Three individuals and five companies were indicted in Romania 🇷🇴 for a €1 million fraud. At issue is an IT project for the development of innovative software solutions. The project beneficiary allegedly submitted inaccurate documents for services and goods that were never delivered or purchased, and work contracts for persons who were not employed – thus unduly obtaining funds from the EU budget. 👉More: https://lnkd.in/e6rydJFp

Following an investigation by EPPO in Zagreb, the County Court in Zagreb has convicted a suspect of subsidy fraud and document forgery. The case involved three projects, including the construction of a greenhouse, co-financed by the EU and valued at nearly €650 000. The defendant, who falsely claimed eligibility to secure nearly €370 000 in subsidies, has been sentenced to eleven months of imprisonment, exchanged for community service, and a €25 000 fine. The EPPO in Zagreb has expanded its investigation in Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Croatia, to include four suspects and a company for subsidy fraud and money laundering. This move follows evidence of additional subsidy fraud by one suspect involving fraudulent applications for EU agricultural funds. The initial investigation, launched in October 2023, centred on a €2.5 million EU agricultural grant, co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and Croatia's state budget. The investigation has since revealed further fraudulent activities, including the submission of false data to obtain non-refundable EU agricultural funds. As a result, the EAFRD suffered a loss of €58 885.91, with further losses prevented by detecting irregularities in time. For more information, read the full press release: https://lnkd.in/ejXmUkvx

Arrested in Belgium 🇧🇪: two suspects in customs fraud investigation involving biodiesel imports, with an estimated damage of €3.1 million. They are understood to be the ringleaders of a criminal organisation importing biodiesel of US origin into the EU, while fraudulently declaring its origin as Morocco. More: https://lnkd.in/eKE4N-Bj
