GRI is very pleased to announce our call for GRI Buenos Aires, our first program as part of GRI Connections - a new rubric through which we will bring scholars together in intentional groupings to work on their own research in a collaborative, lightly structured, and supportive environment. The goal is to offer faculty an opportunity to engage deeply with NYU’s rich global resources and world-class research community, in order to amplify what is possible locally in New York.

We are inviting applications from full-time faculty who would like to conduct research in Buenos Aires, while participating in a vibrant intellectual community through weekly encounters. During this 6-week pilot program, we invite participants to work on their current research projects, while exploring how their work may interplay with that of their fellow participants, and to engage with local researchers.

Program Components

Participants will be offered:

  •  A work space at NYU Buenos Aires
  • Round-trip flights to Buenos Aires for each participant (within University and program travel guidelines)
  • Housing in short-term apartments
  • A per diem of $50 per day 
  • Optional social activities may be included. 

Eligibility

The program is open to all full-time faculty, including continuing contract faculty. Applicants must be working on a project that will be enhanced by a six-week research trip to Buenos Aires, structured as described above. Priority will be given to those that can demonstrate relevance to the locality, although it’s important to note that projects need not focus on Latin America.

Applicants must be available to participate in the entirety of the program, per the dates listed above, arriving in time for the start date and staying through to the end, and plan on participating in weekly gatherings. Participants may not leave for portions of the six-week period. Due to the short time span and the nature of the program, there will be no exceptions.

Program Content

Shortly after arriving, participants will connect in an opening gathering, to get to know each other and explore potential points of contact. Scholars will focus on their own work, but will participate in a total of four weekly sessions-over the span of the program-intended to contribute to their productivity and that of the rest of the group. During these sessions, they will meet with different local scholars working in relevant fields and explore possible research networks, with an eye towards creating new pathways in important areas of academia. A site-based facilitator will be present to support and help streamline the experience of participants. As it comes to a close, the program will culminate in a roundtable event to share reflections on individual research experiences in Buenos Aires, which will include local scholars and NYU community members, to be recorded and transcribed. 

We are inviting applications from all schools, in all fields, but we are particularly interested in projects engaging with topics that are relevant to the location itself. The goal is to explore how current events and a sense of place can be woven into a research experience, and to create meaningful and sustainable academic pathways.
