The Tongariro River is a premier fly fishing water and is the most fished river in the country with a world-wide reputation for the size, number and vigour of the trout and the challenge they present to anglers.
The Tongariro is a wide swift flowing river which enters Lake Taupo near the township of Turangi. The river flows over a mixture of rock, gravel and sand and tends to clear relatively quickly after rain. The river is large and deceptively powerful. While it is prone to flooding after heavy rain it does clear quickly.

The view of Parliament of Canada, Parliament Hill, Supreme Court of Canada and Ottawa River at night taken from Portage Bridge.
Thank you so much for your views, comments and faves! They are encouraging as I continue on my photographic journey.
I just finished a few days in the Adirondacks, and this is my first image from the trip. This was Friday's sunset along route 30, where the Raquette River feeds into Tupper Lake. The weather had been going back and forth from rain to sun and the clouds opened to let the light through for about five minutes before the rain returned. Adirondack Park is one of those places I could just get lost in and never come back. Such beauty to be found. via 500px ift.tt/2J0LgNC
This is a photo that I took while canoeing (for the last time until next spring) of the reflections of tree branches on the undulating surface of the river.

One of the random views from a short but delightful hike in the Denali National Park. It was raining and snowing (yes, in August) for most of the day, and only on the way back the skies cleared. We asked to be let off the bus and kept on along the road on foot until we got picked up by another bus a couple of hours later. I cannot pinpoint this place precisely. That peak in the distance may or may not be the Cathedral Mountain.
Most of my images are geotagged, and the Map Group lets you see the patterns of travels in this map of my images. They don't pay me to advertise, I just think it is a nice service.
This is a photo of a curtain of icicles that formed under a branch as the water level dropped in the river.
My "Black screen of death" is fixed. It was caused by Symantec update for antivirus software....ironic! Had to uninstall it!

Compare this river photo to the previous photo in my photostream. This was taken way up North, in the Adirondacks, where the Hudson River actually begins near the foot of Mt. Marcy, at a place called Lake Tear of the Clouds. I read that it's interesting that New York's mightiest river starts at the foot of the State's tallest mountain. At this point, one can probably wade across it. The widest spot connects Rockland and Westchester Counties with a 3-mile long bridge, which, by the way, was just replaced.
For more information of the building of the new bridge see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Tappan_Zee_Bridge
It was really fun watching the progression.
