The UK Infrastructure Bank (UKIB), which was setup by the previous government to help crowd-in private investment for infrastructure projects, has today committed £35m to help alternative network provider Wildanet accelerate their rollout of gigabit-capable full fibre broadband across South West England.

Business focused broadband ISP Skyline Networks appears to be gearing up for an expansion of their fibre optic and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) network, which is already delivering gigabit-capable broadband and Ethernet (leased line) style services to parts of Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Norfolk.

Broadband ISP Quickline, which is building a new gigabit-capable full fibre (FTTP) and fixed wireless (5G FWA) network across rural and semi-rural parts of the North East and Midlands of England, has confirmed that a further three villages across North Yorkshire have now been connected to their network.

Network operator nexfibre, which shares some of their parentage with UK broadband ISP partner Virgin Media (O2), has announced that they’ve added 20,000 additional homes in the Buckinghamshire (England) town of Milton Keynes to the coverage of their new 2Gbps speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / XGS-PON) broadband network.

Network operator CityFibre, which has already expanded their full fibre broadband ISP network to cover 3.6 million UK premises, claims to have made the testing of new products, network technology changes and software upgrades “up to” 100x faster – while also increasing test capacity by 300% – through the adoption of a fully automated test environment.

Network operator and UK ISP Brsk, which now covers 600,000 premises passed across England via their full fibre network and is in the process of being merged into Netomnia (here), has today revealed that they’ve also extended their coverage to 100,000 premises across the West Midlands (i.e. South Birmingham and The Black Country).

UK ISP Quantum Broadband (formerly Quantum Air Fibre) appear to be gearing up for an expansion of their ongoing efforts to deploy a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network “throughout Lincolnshire and the adjoining counties” in England, which provides ultrafast broadband to residential, business, and wholesale customers.

The BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker, which is really intended for network operators and ISPs but has always been used by savvy consumers to check the status of BTW and Openreach based services, appears to have recently made a change that seems to stop displaying ADSL results in areas where VDSL or FTTP (or both) are present.

LetterOne, the investment firm behind alternative network provider Upp’s £1bn project to deploy a new full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network across 1 million premises in the East of England (here), has asked the High Court of Justice in London to rule it was unlawfully ordered to sell the network by the UK Government.

City-focused gigabit broadband ISP Hyperoptic, which has now built a full fibre (FTTP/B) network to cover “more than” 1.73 million homes across parts of 64 UK towns and cities (up from 1.6m on 3rd June 2024), has today secured £150m from the UK Infrastructure Bank (UKIB) to help “accelerate” their network expansion.

Alternative network operator and ISP Grain (Grain Connect), which has already grown their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to cover 220,000 premises RFS (21st May 2024) and 30,000 customers, has today announced that they’ve put their service live in part of Brighton (East Sussex, England).

CityFibre have today announced that the first customer has just gone live on their new full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network in Cambridgeshire (England) under the £69m state aid supported Project Gigabit rollout contract (Lot 5), which began its construction phase back in February 2024 (contract was awarded in March 2023).

Customers of mobile operator and UK ISP Vodafone may like to know that the operator has finally introduced their new 2.2Gbps (symmetric) speed home broadband package, which is based off CityFibre’s national Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network and includes their premium “Pro II” features. But they also have a 1.6Gbps option on Openreach’s network.
