I stayed almost a week at the Malia. From first contact at the front desk with the warm hospitality I could instantly tell the level of customer service at the hotel. Although I can’t remember names, all the staff were helpful no matter how small the enquiry.
I had one of the partial ocean view rooms on the 16th floor. The view is really great looking over to the ocean and I spent a few nights on the small balcony just watching everything go by. Yes, I’d say the room/bathroom is of an old style and could really do with some updating. Some lamps and plug sockets didn’t work but there was enough to get by. The bed was very comfortable. Daily housekeeping was good standard and coffee, toiletries, towels were refreshed as needed. Location was good, around 6-7 mins walk to Waikiki beach, lots of restaurants, ABC convenience stores nearby. Bus stop to airport literally across the road. The hotel does add on a $25 resort fee per room per night which I wasn’t aware of when booking (with an OTA) which was a surprise at check-in, however overall in comparison to other hotels rates nearby, for what I paid I believe I had great value.

My sister and I decided to celebrate my birthday week
In Hawaii. Waikiki Malia was promoted as a clean, safe hotel with a great location and it absolutely was. The rooms are a bit dated and the carpet and wallpaper could use some updating but all that can be ignored because of the wonderful people and the amazing location. People first.... my sister had called ahead and asked if they could order a cake for my birthday and they did an amazing job. Within 15 minutes of checking in they delivered the cake to our room along with a present from
the hotel. Everyone we met from the moment of checking in to our housekeepers, talking about you Mayra 😀 and Henry from maintenance who helped with a plumbing issue. All the managers and front desk folks that we met were so considerate at each encounter as we left or returned to our room. I will agree with prior reviews about the parking garage, the slim parking spaces and ramps are a fun challenge but of course with space at a premium I can see why. Now location... this hotel
Is close to the best shopping. Restaurants and even Waikiki beach. Everything from Ross to Channel were a 3 minute walk. The Royal Hawaiian shopping center has something for everyone and it was very close. Note... there is a breezeway right next to Cheesecake Factory that leads right to the beach.
If you are looking for a clean hotel and a great price I think you will enjoy the Waikiki Malia.

Me and my wife stayed at the Waikiki Malia by Outrigger. We have been on Oahu a few times before and came to the conclusion that we like to stay in a hotel that is near everything; but not in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. After doing my research, we found that Waikiki Malia by Outrigger fit our needs perfectly.
When we arrived, check in was quick, efficient and received friendly customer service. Throughout our stay, anytime we had a question, we always received nice, friendly responses from everyone at the hotel. Our room was nice and clean, but it had a moldy smell…. Unfortunately, not unusual for hotel rooms in the tropics, I guess it’s all that humidity and A/C going on all day. I liked our room, so we just decided to make a quick trip to the nearby ABC store and bought a can of air freshener. During our stay, we blasted the room with the air freshener and everything was fine. The hotel shows its age with the bathroom, couch and kitchenette. But not a big deal, it was clean and I wasn’t there to sit on the couch or cook all day. When you do watch TV, the TV is able to “cast” from your personal device. Connect your phone to the TV via Wi-Fi and you can watch anything on TV. The bed was awesome! Forgot to pull up the covers to see what kind of mattress it was so we can get one at home. It was super comfortable! Firm, but not too firm.
I chose this hotel for its LOCATION. The location of the hotel was awesome! It was literally 5 minutes from everything! Restaurants, International Market, Royal Hawaiian mall and if you’re adventurous enough to use the bus system, there is a bus stop 2 minutes away from the front lobby. Using the 42, 20 and 13; we were able to get to the Aloha Stadium Flea Market, Ala Moana Mall (walking distance, but it was getting dark), Leonard’s Bakery and Zippy’s! It $2.75 one way, per person. Not a bad deal; cheaper than renting a car or using Uber all the time.
The hotel has a very small pool, hot tub and a well-equipped gym. The pool and hot tub were indoors; Waikiki beach is only a few minutes’ walk away, skip the pool and hit the beach. The gym is located on the 5th floor in the parking garage. They limit the capacity, but it was never an issue for me. Not a lot of people workout while on vacation, except me it seems. Had machines, dumbbells, cardio machines; everything you need to get the heart pumping to burn some calories. Perfect!
All in all, we had a great stay at the Waikiki Malia. Thanks for a great stay while on the islands!

The staff is wonderful, friendly accommodating and hard-working. The location is so fun. You can walk to the beach or places to eat and it’s awesome waking up and looking out over a bustling island city.

My feedback is more for the parent company—outrigger, because I believe that the issues with this hotel need to be addressed by them. This hotel is badly neglected. We had a one bedroom kitchenette in the Luana tower and it was hard to get comfortable because everything in the room appears as if it’s been there since the 70’s. I don’t mind the oldschool beachy style of the rooms but the lamps, wallpaper, drapes and furniture actually look and feel like they’ve been there for decades. Very old and in poor condition. Housekeeping was great about tidying but there are some things the owners need to address—like throwing out old, grimy upholstered chairs and benches, putting fitted sheets on the beds and a vanity in the bathroom. Instead of a regular fitted and flat sheet our beds had a bare mattress with a blanket folded on top of it for extra cushioning and a flat sheet tucked in on top of that, followed by another flat sheet and the flowered bedspreads. They were great about bringing extra pillows and blankets as needed but I thought the lack of fitted sheets and the extra blanket between the mattress and sheet was really odd.

There was nothing but a tiny glass shelf directly above the toilet in the bathroom so if your toiletries don’t fit on the little shelf you must place them on the back of the toilet. Either way you risk dropping your belongings in the toilet. The water pressure was great but bathroom fixtures are rusty, the grout is black, there was what appeared to be a blood stain on one of the flower printed bed covers and there were stains (from food?) all over the nasty yellow wall paper. The green carpet is separating from the baseboards and in the space under the counter where the mini fridge was there was a huge gap next to the fridge where the top layer of flooring was missing leaving whatever is under the floor exposed. Like others said there are hardly any outlets and you have to reach behind old furniture to access them. The lamps are so old and dusty-looking that I didn’t want to touch them to turn them on. It is well past time for outrigger to throw out the old, tired, wooden and upholstered furniture. Also, we paid resort and hotel fees upfront so no surprises there but I didn’t like that there was a random unauthorized $50 hold that was placed (and eventually released) on my account the day we checked out.

TL;DR
Nice staff and fantastic location but I would not recommend this hotel and I would not stay here again unless they replaced the flooring, wallpaper, drapes and furniture at minimum.

Excellent location of the hotel.

Rooms were ok, but could've  been nicer. However,  we didn't spend a lot of time in the rooms, we were out every morning.

Beds were uncomfortable,  outdated furniture and no tub. Only shower

Also, the maids don't wash or wipe the kitchen,  coffee carafe, dishes or microwave (I cleaned it myself).  So....it wasn't as clean as I would've liked. Look at pics. Dust n food particles. Grimy finger prints on the kettle.

Maids were annoying and constantly knocking on the door.

I'll probably stay elsewhere if I go back.

So I booked this hotel using a travelzoo voucher, and got a great deal! This was my first time in Hawaii and I'm so glad we booked this hotel. The hotel is in the middle of all the action, there is tons of shopping and restaurants within walking distance. The beaches are public and only about a 5 min walk. We stayed in the Luana building, and while it is a bit dated, we had everything we needed. 1 bedroom suite with living room that contained 2 twins beds and TV, small wet bar with fridge and microwave, separate bedroom with a queen bed ( super comfy) and a balcony. The room is spacious enough for a family of 4 ( 2 adults and 2 kids). If you are a budget traveler, this hotel can be a great and affordable way to take your whole family to Hawaii without breaking the bank. There is a city bus that you can take to the local mall or other locations, $3 must have exact change. The hotel also provides beach towels, I would reccommend buying cheap beach chairs at one of the neighboring stores as beach chair rentals were a whopping $75 per day. In my opinion that is kinda ridiculous, you can buy a chair for ten bucks and just give it away at the end of the trip or throw them out, way cheaper than spending $75 per day. Another tip would be to book excursions ahead of time, things seem to sell out pretty quickly. The hotel has a bar and Ihop attached but there are so many restaurants nearby, you can try so many different places. There is a small pool and jacuzzi, has to be reserved but that was never an issue. The staff is wonderful, every single person we interacted with was so sweet and helpful. I gave it 5 stars because it met all of my needs, and was an awesome value. if you are looking for something a bit more lux upgrade to a different building, their rooms are updated.

Excellent stay! We booked this hotel through Costco travel. When we arrived, we were quickly checked in and informed of all the nice amenities of the hotel.

The hotel has a cute small pool with a hot tub, and a gym. Everything was available with some covid protocols which I greatly appreciated. We stayed for 6 nights and got a great price, it’s only a couple blocks from the beach.

This was for my anniversary with my love. Upon entering the room, we were greeted by Susanna, a super friendly maid! She had laid out some beautiful towel folded swans kissing each other on the bed with Rose pedals scattered on the sheets and also a box of Hawaiian chocolates that were so good, along with a greeting letter.

The room was very clean and shower water was real hot. Susanna really made this hotel experience for us the best, she seemed to always be around asking if we needed any help with anything at all. My girl got super bad sunburn a few days into our stay and she guided me to the ice area so I could fill up some bags and help her. Sheets, towels, soaps, coffee, were always renewed. They offer the option to leave your towels hung up if you don’t want them replaced to save water, we chose that for the planet!

Another thing I really appreciated was the fact that last minute we had realized we booked a tour during the time we needed to check out and were really concerned we would have to drag our luggage around, but the front desk lets you store all your own belongings safely in a storage room they have on site. They allowed us to extend our checkout time for a very affordable hourly price. They also have another shower, just in case you want to go hit the beach and come back to clean up before your flight.

Definitely worth a stay! Thank you again Susanna, this employee deserves a RAISE! We had to leave her a tip!

We had a large, comfortable room with king size bed, a very quiet room on the 14th floor, although it overlooked Kuhio Avenue. The staff were all very friendly & helpful and those on the front desk gave us a lot of useful advice. We were able to make use of the large swimming pool at Ohana Waikiki East, less than 5 minutes walk, the Malia only having an indoor lap pool. The hotel is located in a very pleasant area & we felt very safe when walking out to restaurants & bars at night.

The entire staff was so kind and helpful, even before arriving. I’d called about an offer to upgrade for a fee, and our room was switched from a Waikiki view to an ocean view on the top floor with a great view of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Manny, in particular, was just great. The bed was very comfortable, and we liked our room tremendously. We stayed for six nights, it was quiet, and hotel is in a great location, near to Duke’s Market and their wonderful restaurant Basalt, also near Mahina and Sun’s, where we enjoyed breakfast on occasion, and we could walk everywhere. We appreciated the air conditioning too, as the 80 degree highs tended to take something out of us. We had a wonderful time there, and the housekeeping department is excellent. Mahalo Waikiki Malia.

I stayed at this hotel with a friend, as we were looking for something well located but still cheap (which is hard to find in waikiki). The hotel was ok. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were of a decent size (we had 1.5 beds and a small balcony facing the street). On the other hand they can't call this bath tub a pool cause it is really not one!! But since the ocean is pretty close by, we didn't really need it. I also get that the hotel is old and would probably need a bit of renovations, but it could be cleaner I have to admit... but beds were clean and comfortable, which is what is important in the end! But the hotel employees were what we loved the most about that place. They were always there help us and answer all of our questions. I would recommand the Ohana waikiki Malia hotel.

We took a cab however there are private shuttles at the airport but usually takes ages to get to your hotel. Parking is generally expensive round Waikiki but I cannot say if the hotel has as we were only there on a short stay.
