This week the World Meteorological Organization reported, according to Copernicus ECMWF, that June was the hottest on record, and the global temperature has been 1.5°C above the pre-industrial era for the 13th month in a row. The #IPCC delegation, led by Chair Jim Skea, met with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen this morning in Vienna. They discussed the plans for the IPCC´s seventh assessment cycle, tipping points, the role of the IPCC and communications & outreach efforts in meeting the Paris Agreement goals.

On the margins of the IPCC Expert Meeting on Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) hosted by the Austrian Ministry of Finance in Vienna, IPCC Chair Jim Skea met today with Magnus Brunner, the Austrian Minister of Finance. They discussed the role of CDR and CCS technologies in carbon neutrality and the financial implications of their use.

The theme of this year's #DesertificationAndDroughtDay is: “United for Land: Our Legacy. Our Future.” #IPCC's #ClimateChange & Land report, released in 2019 says that ‘land degradation is a serious and widespread problem, yet key uncertainties remain concerning its extent, severity, and linkages to climate change. Land degradation can be avoided, reduced or reversed by implementing sustainable land management, restoration and rehabilitation practices that simultaneously provide many co-benefits, including adaptation to and mitigation of climate change.
