Adults are more engaged when they are clear about how the learning will be immediately useful. If they are able to use something very soon, they will work harder to learn it. Build immediacy by helping participants discover opportunities for immediate application, and by building opportunities for immediate application into the session. We are always learning ways to serve our members better! One way we do this is with internal training and development. Staff from various departments became certified trainers after taking a recent three-day course with Global Learning Partners. This enables them to create customized employee learning experiences that engage both the head and heart. Here are a few thoughts on humility... A learning-centered approach is a humble one. Everyone must check their ego at the door. Since learning is in the doing and deciding, facilitators need to offer content and then get out of the way. The learning is not what is presented from the front of the room, but rather in dialogue and personalization of the content offered. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments!

The summer months can be a great time for contemplation. Silent retreats can provide time for reflection and rejuvenation. Introverts love this but it can be helpful for extroverts as well. Find a time at the end of a day, week, month, or year to be by yourself. Set an intention to reflect on things that you do well and areas that you want to improve. This is a great opportunity for uninterrupted mediation, yoga, or martial arts practice. You can bring your journal along to capture your thinking or allow the thoughts to wash over and pass through your mind. Have you ever gifted yourself with a silent retreat?
