1,2,3 snap! 📸 🐨 We are thrilled to announce that QCIF is partnering with the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) Planet Research Data Commons to scale up the Wildlife Observatory of Australia (WildObs). Leveraging QCIF’s expertise in Machine Learning and research infrastructure, the project will develop a purpose-built capacity for storing, sharing, and analysing imagery collected using wildlife camera traps. The WildObs initiative is part of the ARDC Planet RDC National Machine Observation Processing Infrastructure. The project’s research lead is Dr. Matthew Luskin, an ARC Senior Research Fellow and academic at The University of Queensland, in partnership with TERN Australia and QCIF. Adjunct Professor Sach Jayasinghe, QCIF’s CEO and project lead, said, “This collaboration is aligned with QCIF’s mission of accelerating research excellence and societal impact under our Sustainable Futures portfolio, which focuses on developing cutting-edge digital research infrastructure capabilities in conservation, climate, and biodiversity.” Key collaborators include TERN Australia, Atlas of Living Australia, Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, Department of Environment, Science and Innovation, The University of Queensland, University of Tasmania, Bush Heritage Australia, University of Sydney, Australian Museum, QUT (Queensland University of Technology), Museums Victoria, WWF-Australia, EcoCommons Australia, Biosecurity Commons Australia and others. Found at BackTrack’s Cubba Cubbah property on Anaiwan Country in NSW: the Diamond Firetail, the Scarlet Robin, the endangered Northern Blue Box Gum and more! “The Country is really important, which is why we started with the survey. We didn’t want to touch anything until we knew what we were dealing with,” says BackTrack Youth Works Founder Bernie Shakeshaft. The results were excellent from our recent ecological survey at Cubba Cubbah and will help inform future land management.
