Late after sunset there at Great Falls, Maryland ... here a section of the Potomac River cuts through Olmstead Island.
It was getting dark enough here to capture this scene at 30 seconds without the need of any ND filters.
This part of the river is the end of the tidal part.

Thanks for joining me as we climb south of Dunedin to Lake Waihola and the rivers that flow from it to the sea.
A pair of Union Pacific EMD SD50s power a southbound taconite ore train over the Escanaba River Bridge passing milepost 117 at North Escanaba, Michigan, on a cold January 18, 1997. This Pratt through truss bridge was built in 1892 by Lassig Bridge & Iron Works for Chicago & North Western on their ore line running from Partridge Junction to the ore dock located on Lake Michigan at Escanaba. After Union Pacific merged Chicago & North Western, it only had the ore line for a short time before Wisconsin Central, and later Canadian National, operated it. Unfortunately, this bridge was replaced in 2015, and with the closure of Empire Mine, Canadian National closed the ore dock in Escanaba in 2017.
The river knows where to flow, finding a path as it goes. It travels around small islands, over a steep drop, and then carves through a steep gorge on its path downstream. A large mist cloud forms and a rainbow appears.
The water levels were lower and calmer closer to the shoreline and a group of ducks were dabbling. The gulls were busy flying and feeding in the river. It may be cold but there is life on the river. The temperature was -9 Celsius with a windchill around -15 Celsius. A beautiful and sunny winter day was in store. The walking path in this section beside the river was mostly icy. This pathfinder wore a good pair of boots and tread carefully and slowly.

Have a nice day! Stay safe!
Best to enlarge to see the ducks and gulls.
