What You Need to Know

If you are certain that NYU is the right school for you, you may want to consider applying through early decision.

How does early decision work at NYU?

If you apply for and are admitted through the early decision admission process, you are expected to enroll at NYU. In addition, you are expected to withdraw applications from other schools, and not submit any new applications after receiving an offer of admission.

While we expect early decision applicants to honor their early decision commitment, we recognize that there may be extenuating circumstances. 

Exceptions are granted when an applicant is not admitted to their first choice NYU school, program, or campus, or when a students’ awarded financial aid package does not meet enough of the financial need for that student to be able to afford to attend.

Any students who require greater flexibility or an exception should contact the admissions office to discuss their options and/or to be released from their early decision commitment.

Can I apply for regular decision if I don’t get in with early decision?

Unfortunately, you cannot.

Do I have to do anything special when I apply?

There’s nothing you need to do differently. The instructions and required materials are the same.

What about financial aid?

Applying for financial aid and the way NYU determines aid are also the same for early decision.

Please keep in mind that you won’t be able to compare financial aid packages from other schools if you apply early decision. Do not feel pressure to apply early decision if finances are a concern.

When do I need to apply?

*The cut-off time for applications is 11:59 p.m EST in your local time zone.

Please note: For programs that require an audition or portfolio we strongly recommend you submit your Common Application one month in advance to ensure ample time to prepare your audition or portfolio.
