Reach plc reposted this
We've been determined to ensure the agenda in this election campaign isn't totally set by what the parties want to talk about, but about the issues that really matter to voters. So we launched the 5,000 Voices campaign, to ensure views and issues from diverse communities across the UK were all captured in our coverage. It's been a truly collaborative project that's created content for our smallest local titles and our biggest nationals, and we've also been able to give invaluable experience to some young journalists just starting out on their careers as part of it. You can read more about what we've done here: https://lnkd.in/euE7Cjn2, and dip into some of the 150+ stories created so far here: https://5000voices.co.uk/. Congratulations to Paul Gallagher, Helen Dalby and others who helped coordinate it, and thanks to all our news teams across the country for buying into it so enthusiastically. It's a very important piece of work.

Two weeks ago, we launched 5000 voices - an ambitious vox pop video project capturing the public’s views in the run-up to tomorrow’s general election. Our journalists have been talking to voters around the UK about the campaign trail’s hot topics and mishaps, what they think of the party leaders, and what really needs to be done in their areas. It’s a revealing collection of views - link in comments to read the stories from across our titles. And in this video, check out some of the answers we got when voters in Edinburgh, Dorking, Bury, Hull, Greater Manchester and other parts of the UK were asked: what’s more important, tax cuts or better investment in public services? #electioncoverage #localjournalism #journalism

On Saturday, staff from the Mirror and Reach joined the Pride in London march as part of the Mirror’s media partnership. Many members of ReachOut, our colleague network for LGBTQ+ staff and allies, were part of the parade with their friends and family. Kate Allen, Chair of ReachOut, said: “What an incredible day! As Reach colleagues, friends and family marched together to celebrate love and equality, I was so proud that we were able to experience such an amazing ‘life moment’ together and that the Mirror was official media partner for the first time in our history. We are already looking forward to next year.” Here’s a few pictures from the day taken by our staff. #pride #lgbtq+ #prideinlondon #allyship

Our #storyoftheweek comes from CornwallLive where senior reporter Oli Vergnault tests out a new stretch of the A30 that’s been four years and £330m in the making - a highly viewed piece and a classic example of local journalism “on the ground.” #storyoftheweek #CornwallLive Link in comments to read more
