We are proud to see that the £150 million redevelopment of North London Waste Authority's recycling facilities at Edmonton EcoPark will officially open its doors to the public on 15th July. As a long-term technical advisor on this landmark project, WSP in the UK is thrilled to celebrate the launch of a state-of-the-art, sustainable waste management hub for North London. Key highlights of the new facility include: ➡️ New resource recovery facility: A modern centre for managing food and garden waste, mattresses, bulky items, and more. ➡️ Doubling food waste collection: The new facility will significantly expand capacity to support the upcoming compulsory food waste service for all English residents by 2026. ➡️ Community recycling centre: Residents from Enfield, Haringey, Waltham Forest, and surrounding boroughs will be able to bring materials for recycling. ➡️ Sustainable features: The facility includes North London’s largest solar array, already generating over 215,000 kWh of energy and working towards making EcoPark House off-grid. ➡️ Educational and community space: EcoPark House, opening later this year, will support the Edmonton Sea Cadets and offer educational programs on waste management and the circular economy. This achievement marks a significant step forward in North London’s environmental efforts, and we are pleased to be part of this transformative project alongside the NLWA and other partners. Exciting times at our Chancery Lane Office! 🌟 This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming over 30 students from a range of colleges and schools in and around London who joined us for our STEM work experience programme. It was inspiring to see the enthusiasm of participants as they engaged with our speakers to explore topics such as sustainability, rail design, bridge engineering, work winning, bidding and skills development. Opportunities like these remind us how important it is to attract the next generation of engineers and technical specialists who will design and shape our future. A big thank you to everyone who made this possible! 🚀🔬 Sinéad Brown, Martha Smith, Paul Reilly

We were delighted to see our Principal Consultant, Susan Leadbetter, and Associate Director, Nathan Huntley, attend the Women and Planning Conference 2024 at Cloth Hall Court in Leeds yesterday and today. As interest grows in making urban planning more inclusive for women and girls, the conference brought together experts across the industry and academia to help bridge the gap between research and real-life application. A big thank you to Leeds Beckett University for organising the event and to RTPI International for being a key sponsor. #WeAreWSP #WomenInPlanning #UrbanDevelopment

Social value sits at the heart of our UK strategy. We’re dedicated to a transparent approach based on evidence, robust measurement, and external verification. Since 2020, we've been improving our measurement of social value across the UK. Over the past two years, we’ve measured over £227m of embedded and additional social value through our chosen activities – this includes 25,507 apprentice weeks, 20,762 hours of volunteering, the donation of 510 laptops to good causes, plus an enhanced employee wellbeing programme, over 150 work experience weeks and millions of pounds passed to SMEs in our supply chains. To note, our corporate measurement excludes the inherent social value we deliver through designing and advising on projects, also the embedded social value of directly employing our people. As we continue to find ways to maximise our social impact, we’ll continue to reshape our efforts and investment to make even more difference. WSP in the UK’s VIBE & Ally Network continued the celebration and recognition of Pride Month with an inspiring LGBTQ+ History Walk around Manchester. 🚶 🌈 The walk followed a trail around the city established in 2003, featuring rainbow flag mosaics that mark sites of historical LGBTQ+ significance dating back to 1865! A highlight of the walk was the Alan Turing Memorial (pictured below). The group finished the evening by enjoying delicious food and drink just off Newton Street, home to Manchester's first LGBTQ+ bookshop. Manchester VIBE is also collaborating with the Manchester Social Committee and Professional Growth Network (PGN) on other events to celebrate pride, including a Bake Sale to raise money for local LGBTQ+ charities and a hike in Todmorden. #PrideAtWSP #WeAreWSP
