As Debbie Fielder retires from Clwyd Pension Fund at the end of July, we reflect on her significant contributions and dedication to LGPS pensions. Debbie has served as a Non-Executive Director on the Pensions for Purpose Board since 2021, when we became a limited entity. Her leadership in sustainable investing has been instrumental, with Clwyd becoming one of the first Adopters of the Impact Investing Principles for Pensions. Her support in encouraging many asset managers and consultants to become members of Pensions for Purpose has helped to drive positive change within the pensions industry. Debbie's expertise and dedication have been evident throughout her career. Rising to the position of Deputy Head of Clwyd Pension Fund, she oversaw numerous managers and funds with a keen eye for detail. At her last meeting with the pensions committee, she conducted a training session on impact investment, demonstrating her knowledge and authority on the subject. A regular speaker at LGPS conferences, Debbie consistently shared valuable insights, managing her nervousness about public speaking with professionalism. Her well-informed presentations reflected her deep understanding and commitment to the field. Despite often underrating her own skills, Debbie's talent was clear to those who worked with her. This was evident in her numerous invitations to speak at conferences, her thorough understanding of Clwyd Pension Fund’s investments, and her expert accounting knowledge that contributes to our quarterly management accounts for the Board. As the industry bid farewell to Debbie, at Pensions for Purpose, we acknowledge her achievements and her impact on Clwyd Pension Fund and the broader pension community. Her legacy of dedication and leadership will continue to influence us all, and we are delighted she has decided to remain on our Board. #LGPS #ImpactInvestment #PensionsforPurpose Flintshire County Council

We are grateful to everyone who joined Tuesday's all-member event, where we delved into the critical issue of systemic risks facing pension schemes. Our panellists, Nick Spencer of Gordian Advice, Sanjay Joshi of Hymans Robertson, Robert Gardner of Rebalance Earth and Sean Gilbert of The Global Impact Investing Network, shared insights on addressing climate change and biodiversity loss. The discussion highlighted the urgent need for pension schemes to incorporate systemic risk management into their strategies, and the importance of impact investment, policy advocacy and stewardship in safeguarding long-term returns and achieving sustainable economies.
