources in the right initiatives, a better future for young people is possible. Thank you to all our partners who were part of the panels and made this possible.

“This is a call for state agencies and schools to put resources into the community by training and hiring educators who reflect the student population they serve,” writes Sajdah Asmau, a National Black Child Development Institute Public Voices Fellow in Racial Justice in Early Childhood. We’re inspired by the work Sajdah and others are doing in the fellowship to change who shapes the narrative on early childhood. Read the full story in @EdSource:

🔥 Last week, we hosted the Hearth Summit Nairobi with The Wellbeing Project. It was an exhilarating two days filled with conversations, art, and activities focused on #wellbeing in the Kenyan context. 💡 From panels on restorative justice, faith and wellbeing, ecological belonging, and intergenerational wellbeing, to immersive workshops on the intersection of wellbeing with brands, grief, parenting, nutrition, and more, here are our key takeaways: 1. The significance of decolonizing our political, religious, and social structures to dismantle narratives of inequality and create systems that support collective wellbeing. 2. The power of intentionally identifying traumas and unlearning unhealthy habits, especially from an intergenerational perspective. 3. The need to remove economic, social, and infrastructural barriers to wellbeing initiatives, ensuring accessible and inclusive resources for all. 🤝🏾 We’re grateful to the dream team ✨Axum x The Wellbeing Project ✨ who worked tirelessly to put the Summit together: Edwin Macharia, Aaron Pereira, Jonathan Munge, Eunice Mwabe, Madelaine VanDerHeyden, Raquel Vicedo Artero, Siteiya Sunshyn Tabitha, Sandra Kimokoti, WINNIE MUNGAI, Angel Thairo, Alana Chávez, Serah Mwikali Katusya, Dana Preston (she/hers), Alejandra Mejia de Hernández and our partners WPP-Scangroup, Imaginable Futures, Vitol Foundation, and William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. 💫 Thank you to our hosts, moderators, speakers, artists, and participants who made the Summit magical. We left reinvigorated by the spirit of community and conversations that sparked a bright light for the wellbeing movement in #Kenya. We’re excited to continue the dialogue and look forward to what’s to come! #HSNairobi #HearthSummitNairobi Tecla Namachanja Julie Gichuru
