Mt. Rohr rises majestically over British Columbia's Duffey Lake. A spectacular area that doesn't receive much traffic. Nice!

One of the most extraordinary and iconic sights along the Icefields Parkway is this bedazzling lake.

Significant amounts of glacial rock flour flow into the lake from Peyto Glacier and the Wapta Icefields. These suspended rock particles give the lake a bright, turquoise/blue color that is world renowned.

Thanks for taking a look and for any comments, faves and suggestions.

Enjoy a wonderful Friday and weekend!

I spent 2 days at the North Rim of Grand Canyon and it rained most of the time. I chased the lightning here for 3 hours and took over 1000 boltless photos under an umbrella during my endeavor. Trying to capture lightning without a trigger trap is a huge waste of time, but when your successful just once it makes it all the more rewarding. I tried several different setups using continuous shutter mode with long exposures and then switched to shorter exposures on slow shooting continuous mode and thought that I had failed. When I later reviewed my photos back at the campground I found that I had captured one photo with a strike included. I guess it was luck or just persistence that rewarded me. I also used a second camera to capture video of the storm and the awesome thunderstorm that accompanied the storm. I'm not sure if I will post any of the video but it was nice to have a personal record of the awesomeness of the storms the frequent the Grand Canyon.

This is the view looking out over the amphitheater at Bryce Canyon in Utah.

I have been posting a lot of night photos lately, so today I have decided to come out of the dark and show some daytime photos.

Even though it's been said that midday is a bad time to shoot photos, that's not the case here in Bryce. You can shoot anytime of day and walk away with interesting photos. After talking to some other photographers there, I'm told that it's rare to find a day in Bryce without nice puffy clouds. For this shot I wanted to focus mainly on the layered landscape and hoodoo formations. I realize that the composition is tilted slightly, but I have decided to leave it this way so as not to lose the sharpness in the photo. Most people don't realize how important it is to get your camera level before taking the shot because when you rotate an image, even the slightest then the software has to resample the image to "resquare" the pixels by filling in artificial pixels. This is commonly known as interpolation.

So "Hot Tip of the Day" is. Turn on the level in your camera or purchase a external level. It's a dirt cheap way to get sharper photos.

If you are a little off the known paths of Rothenburg, you get outside the city walls into the valley where the River Tauber flows. Here stands this beautiful medieval bridge and next to it an enchanting half-timbered house.

October waved goodby with sunshine and warm tempereratures and we used the perfect weather for an extended hiking tour on the Wittedindsweg, a crest trail on the Wiehengebirge from Porta Westfalica in the East to the Osnabrück area in the West. Before the sun went down we visited the most interesting spots of the Eastern part of the trail.
