Decent place to stay if on a budget and want to go Hawaii!

Reviewed Feb 23, 2024via mobile
Pros:
- room and bathroom were cleaned daily
-luckily not every night in the room was fully booked or in the private room so didnt have to worry about not being able to get in the bathroom.
- staff friendly
-wifi
-Location
-cheapest option for us in Waikiki

Cons:
-only one bathroom in the room- as stated above, it was lucky that it wasnt fully booked out each night or I wouldve been worried/anxious all the time about not being able to access the bathroom.
- there was a guy in our room who appeared to live there (?) he checked out one night whilst someone else had his bed and left a whole mess by the side of the bed then came back the night later. There were letters around his bed named ‘Police evidence’ (didnt read them obviously) which made us feel uneasy especially as he seemed to lie in bed everyday until the evenings. He was harmless in the end but at first me and my sister had wished we stayed in a female only dorm.
- it was SO COLD!! They only give you a bed sheet so I had to wear like 3 layers on top and 2 pairs of socks.

Very Bad experience to be 100% honest. Every day I would wake up there and stop myself from asking for my money back due to the black mold on the bathroom walls and growing within the shower cracks. Bathing in water dripping from the ceiling from humidity mixed in with golden brown things and black mold. the smell was coming from the bathroom, making me gag throughout the night and having to get up and close the bathroom door to lock the smell in . Coincidentally, and thankfully, on my last night there a 50-year-old male tried to crawl in bed with me at 6 AM and asked me my name multiple times in a row there was a physical confrontation and I was asked to leave within five minutes which is fine because it was already my last day. Just look at these pictures go sleep on the beach you’ll have a better time. I literally left multiple times during my stay there that I paid for and slept on the beach because of how gross it was and my eagerness to not even be there. I showed these photos to management and they explained to me that I am staying in a hostel and that’s what I need to expect. I’m not even going to post the photo that they have online of this exact bathroom because I don’t want you to think that it’s not dirty and inhumane and false advertising. I watched a female four nights out of the time that I was there come into the bathroom, close the door behind her and stay in there for 30 minutes and the bathroom would be 0% cleaned. Also their lockers are rigged. Make sure you try to open your locker with the lock on it and see if your locker just pops open you need a very thick lock for your locker to actually close. I found out with multiple people one night that none of our lockers were actually closed because our locks were not being enough. I spend over $20 at the laundromat because their laundry facilities were not even working like I said every day it was something new or something worse where I had to suck myself into staying there so I had somewhere to store my things. View photos room 400 has been like this at least a month. Much more probably.

Also, to whom it may concern, a.k.a. management don’t feel any need to reply to this.

Avoid. Filthy. Photos do not accurately show how rundown the place is. Was not given the level that was booked although I had called a couple of times to confirm. Does the health department ever inspect?

A friend found this hidden gem for us. At 1st glance you'd think oh no lol.
We stayed in a 8 bed all female dorm with air conditioning that worked and fans. There were 5 of us for 5 nights and cost us $190usd each. We were all 50+ yrs old. We were lucky enough not to have anyone else join us.
Brooke was great at check in, very patient as we were checked in 1 at a time. You're given clean sheets/pillowcase and towel.
We got to our room and unfortunately discovered there was rubbish underneath the beds, weren't very impressed with that and one of our friends mentioned this and whilst we were out having lunch Dan was in cleaning the whole room, very impressed. We also got an apology from the manager explaining there was a miscommunication of cleaning the room.
The room had 8 individual lockers for valuables only but you have to buy a padlock for them. Our dorm had mini fridge, microwave, elements plus ensuite with shower in a bath and toilet. Unfortunately the toilet didn't always flush straight away but we sussed it out.
The security was great, opened the door with GOKI app on phone.
Parking is terrible though we had to park sometimes up to 1km for free parking or you can park in the Honolulu Zoo across the road for $1.50 per hour for maximum 4hrs.
One of the best parts about the location is a 5min walk to the BEACH. Hostel provides tubes, chairs to take down which we used a few times, we saw sunrises and sunsets just beautiful. 2nd best thing is the amazing young staff, nothing a bother whatsoever so great to see.
So overall would us over 50/60yr olds stay here again? 💯 You have to think smarter, and from NZ our dollar was 56c in USD. We made it work, would highly recommend 👌 and spent our accommodation savings at ROSS stores 😁

Room tip: Too expensive to eat out all the time buy cereals and lunch and dinner stuff and keep in fridge way cheaper

Great location, awesome staff. I had a cancelled flight and a left behind item and the staff were fantastic with helping. Decent wifi. No ac in the dorm but many windows that open which really cools it down but can mean some noise. Plenty of space in the room. No individual plugs for each bunk, but plenty of plugs around. Great little shelves attached to each bed.

At first glance this place could appear inappropriate for mature people cause semiprivate rooms are located in the same place of the dorms but...if you are looking for a spartan place where sleeping only, this could perfect. The hostel is well runned, with its rules and its hours, none will disturbs your sleeping. So I think that for a few days could be a smart choice considering the high prices of Waikiki.

Room tip: Waikiki is expensive
