Brilliant place. Lively atmosphere. traditional tapas and house cava. Cava costs 10 euros a bottle. We were a party of 4 and tried many dishes. Pork with padron perrers amazingly tender. Chickpeas fried with chorizo fabulous (and i am not even keen on chickpeas) Everything we had was great. You need to que to get into this restaurant so get there early. Very popular and great value for money. One of the best meals we ad in Barcelona

If you wanna avoid the crowd you should go there by 12 pm just when they are opening. If you are late for 15-20 minutes the whole place will be full and you will have to wait. Once you sit down, be brave and order the most unusual thing and it will probably be perfect. We ordered olives stuffed w/ real anchovies, mussels in escabetx sauce and baby squid with sta. pau beans. The squid dish was one of the best dishes I've ever eaten in Barcelona. It was extraordinary. If you love seafood with a balance of salt, olive oil and carbs, you must try it.

This place is small and can be heaving with people spilling out on to the street. This is especially true when they offer discounted “champagne” which is of course Cava at €1 or €2 a go. I have not been able to get close enough to sample the Tapas but I am sure they are good. The staff are really friendly and they need to be patient given the throng of people they need to deal with. The place is great craic and not so much a tapas bar and more reminiscent of a Dublin pub after a rugby game. A lot of fun but if you don’t like crowds probably not for you

This place was right opposite a great little tapas bar we love. Since we see massive crowds always at this tapas bar we decided to try it. The bar staff are full on pushy and the crowd is mostly young uni types from our observations. After waiting some time for service we were handed two of everything we ordered one of and the bill reflected that. Our experience was short lived and we came away unimpressed.

Honestly the most phenomenal meal out I’ve ever had. Queue outside from 18:30 to get a table straight away (opens at 19:00) and order a bottle of their cava (it’s great). The service is friendly and fast, and the atmosphere is amazing. The padrón peppers with grilled pork, calamari, chorizo tortilla, Catalan pasta and chocolate truffles with salt (dessert) are amazing. Honestly some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. Calamari is a MUST (almost creamed myself when I ate it)… amazing value for the quality you get. You can tell how much care they put into their food. Would give 1000/10 if I could. Thank you!

I think the title of the review tells it all! We visited twice through our trip in Barcelona. The bar itself is small and very chaotic, however given the amount of people that queue to get in tells you how good the food is. We stood outside the front with a small barrel as a table, however we were well looked after by Laura who was absolutely amazing. She recommended so many excellent dishes and none disappointed. The portions are a good size for Tapas and really good value too. Unfortunately you can't book so arrive well before the opening time of 7pm to ensure you get a spot. If there is only place you chose for Tapas in Barcelona then do visit here it is incredible.

I love cava and tapas, so this is my happy place. Have now visited twice with family and friends, once we queued half an hour early and managed to get a table, the second time we ate standing at the bar. They make their own cava which is delicious and comes in Kilner bottles. The food is delightful: my son was still thinking about the pork dish several days later! The pasta dish with meat and cheese is insanely moreish. The fresh anchovies are banging. I could list every dish with an admiring adjective but you get the picture. We just asked the lovely people serving to bring us their recommendations, and they did. We were blessed to be visiting in a group of five so we ate most things on the menu, including the custard dessert to finish. We ate and drank far more than was necessary (but frankly it would have been rude to have eaten less) and it came to £172 in sterling on my bill for the five of us. I can't wait to return.

You could feel the warm atmosphere already on the street outside the restaurant. Serving sparkling wine special brand. It is a small place so it feels that you almost are invited to a family dinner. The service and genuine positive atmosphere is great. We tried 8 tapas and all were “top notch”. This is a place you should not miss when you are in Barcelona.

Came here for Tapas as this place was hyped up to me like Victor Wembanyama and it did not disappoint. I came right at opening, thinking it was a savvy vet move. It was not. Apparently the vet move is to get here at least 30 min before opening to get a table. The girl seating people was so talented, calming angry customers with a diffusing smile and doing her best to get everyone in that she could. She was lowkey like cool cute I was crushing a little bit ngl hehehe. Since I was only 1 person, I waited about 10 minutes and was given a standing spot at the bar. It was kind of cool, something so different than I'm used to but I embraced it and enjoyed it. I even met this cool couple at the bar, shoutout to Priyanka and Andrea. The Asian guy behind the bar was so engaging and friendly but was talking me into absolutely everything. Fairplay to him. I was initially just going to get a light meal, but ended up getting talked into the following: Prosciutto w/ bread, Octopus, Calamari, Catalan Sausage w/ beans, Beef Fillet w/Cadron peppers, a dessert, and 4 glasses of red wine. Everything was fantastic, but the beef fillet with peppers was the true standout. El Xampanyet is an absolute MUST when in Barcelona!! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Such a unique place! Felt very authentic Spanish- crowded with people (standing room only), and fabulous sparkling wine + tapas. The amount of food + drink we had for 20 euros is incredible. Would definitely recommend. Also, a great stop for “drinks and apps” before a nicer dinner. We will be back!

Wow wow wow, we got some Cava and tapas that the waitress recommended to share between 4. Everything was super tasty, you can tell they use high quality ingredients. We tried about 8 different dishes from the menu and everything was super. Highly recommend!

Called in at lunchtime, had to wait 20 mins for a table, mostly tourists in the bar. My smoked cod was superb as was the sausage with polenta. All the taps on the bar looked very tasty. Tiny place, but great atmosphere would definitely recommend if you are prepared to queue for a table.

We walked past this very popular bar and thought it looked our kind of ‘Proper Catalan Experience’ but be warned it gets busy, but the staff are brilliant at getting people seated or stood at the bar, (don’t expect lots of room, and you will probably have to wait for a seat). They make their own Cava which is delicious, and the food options are a wonder of things we recognised and some we didn’t. We visited twice during our visit to Barcelona, both times at lunch, and could happily have gone every day. The staff never stop and have a cheery smile while squeezing past the tables and people. We thought the prices were reasonable and enjoyed the ringing of a bell everytime they received a tip. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

La Xampanyet has been a favourite over fifteen and more years of coming to Barcelona. We don’t mind places which are jam packed and sometimes we can brace ourselves for reasonably authentic tapas bars that have tourist driven higher prices for their food and booze but this time the queue here was just so long and off putting that we abandoned the effort and wandered westwards where we found a very lively and cheap place in Poble Sec. But if you ever find yourself outside Xampanyet when there is a short queue, don’t hesitate to come in. Or remains a bucket list must do.

The services was great. It’s a fast-paced busy restaurant but our waitress was attentive and excited about the food. She answered our questions and made a few recommendations which were helpful. The food, though, was the best tapas we’ve every had. The omelets, fried anchovies, etc etc. were fresh and delicious. Add a few cold beers and we ate more than we should have. We arrived around 1:00pm and waited about 10 minutes for a table. However, when we left there was a crowd outside. The experience was great and we would happily eat there again.

El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighborhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
