Adults need a safe environment to learn. The perception of threat can trigger the brain 🧠 and reduce the capacity for deep thinking. Several components impact safety such as.. 🟠Atmosphere during the session, 🟡 Design of learning tasks, 🟢 Structure of dialogue & 🟣 Facilitation of session. All training elements should work together to create a sense of safety, so that adults can feel safe enough to be challenged by their learning. #adultlearning

Learning is challenging! It isn't easy to integrate new knowledge or a way of working or being. For learning to stick and be used in real life, learners need support, encouragement and resources. Consider accountability partners, 1:1 mentoring or review sessions to reinforce learning. Let's chat in the comments. Adults are more engaged when they are clear about how the learning will be immediately useful. If they are able to use something very soon, they will work harder to learn it. Build immediacy by helping participants discover opportunities for immediate application, and by building opportunities for immediate application into the session. Here are a few thoughts on humility... A learning-centered approach is a humble one. Everyone must check their ego at the door. Since learning is in the doing and deciding, facilitators need to offer content and then get out of the way. The learning is not what is presented from the front of the room, but rather in dialogue and personalization of the content offered. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments!
