A friend found this hidden gem for us. At 1st glance you'd think oh no lol.
We stayed in a 8 bed all female dorm with air conditioning that worked and fans. There were 5 of us for 5 nights and cost us $190usd each. We were all 50+ yrs old. We were lucky enough not to have anyone else join us.
Brooke was great at check in, very patient as we were checked in 1 at a time. You're given clean sheets/pillowcase and towel.
We got to our room and unfortunately discovered there was rubbish underneath the beds, weren't very impressed with that and one of our friends mentioned this and whilst we were out having lunch Dan was in cleaning the whole room, very impressed. We also got an apology from the manager explaining there was a miscommunication of cleaning the room.
The room had 8 individual lockers for valuables only but you have to buy a padlock for them. Our dorm had mini fridge, microwave, elements plus ensuite with shower in a bath and toilet. Unfortunately the toilet didn't always flush straight away but we sussed it out.
The security was great, opened the door with GOKI app on phone.
Parking is terrible though we had to park sometimes up to 1km for free parking or you can park in the Honolulu Zoo across the road for $1.50 per hour for maximum 4hrs.
One of the best parts about the location is a 5min walk to the BEACH. Hostel provides tubes, chairs to take down which we used a few times, we saw sunrises and sunsets just beautiful. 2nd best thing is the amazing young staff, nothing a bother whatsoever so great to see.
So overall would us over 50/60yr olds stay here again? 💯 You have to think smarter, and from NZ our dollar was 56c in USD. We made it work, would highly recommend 👌 and spent our accommodation savings at ROSS stores 😁

At first glance this place could appear inappropriate for mature people cause semiprivate rooms are located in the same place of the dorms but...if you are looking for a spartan place where sleeping only, this could perfect. The hostel is well runned, with its rules and its hours, none will disturbs your sleeping. So I think that for a few days could be a smart choice considering the high prices of Waikiki.

we had booked in for 5 nights but were so glad we had only paid for 3. no ceiling fans, just one on the floor, so if you were unlucky, like myself to score the top bunk it was hot bloody hot, so lucky it was still autumn. Kitchen, common area and laundry were all in one and it was shambles. I have given it 2 stars and not only one because, the activities that they provided during the day were actually really good for the cheap price they charged and we meet some pretty awesome travellers while there.

I have stayed in this hostel a couple of times during the months of February March and April. Everytime I came back I was received in open arms, and all my requests was kindly answered by the staff.
Very spacious and comfortable, lots of free stuff, located super close to the beach and the park - best location in Waikiki in my opinion
Cleaning everyday and even changes my towel and sheets whenever I asked.
I highly appreciate the mangers and staff’s willingness to help at any time !!
Highly and warmly recommended :)

Arriving and location:
We arrived to the hostel during midnight and it was pretty easy to find it. Location is very good, around 100m off Waikiki beach. Conveniently located.

Staff:
Upon arrival I made sure that payment was ok and that we don't need to worry about it. There was nothing particularly interesting about this conversation except the fact that this man called me during converstion as his "honey" in front of my wife. I don't care what people's romantic preferences are but there is a line on who can call me "honey". That situation was pretty uncomfortable.

On last day we had to figure out our leaving the hostel to our next location andwe wanted to ask advice from another employee but she was so drunk that it seemed too hard to stand with two legs.

Overall: I would recommend this only for its good location, but not worth spending more than few days there. Most of the staff are quite friendly but it was weird seeing the receptionist changing so often so we couldn't tell whos "hanging out" at the premises and who's on duty. This hostel is for adults only. It was weird seeing customers and employees bringing vodka and drinking e.g jack daniels on pure daylight and getting wasted on common areas of the hostel. There seemed to be no rules on alcohol consumption or whatsoever. I've been to hostels before so I know what community living usually looks like but this was quite an "experience".

Great location, awesome staff. I had a cancelled flight and a left behind item and the staff were fantastic with helping. Decent wifi. No ac in the dorm but many windows that open which really cools it down but can mean some noise. Plenty of space in the room. No individual plugs for each bunk, but plenty of plugs around. Great little shelves attached to each bed.

I’ve stayed at the Polynesian hostel beach club 3 times. It feels like home, excellent knowledge staff, close to the beach, I will always continue to stay there every time i go to Hawaii. I’ve tried other hostels on the island and they never compare to how awesome the hostel is, and the Pancakes are excellent!

Avoid. Filthy. Photos do not accurately show how rundown the place is. Was not given the level that was booked although I had called a couple of times to confirm. Does the health department ever inspect?
