I mean, to some extent, yes. This young Scarlet Mask (I guess they're the scribes?) is sent on a mission to find out if these kids at a camp have created and/or will create a monster. There have been some accidents recently and everyone knows children have BIG imaginations. So, god forbid these little fuckers start telling campfire stories to explain them, right?
Our Scarlet Mask is very detached from his emotions, has an eidetic memory, and his totem is a paintbrush that uses blood. At some point in the mission, he finds out about some spoilery memories that he lost.
But beyond that? I don't know what the fuck just happened. Yeah, I'll keep reading this title (for now) because I love this world. But this was definitely a low point in the series, and I hope this isn't indicative of what to expect from here on out. Completionists only....more

Or maybe figure out why she was born with a cape? I don't know. But the mean girls are mean to her because of it.
She meets up with another girl at the school who does a true crime podcast and they end up fighting off Chuthulu together.
Ok, not really. They do end up investigating a string of disappearances on campus. It looks like girls that nobody would miss have...well, gone missing.
Pretty generic all around, and I doubt if I would have even found this if it hadn't been under the Archie label on Hoopla. But to be honest, now I'm kind of curious about the character, so I'm not saying I wouldn't read more about her if I got the chance. We'll see.

Someone dares you to eat something gross? My answer is no. What's the worst that can happen? I just lost? Oh nos! And fuck no, I'm not telling the truth if the truth is embarrassing. God gave us the ability to lie for a reason. Use it. Basically, this whole comic's scenario is based on the fears of people who played this game with all the earnestness of a toothy youth pastor.
Trula Twyst is the new student with a dark past, and she's set her sights on Jughead. Sort of? I honestly don't get what her end game was other than she was crazy and wanted to cause chaos. But there's a somewhat cool cameo at the end of the comic for longtime fans of Archie.
I wish there were going to be more issues, as I think this wacky family has more entertainment value left,Nice ending that wraps everything up.

I wish there were going to be more issues, as I think this wacky family has more entertainment value left, but I do appreciate it when an author doesn't drag a series past its shelf life. So. Better to go out with a nice little bang.
Without giving spoilers, I can say that this was an adequately satisfying conclusion. Kind of vanilla, but not unexpectedly vanilla, as this was never a comic that led me to believe there would be a shocking twist at the end. Recommended....more

Still, I liked the story of Sir Walter Scott's mother. It seems to be some kind of urban legend that says she was buried alive and resuscitated by graverobbers. I poked around online and found there was possibly something to it but nothing definite. Idk the truth of the matter, but it makes for a cool story.
The rest of the issue was the story of an artist who "painted death" and a short text story, Red Bird, about a woman who lost her sight and gained the second sight, then gained her sight and lost her ability to see visions. And that's neat, no lie. But I didn't find this as amazing as the first issue as far as storytelling goes. Still, you could do a lot worse. And if this kind of thing is your jam, you'll probably get a kick out of this run.
This is basically everything that's wrong with Archie horror all rolled into one issue. Take a group of characters no one knoA complete stinker.

This is basically everything that's wrong with Archie horror all rolled into one issue. Take a group of characters no one knows or cares about, add a flimsy description of each one on the first page to assign them a role, then proceed to tell a half-assed story that feels like chunks of plot were randomly scooped out by editorial.
The very skinny gist is that three paranormal characters want fame, get into a silly magical slapfight, and something "happens" at the end.

I found this while looking for something for our Jack Kirby buddy read in The Shallows. There's a lot to pick from when it comes to Kirby, but my eyeballs lit up when I saw this one because I dig kitschy old comics with a supernatural twist to them.
I opened this up fully expecting it to be the same schlock I've come to expect (and love) from these kinds of comics. And was kind of floored that they were...shockingly good.
There were 3 graphic stories and 1 short print story, and all of them were great. My favorite was Maniac, though. It tells the story of a man and his mentally disabled brother, and it completely subverted my expectations. I was thinking it was going to be some Of Mice and Men kind of thing, and was...not.
The Head of the Family (on the cover) was also very cool, as was the Island of Dr. Moreau feel to The Greatest Horror of Them All.
Now, is this really a 5 star read? Well, that's going to depend on what you enjoy in a comic, but for me it was great. Highly Recommended....more
The premise is so fucknuts stupid that it shouldn't work, but it just does. And now I'm completely invested in this storyline.

So something evil The premise is so fucknuts stupid that it shouldn't work, but it just does. And now I'm completely invested in this storyline.

So something evil is amiss in the theme park, and the son of the creator, Sam Dante, is tentatively teaming up with the sister of the boy who supposedly killed himself in the park. But the more they investigate, the weirder things get.
Sam also takes a supernatural ride down memory lane and finds out that nothing about his childhood is what he thought it to be. There's some dark & freaky shit in that family tree!

The ending leaves you hanging off the cliff, so I'm definitely coming back for more as soon as possible.

Cat Got Your Tongue The story of Jólakötturinn, the Yule Cat.

Sheila Wu lives in Iceland but somehow still manages to run afoul of Veronic's sharp tongue. Unfortunately for Ronnie and her asshole friends, it's probably not a good idea to make fun of Sheila's clothes.

Wrath of the Sugar Plum FairyA Christmas fairy takes pity on Reggie after he gets rejected by Midge...again.

Well, no. But she does love making Sabrina's life Hell.
Black Moon Lilith Madam Satan gets reprimanded by Lucifer's lackey and sent to detention. Or more accurately, a torture chamber. While there, she runs into Veronica (now a bird) and she kicks off the storytelling.

Dressed to Kill!

Veronica takes paying for her clothes a bit too far. One of the better shorts. Ronnie goes to a boutique and is told by the hop owner that the item she wants demands something of more value than money. And so it begins. Three Twilight Zoneish stories set in the Archie universe. They're ok, but the only one that was actually decent was the story with Betty Cooper.

Betty Cooper: Alien Hunter Pretty good short starring Betty (from Jughead The Hunger) finding a spaceship that crashed in Riverdale. She spends the issue pursuing a shapeshifter from outer space to Pop's diner, but everyone in the restaurant is sick of her shenanigans and blows her off. So who's the shapeshifter?

Bingo Wilkin Day Years ago, Bingo made a deal with the devil to stay young and now he wants two of his old high school classmates to help him break the pact and finally age up. Or does he?

A Wrinkle in Time Alexandra Cabot finds a wrinkle and is determined to do whatever it takes to get rid of it. Girl, I feel you. But the story itself was a bit silly, as she ended up using some kind of injection that made her invisible.

At any rate, he certainly doesn't realize that Salem is anything but your average scruffy feline. And that will come back to bite him in the ass, as Salem isn't one to take this sort of insult to himself or any of the other animals lightly.
