We were delighted to see our Principal Consultant, Susan Leadbetter, and Associate Director, Nathan Huntley, attend the Women and Planning Conference 2024 at Cloth Hall Court in Leeds yesterday and today. As interest grows in making urban planning more inclusive for women and girls, the conference brought together experts across the industry and academia to help bridge the gap between research and real-life application. A big thank you to Leeds Beckett University for organising the event and to RTPI International for being a key sponsor. #WeAreWSP #WomenInPlanning #UrbanDevelopment

In the run-up to International Women’s Day this Friday, we are bringing you our second instalment of 4OC Recommends. This time, it’s an IWD themed selection of must-reads, hand-picked by some of our brilliant colleagues. 🔎 Kim Wakelam recommends: Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men, Caroline Criado Perez - a book that explains the challenges women face due to exclusion from all things ranging from government, policy decisions, infrastructure design and medical research. https://lnkd.in/dH7cYtVk 📣 Aislinn Gannon recommends: The Authority Gap: Why Women are Still Taken Less Seriously Than Men, and what We Can Do about it, Mary Ann Sieghart – a manifesto explaining why women are still underestimated and overlooked in today's world, but how we can also be hopeful for change. https://lnkd.in/dvKep7Ra 🏙 Rebecca Tildesley recommends: Feminist City, Leslie Kearn - a look at urban spaces designed by men and how they have negatively impacted the day-to-day lives of women living in cities, offering an alternative vision to urban planning. https://lnkd.in/dbS_ZSRZ Have you read any of these? If not, IWD might be the time to give one a go! #4OC #ComplexChangeMadeEasy #InternationalWomensDay #IWD

We are approaching Northumbria University’s Violence Against Women and Girls: Research into Practice conference that will take place on 29th November 2023. What will happen during the conference? This interdisciplinary conference will focus on how research about Violence against Women (VAW) is and can be, used in practice. It will explore the complex relationships between research, policy and practice and will address, in relation to VAWG, questions such as: How can academic research be most useful for effecting policy and professional practice change? How can practitioners, policymakers, and researchers collaborate productively? What kinds of research are most impactful in effecting progressive social change? Featuring presentations, panel discussions and interactive sessions from researchers, policymakers and practitioners it will showcase some of the innovative work of Northumbria University staff, as well as contributions from leading advocates in the VAWG sector more widely. The conference will appeal to scholars including Postgraduate Researchers, practitioners and professionals, activists, policy- and decision-makers working to tackle and bring an end to VAWG. The conference is fully subscribed. If you would like to join a waiting list please follow this link: https://lnkd.in/eSq5iYbr #16daysofactivism #16days #genderbasedviolence #endviolenceagainstwomen

Not everything that The ALIVE National Centre does can fit on one page but we've gathered some of the core parts of our 2023 journey to share what matters for us: * connection is key * communities matter * capabilities are essential * conversations are continous * change and community action are key. Let's imagine transforming ecosystems of care where interconnections between people are the focus, where capabilities growth is as much about unlearning for some as it is about learning for others and where communities are places to drive change. Let's also then imagine mental health research translation becomes more about the actions that grow these things...
The ALIVE National Centre team are getting set for the 2024 Annual Symposium Holistic Formations where we look back on where we have come from and set course for where we travel on the road ahead. This year as we reflect on questions of impact, the National Centre's symposium asks some critical questions about the 2023 released Australian Government's Measuring What Matters National Well-Being Framework. Off the back of International Women's Day calls for #countherin and to support the need for equity, equality and fairness in our communities to address impacts of trauma, violence, racism and colonisation, we raise some critical questions about "what's counted in what's measured?", and "what matters for whom?" Join us to form our Call to Action to Cast the Net for What Matters in Holistic Systems this week in Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country Canberra 14th-16th March 2024 for Holistic Formations.
