Many Indigenous nations – once relegated to minor roles in project development on their own lands – are increasingly becoming partners and equity owners in projects impacting their territories. Attracting #ESG investors and decreasing social and governmental risk are some of the advantages demonstrated when Indigenous consent and values are woven into a project and corporate governance. As an increasing number of industries are seeing the benefits of Indigenous participation, the envelope has been pushed further and further. Indigenous nations who choose to invite major projects onto their traditional territories and take #equity ownership positions in these projects can positively impact project timing, financial risks/benefits, the environmental assessment processes, and – most importantly – can incorporate Indigenous values into projects, and the land impacts on future generations. Companies such as Enbridge have signed deals with over a dozen First Nations making them equity partners in existing pipelines, meanwhile, the Western Green Energy Hub hydrogen project in Australia was conceived from a First Nation and private sector partnership. The boundaries of what Indigenous participation means are shifting. Join us next April to learn from landmark #Indigenous-Industry deals impacting your sector. In the pursuit of economic prosperity aligned with the 2030 Agenda, particularly SDG 9, #SustainableIndustrialization emerges as a linchpin for developing nations. Yet, the Latin America and Caribbean (#LAC) region confronts hurdles towards this vision, marked by premature deindustrialization rooted in historical and global dynamics. However, there's a path forward. 🌱 Through focusing on industrial decarbonization, support for MSMEs and entrepreneurs, and embracing renewable energy and the digital transformation, LAC can reclaim its industrial narrative. At #UNIDO, we're committed to empowering LAC's industrial resurgence. Our suite of support, from technical cooperation to investment facilitation and policy advisory, aims to propel LAC industries onto the global stage.

July update from the Network: "It has been a pleasure supporting the Network as Interim CEO for the past three months. As we look forward to welcoming Anna Boustead back into the role in mere weeks, I find myself reflecting on why the Network is so important, its essential role, and the significance of the Indigenous carbon industry. This week is national #NAIDOCWeek, with the theme: Keep the fire burning! #BlakLoudProud (the artwork below is titled 'Urapun Muy' by Deb Belyea). It’s certainly a theme close to ICIN’s mission and purpose. We are proud of ICIN's full members who care for Country, culture and communities through 34 Indigenous-owned and operated savanna fire management carbon projects, and four projects in other carbon methods. Here's to supporting many more Indigenous organisations to keep the fire burning and benefit from #carbonmarkets through their land and sea management practices, Shaun Ansell, Interim CEO, ICIN Read the full update here: https://lnkd.in/gb4GrhGz #climatechange #netzero #netnegative #indigenousknowledge #climatejustice #conversationsforchange #sustainability #conservation #earthdayeveryday #sdgs #carbonmarkets #carbonfinance #climatepolicy #emissionsreductions #Reconciliation #IndigenousLeadership #EquitableOpportunities

“When I think about projects like Waasigan, the model really is about collaborating throughout the development phase of the project as partners. Creating space for Indigenous inclusion and input into major decisions so that our projects reflect the input of communities right from the beginning.” ~ Matthew Jackson, Director, Indigenous Relations, Partnerships & Business Development Hydro One Energizing life means more than supplying safe and reliable power, it means partnering to build tomorrow’s infrastructure that supports a clean economy and advances reconciliation. We achieve this by listening and taking actions to meet communities’ needs, and through our industry-leading First Nations equity partnership model. In cooperation with First Nation partners, work is underway to advance this project together, including an environmental assessment, so that we’re ready to support the region’s electricity needs. ✏ AWEurope signs a joint letter to make the most of the #SGP reform for green investment in #Europe. ♻️ Investing in the #greentransition is key to achieving the #netzero scenario. However, the current Stability and Growth Pact (SGP) reform proposal does not adequately incentivise #MemberStates to invest. 🎯 To address this shortcoming, seven organisations including AWEurope have signed an #OpenLetter which calls for targeted modifications of the SGP to increase green public investment, including: - Fiscal-structural plans should favor green investment over brown investment, including a minimum share for green investments and reforms and a requirement to reduce climate-harming subsidies over the course of a fiscal-structural plan. - Allow Member States to use all available fiscal space to achieve the green transition in line with debt sustainability. - Ideally, preferential treatment to national green investment which is co-financed through #EUfunds. 👉 Read the full letter here: https://lnkd.in/eA6zsnhF Airborne Wind Europe, Cleantech for Europe, EUREC - The Association of European Renewable Energy Research Centres, Climate Strategy & Partners, Jacques Delors Institute, Tech for Net Zero, Transport & Environment (T&E)
