Hi everyone! We have some exciting news to share! In 2023, along with our ecosystem partners, we brought #Talk, #Care and #Play experiences to over 400,000 children by training 136,000 caregivers and 10,000 Anganwadi workers. As we enter our next phase of growth and impact, we are looking for a visionary India CEO to lead Dost Education into the future. This role comes at a pivotal moment, as our learnings from the past few years have informed a new strategic plan for the next three, five and seven years. Dost Education has thrived under founder leadership for the past decade, and as it prepares to expand its reach significantly, an India-based CEO is the ideal person to lead this vision. Since our founding in 2015, Dost Education has been dedicated to innovating on and expanding access to early childhood development in low-resource settings. We have built a remarkable team of 45 educators, social workers, engineers, and designers who are passionate about using technology and user-centric design to transform families' lives. From a pilot project as graduate students at UC Berkeley discovering a big problem to building a scalable product, to now, experimenting with new approaches and championing Talk Care and Play (Baatein Sneh aur Khel), Dost’s co-founders are thrilled to have reached the stage where we can intentionally expand our leadership team. Interested or Know Someone Who Might Be? If you have the skills and experience to lead our organization to new heights, we encourage you to apply. Here's a recap of what transpired at the Kenya Childcare Funders & Partners Conversations held earlier this month, to discuss the opportunities and gaps in the childcare space in Kenya and how funders can help advance this work constructively and collaboratively. This group of funders is building bridges across funders who care about childcare from different sectors — education/child development, women’s economic empowerment, nutrition. They recently wrote an op-ed together, arguing that:  “If women’s empowerment leaders can link up with child development leaders and those who promote access to health, nutrition, education, and other critical services that can be delivered through childcare centers, they create a formidable alliance.” 💡  Identified Challenge * There is a high demand for childcare services in Kenya, but the current facilities often lack quality 🔦 Recognised Opportunities * Investing in childcare can significantly boost economic growth, with every $1 invested potentially generating $7 in economic output * Improved childcare supports better outcomes for children and enhances women's participation in the labor force 📖 Key Recommendations * Enhance the childcare workforce through coaching and adult learning principles. * Establish robust quality assurance systems while ensuring regulatory processes support facility improvements without causing closures. * Advocate for increased government funding and inclusive strategies to expand access to high-quality childcare. Together, we aim to coordinate actions to elevate childcare standards across Kenya, and shape a brighter future for our children. Social and emotional skills are vital to a child’s development and future job prospects, but many education systems do not routinely monitor them. The OECD’s Survey on Social and Emotional Skills gives countries the chance to study how students are performing in this area. Do you want to take part? Countries and cities have until the last quarter of 2024 to signal interest in joining the survey due to be carried out in 2026, at sses.contact@oecd.org. In the video below, Robert Doble, Sector Director for Building Future Generations at Porticus, gives his perspective on why assessing social and emotional skills is so important. If you want to check out the most recent survey, go to comments. #SocialandEmotionalSkills

Hear from Reap Benefit on how nonprofits can better support young people in today's day and age. https://lnkd.in/dJzdXiEE

#Youth | Young people have varied motivations at different stages of their lives. These are ever changing and dynamic depending on their socio-economic conditions, geography, age, and peers. When Reap Benefit was started in 2013, their hypothesis was that young people are aware of their community problems, but they might not be able to perceive how to translate their knowledge into solutions. How can they take consistent action in their community to make short-term and long-term impact? Keeping this in mind, they started cultivating Solve Ninja Communities with the aim of encouraging young people in the age group of 12–18 years to solve hyperlocal climate and civic issues. While running these communities, they learned through trial and error that keeping young people engaged and motivated means keeping up with their changing needs. Read this article by Kuldeep Dantewadia and Navneet Kaur to learn how nonprofits can be cognizant of these needs and meaningfully engage with the youth. https://lnkd.in/dJzdXiEE *This is the first article in a 5-part series supported by the Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies. This series is focused on how nonprofits can continue to stay relevant to the youth communities they serve and improve their youth-centric programmes by learning from organisation perspectives as well as the lived realities of young people themselves.

On Think Tanks' six key reflections on the state of evidence use in education highlights growing interest among many funders for evidence use in education work "that is grounded in a deep understanding of the surrounding political economy and knowledge systems context;" but warns that we may fill the space with a multiplicity of fragmented efforts unless we strive for coordinated action that enhances our collective impact. Our work to stimulate a vibrant education research ecosystem in Africa sets out to do this in partnership with Imaginable Futures, Porticus, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Jacobs Foundation, Oak Foundation, The LEGO Foundation, Aga Khan Foundation, BHP Foundation, Zenex Foundation. 📚 Evidence Use in Education: Six Key Reflections from OTT Projects 📚 In the fast-evolving landscape of education, evidence use is gaining momentum: The new Evidence for Education Network, the What Works Hub for Global Education, the Africa Evidence Network’s youth league and Global Partnership for Education (KIX) (among others). Our recent work at On Think Tanks with partners such as Jacobs Foundation Echidna Giving Teach For All Building Evidence in Education (BE²) Oak Foundation and others has provided invaluable insights into this critical area. Here are six key reflections shared by my colleagues Emily Hayter Marcela Morales Hidalgo Racheal Makokha and Emma Broadbent: 1️⃣ Growing Interest Among Funders: Funders are increasingly prioritising evidence use, exploring diverse approaches to enhance it, and emphasising cross-party collaboration. 2️⃣ Multiplicity of Initiatives: The plethora of initiatives can be overwhelming. It’s essential to draw on existing evidence and foster knowledge-sharing platforms to avoid fragmented efforts. 3️⃣ Localisation: Grounding evidence use in the local context is crucial. Understanding political and knowledge systems helps tailor effective interventions. 4️⃣ Political Economy Understanding: There’s a notable gap in political economy studies on evidence use in education. We need in-depth explorations to leverage politics as a catalyst for change. Don't just buy everything you are told about edlabs and evidence informed reform. 5️⃣ Influence on Policy: There are opportunities to align education research with national development priorities. Strengthening local research funding is vital. 6️⃣ Practitioners as Evidence Users: Teachers and school leaders are key players in the evidence ecosystem. Engaging them deeply can enhance evidence-informed practices. We’re eager to delve deeper into these areas and welcome collaborations. Let’s drive impactful change together!
